My October has been an interesting one. I think a lot of the folks on here know that I am a big McQueen person, so last weekend was full of fashion events. On the 10th, had drinks and a late, light lunch at Goodman's bar in the Bergdorf Men's store, then after an event at McQueen (NY Flagship is on Madison at E 58th, which is so close to my house) went to Donahue's (old school steakhouse on Lexington) with a friend. Saturday, had another event at McQueen then went to dinner at Fasano Fifth Avenue with the brand, which was so much fun (lots of martinis and an absolutely excellent mushroom risotto).
Wednesday was a friend's birthday, so we went to Hi Life for martinis and dinner, then tried to go to Scarlet with no reservations (it was full, and we were not waiting 45 mins), so went to The Gin Mill where we relived our college days in New Orleans ordering beers and rounds of shots. Sometimes, that is necessary. Friday, another friend and I went to Le Veau d'Or for dinner. As always, absolutely excellent, and they are starting to do more daily specials adding to the prix fix. I did some sort of veal brains starter that was absolutely excellent, and I am not one for brains. As always, their chicken and the duck and cherries were excellent. Afterwards, we went and saw the new Frankenstein at the Paris theater. GO SEE IT. I really enjoyed the movie.
Yesterday, it was time to protest, so effectively, over the course of the morning/afternoon, I walked down 7th avenue from 57th to W 10th. I bought a few books, including Tim Curry's new biography and another biography on James Baldwin, and headed back uptown. Then I took Harvey for a nice walk to look at some of the Halloween decorations.
Today, I am meeting up with my same friends from Wednesday, one is a Browns fan, so I assume it will be at a pub with football on.
This week, I am going to dinner at Radio Kwara in Brooklyn (same chef as Department of Culture, and West African) before going to see LACRIMA at the BAM. Then on Thursday, I have some event at Printemps, so I am going to try and hit up one of the new restaurants on my to go to list, or revisit an old favorite in Crown Shy since I will be downtown. Too many choices. During the weekend, I have no idea what I am going to do, but a lot of times, I like to hit a bakery in the AM, try a new place for lunch, then make dinner at home. That way, I can do more casual and try more varied things.
No plans for Halloween yet. Work has been pretty intense lately, so I am trying to not drink during the week (Wednesday night being an exception due to a birthday), but that is a good thing as it means I spend less.
