  1. Fidelity, an asset manager that held a stake in Twitter worth about $20m after Musk acquired the business for $44bn, said in a corporate filing that its stake was now worth just under $6.6m. That would value the overall company, now officially called X Holdings Corp after Musk’s early venture X.com, at just $14.75bn.
  2. Sweatergawd I thought it was stuck on a loop yesterday.
  3. I kinda like the small town sentiments in this one. Good ole Zip City Your Daddy was mad as hell He was mad at me and you When he tied that chain to the front of my car And pulled me out of that ditch that we slid into Don't know what his problem is Why he keeps sending me away? Don't know why I put up with this shit When you don't put out and Zip City's so far away Your daddy is a deacon down at the Salem Church of Christ And he makes good money as long as Reynolds wrap keeps everything wrapped up tight Your mama's as good a wife and mama as she can be And your sister's puttin' that sweet stuff on everybody in town but me Your brother was the first born, got ten fingers and ten toes And it's a damn good thing 'cause he needs all 20 to keep the closet door closed Maybe it's the 26 mile drive from Zip City to Colbert Heights Keeps my mind clean Gets me through the night Maybe you're just a destination, a place for me to go Keeps me from having to deal with my 17 year old mind all alone Keep your drawers on, girl, it ain't worth the fight By the time you drop them I'll be gone And you'll be right where they fall the rest of your life You say you're tired of me taking you for granted Waitin' up 'til the last minute to call you up and see what you want to do But you're only 15, girl, you ain't got no secretary And "for granted" is a mighty big word for a country girl like you I bet that's just your daddy talking 'Cause He knows that blood red carpet at the Salem Church of Christ Ain't gonna ever see no wedding between me and you Zip City it's a good thing that they built a wall around you Zip up to Tennessee then zip right down to Alabama I got 350 heads on a 305 engine I get ten miles to the gallon I ain't got no good intentions
  4. The song is a celebration of vigilantism, though Aldean denies it. He defends it as an ode to small-town America, but it is really a statement of entitlement — an assertion of who is allowed to make and enforce the rules, both as a matter of law and as a matter of extralegal violence. These ideas have been intimately linked to country music, courthouses and conservatism for well over a century. And whether he admits it or not, both Aldean’s song and the courthouse where a teen boy was murdered serve as a reminder that historically, appeals to so-called law and order often rely just as much on White vigilantism as they do on formal legal procedures.
  5. I have a few podcasts I wonder about. How much is Dan Carlin pulling in a month? Dangle quit TSN to go full time on his stuff. Got his partner out of morning drive radio too. He started off at his parent's house. I don't mind paying for content. I'll throw five bucks your way just to support the arts in general. If they want to go the podcast route I will give it a listen. Rhyner's podcast was so haphazardly posted there was no way to get a rhythm. He had great stuff, but it was a monthly, at best, event. Dan and Jake can hang in the Dragon Den and be themselves, cuss, drink, vape. All the shit they can't do on terrestrial radio. If they start one I'll check it out. Because I can only take so much Cowboys.
  6. I don't know what is next. I don't know for sure what is happening. Sports is going to happen and someone is going to talk about them. I expect Dan and Jake will be talking somewhere about something, but short or long term destinations are unknown. But, one thing is certain. Shit has definitely changed.
  7. You mean the guy caught on camera smelling his finger is not smart?! Whoa now. Next your going to tell me he ran off a bunch of workers and pissed off one of the biggest employers in the state.
  8. But, it's what they want to hear. The pliable country fan dreams of a world that is a figment of a warped imagination. Tell me bout the good ole days Arguably one of their best songs encapsulated it. A past that has no race cards played. One that is hushed up and not talked about. Dallas keeps blasting the X off the street but it's still a City of Hate.
  9. I'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt that he knew it was a lynching site. CMT didn't know it either, but they pulled it as soon as they found out. As for bro country, that's an entirely different discussion. Yes, it is a part of the genre. Just as schlocky pop is a cousin. There has been a lot of shitty music that was wildly popular. That's fine. I don't have to listen to it willingly. Bo's video was spot on. There's a Jack Ingram song about Happy Country Song. Country music has its critics singing their disdain. He didn't write it. Didn't film it. Didn't promote it. He wore his outfit and sang to the track. Which I hope to not hear any time soon. I'm not really all that offended. Any given courthouse in the south has a chance of being the site of racial violence, up to and including lynchings. He's a douche. Bro country is shitty. The south can be racist as Fuck.
  10. Granted, Trump has taken wildly inconsistent positions on any number of subjects and probably couldn’t identify Ukraine on a map. But that brings us to DeSantis’s fourth problem, the one he can’t seem to control: his personality. He is not naturally funny, entertaining, or charming. Just as he doesn’t understand the pro-wrestling-style kayfabe involved in Trump’s ostensible hatred of media outlets, he doesn’t understand that Trump’s regular flirtations with bigotry are softened with a knowing wink.
  11. Since Elon has fucked up Twitter I'll be posting whole threads.
  12. Is this just poster BS? from MTC AnonymousJuly 18, 2023 at 5:02 PM They're Freak bound. They've been Freak bound since the inception of The Freak. Whitt was dead on correct. The demands they were making were laughable. They knew their demands were laughable. The entire negotiating process that began in December was a farce. It was a farce because there should not have been any negotiations going on in the first place. They began the process of trying to renegotiate their contracts with the intent on coming to an impasse in order to resign and in doing so not coming off as the bad guy because we all know it's always The Man's fault.
  13. Just in case it wasn't clear. He wants to be king. Mr. Trump and his associates have a broader goal: to alter the balance of power by increasing the president’s authority over every part of the federal government that now operates, by either law or tradition, with any measure of independence from political interference by the White House, according to a review of his campaign policy proposals and interviews with people close to him. Mr. Trump intends to bring independent agencies — like the Federal Communications Commission, which makes and enforces rules for television and internet companies, and the Federal Trade Commission, which enforces various antitrust and other consumer protection rules against businesses — under direct presidential control. 14. It happened back in 2020. I can't find anything after that arrest. https://www.heraldtribune.com/story/news/crime/2020/08/24/what-led-wauchula-man-to-go-on-white-supremacist-tirade-at-sarasota-restaurant/3337348001/ But the incident was part of a troubling pattern of incidents that culminated with his alleged actions on July 31 at Pop’s Sunset Grill in south Sarasota County for which he does face charges. His appearance at the friendly waterfront hub was the first time his family knew his whereabouts since he was fired a week earlier from a job in Venice with a family glass business. ---- He believes his brother had “delusions of grandeur” and was attempting to sabotage the job in Venice so that Drew Schock, a part owner in the company, would lose his license and be forced to give up his share of the business. On a self-made letterhead, Nicholas presented his brother with a lawsuit. Drew Schock fired him on the spot. “I didn’t hear from him for about a week,” Drew Schock said. “He was sending me all these messages. We were trying to find him to have him involuntarily committed under the Baker Act. He spiraled out.”
  15. My daughter shared a tweet of him. She absolutely hates golf. Pretty good golf today. I avoided the thread because the clock is a goddamn mess with the delay. But, that's a good one today for Rory.
