Sometimes it takes quite a bit of salt in my experience, but it definitely works well. The chain mail is just really good at getting the stuck on foods and keeping things from building up. The salt is good for getting a little deeper when there's carbon build up a lot of people mistake for seasoning. One reason those antique cast iron pans are so smooth is that they used to use finer sand to cast them or polished them more to finish. I love my Lodge, but I eventually took an orbital sander to it to smooth it out. From there, I built the seasoning back up and it's nice and smooth like one of the old ones ever since then.

From what I've read, the manual stuffer is the way to go though. My grinder will do it, and I got a cheap foot switch to control things. So I'll probably try that first since I have it. But looking down the road, the manual route may be the way.

Yes, I actually have a relevant story about this scene playing in the background with another person who was, thenceforth, referred to as "The Natural."

It's directly, albeit with some wiggle room to make it a series and bring it ahead forty years, based on the 1981 movie of the same name written and directed by Alan Alda (hence, his cameo in the series). The movie is an absolute gem, and I'm enjoying the series quite a bit. Reading all the comments on the last page, it looks like no one has seen the movie. In the current iteration, I think Tina Fey's, Steve Carrel's, and Erika Henningsen's performances give pretty solid nods to Carol Burnett's, Len Cariou's, and Bess Armstrong's respective performances in the original film. The rest of the cast in the series is good, but the chemistry between them doesn't hold a candle to the chemistry between the characters, both as couples and as friends, in the movie. But if you find the story relatable, you really should check out the original.- Old School BMX....
My ramp eventually suffered this same fate when my mom unwittingly drove over it with her car. I was so pissed off.- Old School BMX....
My dad helped me build a ramp. But it was only about a 2 foot rise. So I moved it to the end of our driveway, which had about a four-foot sloped drop from the level part of the driveway to the street. I used to go flying off that ramp into the middle of the street. It was a blast, and it's a wonder I didn't get run over by a car.- Moving to London
Nah, just kidding. Sounds often. No advice. Just envy.- Surly Sausages
I just bought a grinder and have my eye on a manual stuffer to compliment it when I replenish the BBQ-funds. Until then, I may try my hand at stuffing with the grinder (and a foot switch). Anyway, for those interested in some good how-to videos, check out Chud's BBQ on Youtube. Bradley does a lot of sausage videos (among other things) and although he's goofy, which seems par for the course with Youtube creators, there's no doubt he knows what he's doing and he has a ton of content. https://www.youtube.com/@ChudsBbq/videos- Awful Texas foodways
I was around and paid attention when she was cooking these things. She would show me how to do it, but only when I showed her that I would clean things as I went and not leave a mess in the kitchen. Pot of white rice was one of my favorite things to eat as a young teenager. I'd cook it up, douse it with seasoned salt, black pepper, and butter and eat it with ketchup. And I'd do it today just like that if it weren't my window to weight gain. I made rice in college all the time. I nearly burned down University towers during my first semester after coming home at 2 a.m. properly drunk, putting on a pot of rice, and promptly passing out, only to wake up who knows how long later with a room full of smoke. I guess I mentioned this to my mom, who sent me a Rival Rice Cooker, which lasted me a good 25 years after that. I still make Hamburger Chili Rice from time to time. Everyone seems to enjoy it.- Job hunting - A different kind of happy ending

My mom made her kids and grandchildren a cookbook of all of our favorites growing up. Another tasty treat was "Hamburger Chili Rice. Basically, a pound of ground beef (browned), onion, green bell pepper, can of chopped tomatoes (she didn't do spice, but this is where I would sub Ro-Tel), 2 cups of rice, 3--4 cups of water, lots of seasoned salt, chili powder, cumin, boil, cover, cook until done. I know this thread has taken a turn into damned tasty stuff our parents threw together, but like other easy recipes mentioned above, this one also is pretty solid, weeknight fare.- Awful Texas foodways

I've posted about this before, but my Dad's go-to sandwich was wheat bread, mayo, bologna, American cheese, peanut butter, and Coleman's brown mustard. He'd get lots of grief from everyone every time he made it but he didn't give two shits. I tried it once, and while it wasn't for me, it wasn't half bad. And on the 115th anniversary of his birth in a couple of months, I'm inclined to make a version of his sandwich in his honor, although I may, with a modicum of guilt, upgrade the Oscar Meyer and Kraft ingredients.- Shit I've Cooked Lately

My mom used to make "Spaghetti Casserole. Spaghetti (cooked) on the bottom. Top with mixture of jarred sauce and ground beef. Top with shredded cheddar, repeat. Bake covered at 350F for about 40 minutes. Pretty damned tasty actually.- India vs Pakistan: Fight
I incorrectly read that in Donald Sutherland's voice. Tom Skerritt. Aw, hell: "We were in the worst dogfight I ever dreamed of. There were bogeys like fireflies all over the sky. His F-4 was hit, and he was wounded, but he could've made it back. He stayed in it, saved three planes before he bought it."- Texas BBQ
