  1. TTUN = That Team Up North for those not familiar with terminology used by the Ohio State Aggies.
  2. Some of our fans are fucking idiots.
  3. He wasn't all-world, but he also just turned 18 in August. Pretty fucking good, especially with the dual threat. Not really sure we want him winding up in Lane's lap.
  4. There's no question that the United States has the best academic institutions in the world. We've spent nearly a century building them up with state and federal funding. They're the envy of the world. It will take a long time for other institutions to catch up because the US elite institutions are so prestigious they still attract the best students. However, if we look at another metric, you really ought to be concerned. Consider Nature (another UK-based institution like Times of London) and its index of high quality research. Here are the top performing cities in the world as of 2024. Also note the change just from 2023 to 2024, in which every Chinese city rose, and every US city fell. Anyway, I'll stop here because we're getting wildly off topic. But the cold reality is that the quality of US research institutions is not trending in the right direction.
  5. Yes, the US academic and scientific establishment absolutely dominated the world in research during the latter half of the 20th century and the early decades of the current one. For that we can thank Vannevar Bush and other visionaries who, after World War II, realized that the funding basic research, largely at universities, was essential to being an economic and military superpower in the modern era. No one is disputing that the United States dominated Nobel Prizes. But that is fading into the past. Nobel Prizes are often awarded for work done 5, 10, or even 20 years earlier. What people are concerned about is the future of academic research. Federal funding for this is being gutted on one end, and on the other universities are turning to private equity to run what is effectively a pro sports franchise. So yes, the US has done awesome in Nobel Prizes during the last century. But nothing lasts, friend. And the trends right now are pretty shitty.
  6. I remember a marquee bowl game against Michigan 20 years ago. We had a hyped QB who had started to come into his own and roster filled with very talented sophomores and juniors. Texas ended up beating Michigan in a nail biter. Does anyone remember what happened next year when those kids grew up and came back?
  7. Must have strong Pedophilian ties.
  8. Neon Deion loses badly to close the season at Kansas State. Final record for this year, 3-9. So in his first year, a rebuild, the team went 4-8. Second year, his kid and Hunter as mature players, 9-4. After they leave, without any recruiting juice, 3-9. A medical retirement seems most likely after this season, but Colorado isn't going to fire him any time soon, so who knows? Five wins is probably their ceiling under Deion going forward.
  9. Bianco is great at his job. He's worked at UT for three decades, with only a brief period of being out of the job because Steve Patterson fired him. As soon as Patterson was gone, Bianco was hired back. So congratulations on siding with Steve Patterson. I guess it makes sense because when I envision you, it is in a clown suit as well.
  10. Damn, he is so easy to hate.
  11. That's not something "funny." That's a post from a little brother who is worried about getting his ass beat, and looking for a way to get out of the fight.
  12. This thread is indeed a sad representation of Longhorn fandom, populated by the same collection of conspiracy theorists who somehow convinced themselves that Urban Meyer was going to coach here five years ago by looking at hotel room pictures and eating McRib sandwiches. While I agree there are a universe of possibilities this offseason—this is college football after all—the most likely scenario is that Sarkisian returns, hires an OC, makes one or two other coaching changes, and gets the resources needed to make a difference in the portal. Then, with a seasoned Arch Manning Texas makes a serious run at a national championship in 2026.
  13. Sounds like this isn't happening unless all 18 schools are on board.
  14. FWIW it was suggested above regarding Fubo, and I've confirmed it works. As long as you sign up with a different email, you can get five more days free with Fubo even if you use your same name, address, IP, etc.
  15. A man's gotta eat.
  16. From Portage, MI, in the southern part of the state. https://247sports.com/player/charlie-jilek-46152938/
  17. There are no angels in this fight. However, Disney appears to be trying to monetize the content (i.e. football on ESPN) as well as the distribution channels (i.e. ESPN Unlimited or whatever the fuck it's called this week, Fubo, etc). If they succeed in controlling most of the content and most of the distribution channels, it's going to be bad for prices long term. Google provides competitive pressure to keep subscriber costs down.
  18. Yeah, I don't want to mess around with that. We live surrounded by a lot of trees. In the past when I've tried to get a signal it has not worked well. Also the way the TV is mounted it is kind of a pain in the ass to reach its ports.
  19. So dumb question (sorry). I'm in Houston and used Fubo last weekend, which was fine. But I don't really want to pay for a month since Disney owns 70 percent of Fubo (fuck those bastards). If I get a Sling TV day pass will I be able to watch the UT-Georgia game on Saturday? I ask since locals (Sling has ABC in Houston) are not included in the orange package.
  20. The term for people who are absolutely certain about something despite being ignorant is often referred to as exhibiting the "Dunning-Kruger effect." This cognitive bias leads individuals with low ability or knowledge to overestimate their competence.
  21. This is so true. In the industries I follow closely, private equity typically comes in and looks for a high rate of immediate return. Often times they're taking complete control of a company (perhaps acquiring a stressed asset at a discount), shaving costs, and seeking a maximum return before the business goes to shit. In this case they're going to be minority owners, but they're going to propose all sorts of gross and crass marketing or business opportunities to monetize their investment. This will prove to be a terrible deal for Big 10 fans.
  22. I felt this is worth of a new thread because it's such a monumental shakeup for college football. Here's the basic parameters of the deal, from a Ross Dellenger article this morning: So basically, selling 10 percent of your university's athletic department for $135 billion. As part of this agreement member universities also must agree to unequal revenue sharing. USC is not on board for this reason. In public comments made last month, University of Michigan trustees described the deal as a “payday loan” and called it an unnecessary step and a “bail out” for those Big Ten schools that have mismanaged their finances. The Big 10 is moving ahead anyway. I find this fascinating, and I am sympathetic to Michigan. This is effectively a payday loan, and could be a slippery slope. I'd be livid if Texas were considering something like this. It also is interesting because if Michigan and USC don't sign, they're out of the Big 10.
  23. You have to remember this is one of the absolute dumbest posters on this board. A literal mouth-breathing, woe-is-me cunt who makes satya look like the life of the party. Best ignored.
