  1. I've never bought Kentucky Owl, but FYI for those that like it: Batch #4 of their Rye is behind the glass case at Total Wines in Houston. I think it's like $279. Just noticed them today.
  2. Pretty steep, but the high proof makes it easier to pay that amount IMO.
  3. Yeah, I've heard the John is the best of the Bowmans. It's on my radar but haven't pulled the trigger yet.
  4. So I have purposefully and stubbornly avoided any Texas whiskeys when amassing my collection. But I picked up this store pick from Rice Fine Wines and Liquor in Houston, and it’s fucking delicious The blend is a MGP rye with TX/KY bourbons. Its 110 proof (main reason I bought it), but the regular bottles I’ve seen as low as 87 proof at a Spec’s. Very happy with this specific bottle at $40. Sweet and spicy. I might try to get another tomorrow if still available. It dropped a few days ago. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  5. That had to be an error where they charged you for a regular Michter's rye or something, right? Isn't MSRP around $80? Nice score and price.
  6. Yev, I have 4 B520s behind my open bottle. Happy to get you one if ever needed.
  7. Total Wine is a fucking war zone these days. Everyone hunting there knowing that it's the only chain in Houston that consistently shelves allocated bottles. This morning I went to the TW in Memorial area. Got there about 10:05. Saw a dude with a bottle of ER in his hands looking at other bourbon bottles. Asked where he got the ER, and he pointed to a two-tiered little shelf in the middle of the aisle and it was kind of hidden on the bottom shelf. Grabbed one and kept looking. Dude said they shelved one case of 107 yesterday and that it lasted from about 10am-11:30am (sidenote: How does he know that? Does he stay there all day? Did he come back at 11:30am? Weird.) Didn't see anything else worth grabbing and started heading to checkout line, when I saw another cheap 3 tiered shelf near the corner of bourbon aisle, and three 107s were just sitting there by themselves (there were probably 5-6 other people in the bourbon section). No one else noticed but me. I grabbed one, alerted the others, and 2 guys came to take the last two. I'm walking up to the counter to pay, and a TW employee comes up to me and says limit 1. I said yeah, I'm only grabbing one ER and one 107. He said, "no, you can only have one or the other". Haha, fucking ridiculous. I put the ER back and bought the 107. So stupid.
  8. Cool, I'll pronounce it as "bah-RELL" bourbon from now on.
  9. I haven't bought a Barrel either. I heard some are good, but I don't give a shit. I hate their pricing, labeling, and overabundance of options.
  10. If a bottle is $100+ and the stores are fully stocked with it then I'm passing. I haven't purchased a Whistle Pig out of sheer spite.
  11. Since I started collecting, I have around 30 bottles open. I'm mostly drinking alone these days (thanks COVID), and find it fun to work on nosing/tasting/palate and occasionally do some blinds. I've only killed one bottle (Antique 107) because I have 3 behind it.
  12. Is that a 25 year Rittenhouse I see?
  13. I've heard nothing but positive things about the Weller Full Proof. Is it really that good? Seems like a good comp would be another strong wheater like Larceny BP. How do they compare? I really want this bottle, but it has eluded me.
  14. Hey @Jimbaround, I just want to apologize now for not being more into bourbon with you and @huge years ago.
  15. Speaking of dusty bottles, a friend of mine found these unopened in his grandparent’s liquor cabinet. Had a small pour of the 60 year old Old Fitz...pure candy. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  16. This is great news and needs to go somewhere.
  17. 1. Grab big baking dish 2. Order 4 quarts of Mac and Cheese from the Pit Room in Houston 3. Dump into said baking dish. Serve hot.
  18. I'm still pretty new to this, but I bought 4 Glencairns and started doing blind tests with 4 different bottles to get better at identifying noses/palates/finishes. By the time I'm done I have a nice buzz and don't have to worry about an order with regards to proof.
  19. Rare Breed Rye is still pretty available (for now), but I'll probably get a back up. Have read that people are blending their Rare Breed & Rare Breed Rye and the results are great. Might have to do that. EHT Rye is an automatic buy for me, but I've only see the Small Batch at stores.
  20. @huge raves about Double Oak Sagamore Rye. That's on my list to purchase soon.
  21. So fare I've purchased: WMND High West Double Rye (2 different store picks) Rare Breed Rye Russell's Reserve SiB Rye Willet 4 year Michter's Straight Rye OF Rye Regular Sazerac Pikesville Any recs are appreciated.
