  1. Interesting. I heard Hannah did not get along with Jamey Rootes (RIP) who was the original team president that Grissom replaced back in 2021. Bob McNair had a great relationship with Rootes.
  2. It's a pretty fascinating situation for us next year on that side of the ball. If you consider 2021 as a throwaway season, all we've really seen during Sark's tenure is the Quinn Ewers offense. When you consider the issues in 2024 - Baxter ACL, Wisner eventually taking the lead role, Quinn's abdominal and ankle injuries, troubles with the deep ball - we just seemed to be very limited offensively. Inconsistent running game, QB was zero threat on the ground, defenses not scared of getting beat deep, and most of our success passing on predetermined or one read throws. Think about how many big plays in CFB are off schedule. VY's highlight reel is full of them. And we rarely saw that the last few years. By the 2nd half of this past season our offense felt choked out already. I don't think Arch will improvise a bunch, but it will happen more. Based on early returns, deep completions are back on the menu. Arch wants to and will go through progressions. While his running ability is probably overrated at this point, it's still a weapon. We'll see what happens in the Spring/portal, but I expect the RB room to be in a better situation heading into Game 1 compared to last year. We have a shitload of young talent at WR, maybe need one in the portal. I've seen many offensive players praise Quinn for the "calmness" he played with and how it positively affected the team. I believe it. 4th and 13 was probably the crowning moment that displayed that particular strength for Ewers. Arch is very different. He will bring physicality and an aggressive mindset. While he's a Manning, he's clearly a modern version. Dude loves to celebrate, talk shit, and has shown a lot of emotion on the field. The energy he brings will be noticeable and, hopefully, hugely effective.
  3. America First, but with the average American being last. Lower Costs, but raise prices through tariffs. Close The Border, but bring in immigrants. Free Speech, but really whatever the billionaires want. Life Starts At Conception, but politically ends after birth.
  4. There was a stretch where Moore dropped a few easy ones. I'm a fan. 39 catches and 7 TDs in his first real year of action. 9-114 and our only TD on great run after catch in SEC championship game. Arch has a good rapport with him. He's gonna kill it this year.
  5. Great song. Always loved and maybe even prefer this cover. A bit more urgency.
  6. He mentioned at the end of Coffee & Football this morning that a new hire will be on the livestream later today/tonight.
  7. I know and respect there are varying opinions on AI and its usefulness. But this is a message board. The point is for users to write their own thoughts and opinions. I'd rather see this thread die off than get an answer from ChatGPT or whatever other AI app to keep it going. I think it's prudent to discourage the use of AI overall on Surly, because the content here will go to absolute shit if we start letting it become normal.
  8. I'm glad this is happening. Red zone issues cost us all season and in the end, a national championship. We were that close. Now fix this shit in the offseason and go fuck everyone up next year.
  9. It's important to be able to tackle when on defense.
  10. Ready to vocally blame everything on Trump...
  11. Obviously the Ohio State game will be extremely challenging, particularly as the opener for the season. Would love to have a warm-up game. But one real advantage that could come to fruition is Sark having an offensive gameplan that the Buckeyes won't be prepared for at all. Different formations and routes and designs with Arch that didn't show up in this past Cotton Bowl. If we execute, I can see us putting up some points. Having an entire offseason to prepare for that one game - and knowing the next 3 games are at home vs. pretty shitty competition - allows Sark to throw everything at the Ohio State defense. Can't wait.
  12. Can't wait to see weather massively affect another round of NFL playoff games!
  13. I kinda figured this, and was dumbfounded by all the talking heads saying he wants to be in the NFL again. He got chewed up and spit out after 2 years in Atlanta, then went straight back to working for Saban. Using logic, it would be a terrible move for Sark to go to the NFL. Glad we got this worked out and over with quickly.
  14. Simms on Arch
  15. Gunnar Helm's dad posted this on the OTF thread: Amari is a great young man who always had a positive attitude and is a great teammate. We wish him the best of luck. The TE room is in good hands, and very talented. Sometimes the answer is not in the portal or incoming freshmen. Coach Banks is developing everyone in the room to be ready to contribute.
  16. Feels like most of the reports said Niblack was a good teammate and hard worker. Good luck to him.
  17. No doubt QB sneak is back on the table. As mentioned, we ran it with ease for Arch vs. Colorado St, but had some issues with it later on. Sark was chewing Arch out when it took multiple attempts vs. Miss St. Feel pretty comfortable we will get that sorted out this offseason.
  18. After Arch, Simmons is the most important player/recruit on this team. His ceiling is being the best defensive player in the country and a top 3 pick in 2 years. Pay him whatever is necessary.
  19. I was a junior in HS in 1993 and was a sportswriter for the school paper. I did this big NFL season preview piece before the season started. Predicted the Oilers going 12-4 and beating the Chiefs in the AFC championship game. Got a lot of grief from my friends when Houston started 1-4. Then as said above, we won 11 straight to hit 12-4. I was so confident in that team. Damn, damn, damn. Still too soon.
  20. A good buddy of mine from HS was the deep snapper at A&M for 4 years. He said he, P, and K all would dip Copenhagen and fart around most of the time at practice. And they were all good at their positions. Maybe things have changed in last 30 years, but seemed to be pretty low stress.
  21. Arch's short interview before the Peach Bowl: A couple of things to note - - He immediately says Wingo and Deandre Moore when asked who he has a good rapport with. Makes sense but still a great sign as our top returning WRs. - When asked about what he learned from his 2 starts, he said that "if I get game-like reps in practice, it will carry over." Let's remember that Arch enrolled at Texas in January 2023. We are right now entering Year 3 with Sark's offense and playbook. This will be his first Spring getting starter reps. He clearly held the ball too long and was adjusting to game speed in real time vs. UTSA and ULM at times. Better vs. Miss St. Win or lose vs. Ohio State, he's gonna learn A TON after Week 1, then has a month of cupcakes (and a bye sprinkled in) to get prepared for SEC play.
  22. The only thing not to love when watching the Rockets is Ryan Hollins. His patented "The Rockets have to be careful here..." line came at the start of the 2nd quarter when we were up 5. Ok, man. Then we proceed to outscore Denver 41-25 in the 2nd q.
  23. RB situation is gonna be pretty interesting next year. Good chance that Wisner, Gibson, Simon, and Stewart are the only projected healthy RBs heading to Columbus for Game 1. I hope for the best with Baxter and Christian Clark, but we're probably lucky to have either 100% ready to go by start of conference play. We'll see, but I expect the offense to look quite different next year with Arch. Fewer condensed formations and misdirections. More downhill blocking and physical running attack. We'll probably see Arch go under center a decent amount too. I like Wisner a lot. But we need another RB to step up and be 1B (if not 1A).
