  1. One of my first cars was a 95 standard Altima that was passed around the siblings. I've never had more fun driving a car. It changed gears like a dream and had great pickup. I'm definitely on Team Refresh if only for sentimental value.
  2. Thanks for the feedback. I went to a walk-in facility and the processor said my passport is fine. It looks 95% normal and I read online that it's still a legally valid passport even if the chip in it was damaged. I hope he's right and I'm not going to stress it. I have an unrelated domestic flight on Thursday and might try to see if I can get a customs person at the airport to swipe it to see if there's any issue with it.
  3. Bump. Similar. I accidentally washed my passport and have a trip to Ireland end of October (10 weeks). I don't know if it's damaged enough to need replacing. But I don't want to show up for my international flight and get rejected. I have an appointment tomorrow at a post office (official passport office). I'm going to pay for expedited plus pay for 2-day shipping. I should be fine, right? Maybe I get lucky and the post office person says my washed passport is fine. It doesn't seem particularly damaged. FAFO.
  4. I read last night it was downed power lines caused by high winds. But that may be outdated info.

  7. Glad it worked out for him. Sounds like the professor is a fucking idiot. It didn't occur to him that he may have the wrong email address? If I don't get an expected response I always double check I had the correct email address. Rage.
  8. csb/Did my first half marathon this morning (SLC, a big Mormon holiday hence the Monday race). 13.1 miles averaging 8:30 a mile. I hurt.
  9. San Antone taco joint this morning. Dude looked at his parking job, appeared satisfied, and proceeded into the restaurant. Bravo good sir!
  10. We played smear the queer when I was a kid too. I completely forgot about that. I feel like faggot was the more common slur when I was growing up and queer was just a strange word that wasn't used much in any context. At least not among my peers.
  11. Totally. I'm a relatively young homo and love the word and use it freely. I honestly didn't know it had been a slur in the past.
  12. Outdoor miles. 3.5 weeks ago.
  13. Not sure where to put this so I'll ask here. I recently moved to Salt Lake City and saw this morning in the news that there's a marathon going on Saturday. I regularly run about 7 miles a day in addition to light weights and walking my dog a few miles a day. So I'm in pretty good cardio shape. I'm intrigued by the route which is a long gradual descent down a mountain. I was thinking I might sign up for the 13.1 mile half marathon race to try something new. Being as it's this Saturday, I've done no training for it. But I wonder, considering how much I run, if that's really necessary or if I'm being naive. For as much as I run, I've never actually gone further than 8 miles. Dumb idea?
  14. I rarely get offended by anything. But I feel protective of those in society who are vulnerable. When I hear someone use cruel language that has historically been used to oppress and demean a vulnerable group, I'm not going to get in their face (assuming they're not actually using it towards someone in that group directly), but I sure as hell will think that person is a piece of shit and think much less of their character. I'm far from perfect and I think people can change and improve, so I try not to shame others or even judge them too harshly in my mind. But I think it's fair and healthy to be offended by certain language and behavior if its motive is to be cruel.
  15. No criticism taken. On the contrary, it's appreciated. I am very much an amateur builder and always trying to learn more. For the plumbing venting, I did an interior Oatey Sure Vent. I had heard the issue you mention about fresh air when spray foaming the envelope, but I don't really have an answer. I suppose I was counting on the occasional opening of the doors and windows. But that's a fair point. I'll have to think on how to address that to ensure good air quality. The TH's are only going to have a countertop double induction top and maybe a countertop multi-mode air fryer for simple meals. They're not intended for elaborate cooking, and frankly, my family doesn't do much of that anyways. So we'll probably just open the windows over the kitchenette if we're not just eating out. Probably not ideal, but I'm trying to keep things simple for now while we see what works and what could use upgrading.
  16. What wood are you using for the trim? Oak?
  17. Well done! It's much harder than people think. The trim woodwork looks great as well.
  18. Thanks. We installed a tankless water heater initially but then realized that they draw a heavy amount of amperage versus a conventional small tank water heater. So we just built a little enclosure for a small tank water heater sitting on the front arms of the trailer. We installed a new water well and a septic system, more for a future conventional home we plan to eventually build but we have the tiny house hooked up to it.
  19. I was thinking about doing a corrugated metal skin siding with a kind of modern profile on one of our tiny houses. But I was worried my handyman wouldn't know how to work with it as he's primarily familiar with wood sidings. Maybe if we do a third one.
  20. It's just for storage. Our handyman was hauling his tools to the site every day and we were locking building materials inside the tiny house or leaving them outside exposed to weather and potential theft. So we bought the container to store everything. We've needed one for the property for a long time. It was a single-use container (i.e., only used on a single trip from China or wherever) so it's in great condition and only cost a few grand delivered to the property. It's much more secure and weather safe than a wooden shed. To answer your other question, we are building a second tiny house which is why one of the photos shows a second trailer with just the OSB subfloor and bottom wall plates on it. We're pretty close to being done. It'll have a slightly different board and batten skin.
  21. That's right. We eventually want to build a larger home for R&R. The tiny house allows us to enjoy the land in the interim at a low cost in relative comfort, particularly for my retired folks.
  22. No, hired a local guy. About $2,300.
  23. Here's a tiny house I did on some family land. I was learning as I went, so far from perfect. But I think it came out pretty good all things considered. Ended up painting it twice as I didn't care for the first color we did.

I'm frankly fine with it. If they don't want my business, I'll spend my money elsewhere. Plus I like knowing the person I might give my money to is a bigot.
  25. I got one in an after Christmas sale for sweeping up dog hair. It did a good job but you have to spend time removing cords and other obstructions it can get stuck on plus the time to empty it and ensure it's charging properly. I ended up not using it much because I could sweep up the room faster than it took to prep it for the robo.
