  1. opponents grabbing 32% of their missed shots has been very hard to watch as well.
  2. for me the hallmark of RT’s teams is being atrocious at defending the three. not a simple drop off from beard, not below average, not simply bad- his teams are terrible at defending the three point line. outside of our ncaa tourney run last year where our veteran team who’d been previously coached by chris beard really shined in this area, we have been downright awful. teams get wide open looks all game every game. we essentially have no three point defense, and the numbers show it: 230th in the country and 14th in the league at defending the three. it’s just hard to watch, and having been an assistant under two highly successful coaches who’ve made their name as defensive gurus, RT’s lackluster defenses and complete inability to defend the perimeter is just a damning indictment on his ability to be a head coach at this level.
  3. i’ve mentioned him a few times already this year. great defensive coach, which, since 1999, has been the hallmark of our program. proven to be a very competitive coach in the big xii, and he’s still young. i’m definitely interested in TJO.
  4. to be fair we used to get the same treatment at times under barnes. same with sampson’s OU teams, and at times it’s the same for rick's tennessee teams. these teams/coaches basically pull the draymond green move on the officials: “we’re going to be extremely aggressive and physical for 40 minutes and we’re going to dare you to call every foul you see.” you get an established coach with an established style of play, you give him a highly ranked team with some older players, and yeah- they’re going to be officiated differently than everyone else. but like someone said, one unforgiving officiating crew in the tourney and you’re in trouble.
  5. i mean DG has done pretty damn well for himself between his music success and the success of Atlanta. he definitely wanted to get away from being pigeonholed as Troy Barnes, and he succeeded in that no question.
  6. can’t believe it’s been that long since uconn hosted a top 5 team as a top 5 team themselves. that’s gonna be a fun environment.
  7. same. if ever they were going to live up to expectations this should be the team. if painter goes home early with this team, what do you even do with him at that point?
  8. players have talent, it’s up to the manager to get the most out of them. some statistical analysis metric similar to WAR ranked francis coquelin as the second worst player in all of the bundesliga, just about a year before he became one of our most important players. kai havertz is a very talented and intelligent player with size and versatility. to this point his problem is that he doesn’t have a position. well, now he’s here at Arsenal under arteta who seems to be creating Positional Play 2.0, where you don’t have to have a position. when you look at the recruitment of new players under arteta he either looks for guys have specific strengths in holes we need filled, or more often for guys who are a)comfortable on the ball and b)who can play multiple positions. if/when kai truly gets his feet under him at arsenal he will become our swiss army knife. i have zero doubts about his ability and his IQ. in my mind the only question is if mentally he will be able to make the strides needed to fulfill his talent. he’s found the perfect home in this system with this manager. he doesn’t need to have a position to thrive at arsenal. he needs time, and confidence. this is the most recent thing i’ve come across which has influenced this opinion:
  9. he’s won 71% of his tourney games at basketball powerhouses Arkansas Little Rock, Texas Tech, and Texas. here’s every coach with a better win% with 5+ tourney appearances: Coach K Roy Williams Coach Cal Bill Self thats it. that’s the list.
  10. aside from quietly being awesome again despite the deluge of slander he received after his first season in minnesota, rudy gobert is also out here doing this:
  11. shaka smart tourney wins since his FF run 13 years ago: three chris beard wins in his first ever tourney appearance at tech: three the two are on opposite ends of the spectrum when it comes to coaching in the tourney. even rick barnes has been better than shaka since 2011, despite his own teams continuing to underachieve in the tourney. matt painter might be the only bigger choke artist than shaka smart.
  12. i’ve been thinking, and reading up on some stuff, and i’ve come to the conclusion that kai havertz is eventually going to become a very very good player for Arsenal. he wouldn’t be the first player to ever have a slow first season before everything clicks, and the more i learn about arteta’s vision and tactics, the more kai havertz seems like a perfect fit. i say he becomes an important player for us, one who the fans come to love and appreciate.
  13. like i’ve said here for years, i do not ever engage him first. ever. you guys don’t like this dynamic? call out the guy who you know for a fact seeks me out over andover and over and over. i never seek him out, but you cannot expect me to ignore every single one of his countless posts towards me, particularly when he’s a)always talking shit and b)always uninformed. when i was an educator and one kid would not stop fucking with another kid we didn’t punish both kids, we told the antagonistic shithead to leave the other kid alone.
  14. i was looking at the kenpom page from the year that got barnes fired, and damn- what a tough way to go out. here’s the final kenpom ranking of every team Texas lost to that year: 39)Stanford (in OT) 38)OSU x2 (once in OT) 25)WVU 20)Butler 16)ISU x3 (losses of 8, 3, and 2 points) 14)Baylor 12)KU x2 11)OU x2 (lost on road by two points) 1)Kentucky 11 of 14 losses came against top 25 kenpom teams, and the worst loss was against NIT champion stanford during the time period when isaiah taylor was out injured. i mean yeah, that team should have been a lot better than it was, and honestly it would have been without Taylor’s injury, but damn- on paper that is a tough way to go out.
  15. his latest has us as the third 10 seed, playing Kentucky in round one. if that happens, first team to 90 wins…probably.
  16. this is the literal opposite of reality. you bend over backwards to seek me out and start shit, and everyone here (except you) knows it. i’ve been publicly asking you to stop for years. multiple people have pm’d me about your hard on for me, encouraging me to ignore you since you so clearly cannot stop yourself. it’s frankly hard to believe that you actually believe what you’re typing. for the record, i don’t ever engage you first- as in never. it’s you starting bullshit with me 100% of the time. you are free to stop it any time you choose. stop crying like a little victim and just leave me alone from now on. problem solved.
  17. alison brie- still hot: also donald gloved says that the script has been finalized and that he’s “all-in”.
  18. vitriol? lol do you know what that word means? you did your normal combative thing mr.”facts not feelings”, and i simply pointed out that you were wrong (and you neg repped me for it lol). for someone who spends 80% of his posts talking shit you sure do have mighty thin skin. congrats on the active life though lol.
  19. every time i click on the “perfect songs” thread:
  20. it’s ea sports. it’s going to blow you away how much the game makes your blood pressure rise with its scripting, inadequate gaming engine, bugs that never get fixed, nonsensical physics, and what will not doubt be a myriad of other infuriating, cost cutting, “fuck you pay me” type issues. and yet i’m still playing ncaa 2007 on an old xbox 360.
