  1. “I understand how it can work out for guys my size. I know what to expect. I know that I could fall in the draft. I’m not too worried. But anything could happen.”

Schmidt scored 40 goals last season for the Giants, making him one of a mere three draft eligibles in the WHL to reach that mark. Schmidt is also 5-foot-7 and a half inches tall — at that size you want to be exact — and 160 pounds.

How much teams override the first sentence with the second one will be clear this weekend at the draft proceedings in Los Angeles.

TSN’s Craig Button has touting Schmidt since last season — “He lacks height. Nothing else,” Button told Postmedia this year — and slotted him at No. 19 in his latest rankings for this weekend.

Utah, meanwhile, had acres of cap space – more than $18 million, fifth most in the league before the deal – and a new market and owner that wanted to go big. Mission accomplished, Ryan Smith.

    • Of note: Peterka signed a five-year, $7.7 million per season contract as part of the deal.

Did the Sabres get enough – power forward prospect Josh Doan and defenseman Michael Kesselring – for one of their best young players? Our trade graders, including yours truly, aren’t so sure, but a lot will hinge on Doan’s development and Kesselring’s ability to absorb tough minutes alongside Rasmus Dahlin or Owen Power.

  3. I'm good with it. He is still a strong presence in the room. The money works and I don't have to see him on another team. If he got an extra 2 million because he played 80 games I'm pretty sure they can pay it. 60 is probably more realistic and it's still cap friendly.

Of course this is a good thing.  Don't see why there's shame in this.  A triple digit oil would have crushed the world and we may have avoided it.

That didn't stop us previously. I was seriously worried that's what was going to happen. That I was going to head out Sunday morning and overnight the price of a gallon of gas was over 4 bucks. I have seen spikes happen and it flat out sucks. It's not great for the overall economy when it goes negative either. There is so much about the market that rides purely on vibes. What's the quote? The market can be irrational longer than your bank account can stand it. That's not it, but it's the gist of it.

The idiot in chief was lucky to have had his little show of force and so far has only further cemented his dumbassery. It was a risky move that didn't accomplish jack shit except scare me and rile up the hardliners over there.

The status quo remains exactly the same. How has anything at all been accomplished?

Got a good test run of the bunker busters. Dunno man. Spitballing here. I don't think we can call it Mission Accomplished.

You could make most of those same arguments against the 10 commandments law but here we are….

He'll spend the money on that fight he's going to lose.

  7. “Texas must enact a regulatory framework that protects public safety, aligns with federal law, has a fully funded enforcement structure and can take effect without delay,” Abbott said.

In a statement explaining his veto, Abbott argued that SB 3 would not have survived “valid constitutional challenges,” and that the bill’s total ban “puts federal and state law on a collision course,” noting that the 2018 federal Farm Bill legalized hemp products.

“Allowing Senate Bill 3 to become law — knowing that it faces a lengthy battle that will render it dead on arrival in court — would hinder rather than help us solve the public safety issues this bill seeks to contain,” Abbott said. “The current market is dangerously under-regulated, and children are paying the price. If Senate Bill 3 is swiftly enjoined by a court, our children will be no safer than if no law was passed, and the problems will only grow."

I would say destabilizing Iraq really fucked up the Middle East for quite a while and got a lot of American troops and even more civilians killed. There's that little ISIS group that some of us remember.

Libya has been a complete shitshow since Gaddafi was Nowthis'd.

I don't know if I can find it but there's an interview of some bald headed general about the time we were supposed to believe there was uranium cake in Iraq explaining why this effort to destabilize Iraq was a bad idea.

He's probably pushing up daisies now. He would have been fired or ignored in all this anyway.

I'm far more than skeptical that we did anything more than throw money out of airplanes and submarines.

He’s looked like shit for awhile, the chicanery is weighing on him.  He knows better but he’s too much of a pussy to stand up for what’s right.

There's a reason why Rick Wilson bailed on his ass.
