  1. Yup. It's an extremely bad deal for independent sex workers. it both makes it harder to get clients and makes it harder to verify whether its safe to see clients. I know a couple of girls who pretty much 100% relied on eccie to get clients and to vet guys with other girls.
  2. Cubs pushed the game one hour to 2:20 to allow more time to prep the field
  3. For decades, schools had the luxury of a monopoly on the best and brightest female college graduates in the country. Fortunately the rest of the labor market is not so overtly sexist anymore and such a monopoly no longer exists. Problem is, without a monopoly of that labor, the cost of employing the same caliber of teachers has gone up significantly. Unfortunately, teacher wages have remained flat for basically that entire time. You’re like Tahoe’s great great granddaddy in Hazel Green, AL complaining that the costs of operating his plantation have gone up since 1865 and his revenues haven’t kept pace.
  4. Harper is the most scrutinized player in baseball now that ARod is retired.
  5. The average college graduate will receive social security. And you continue to refer to tenure despite having already been told there’s no such thing. And while the time off doesn’t come in large chunks like it does for teachers, my friends who are teachers work as many if not more hours in a year than my full-time employees.
  6. This study defined sex trafficking as,
  7. This presupposes that the goal should be for teachers to be the quality of an average college graduate.
  8. Arrieta seems about as likely as Kapler to be the Phillies manager by the all star break.
  9. I love it but I think a lot of that is nostalgia and comfort. I don’t think I’d be near as high on it if I hadn’t been going there since I was a toddler.
  10. There was a study a few years ago that found that legalization and decriminalization increased sex trafficking. And that the effect is greater the richer the country is. https://orgs.law.harvard.edu/lids/2014/06/12/does-legalized-prostitution-increase-human-trafficking/
  11. We’ll see. So far people are clearly deciding it’s not with the risk. Other than backpage, the closures have been voluntary, not government seizures.
  12. I support any state's secession so long as they remit to the federal government their share of the national debt (either 1/50th or based on House apportionment, whichever is larger). So as long as South Carolina can come up with ~$425b, adios!
  13. Only one ball was at all well hit so that was mostly a combination of bad batted ball luck and bad defense.
  14. If the goal is reducing sex trafficking and prostitution, reducing supply and demand by shutting down craigslist, backpage, and eccie will be far more impactful than arresting individual johns and hookers.
  15. Before Longhorn Dam but Mansfield (and Tom Miller) were built before Disch Field.
  16. Old Disch Field on Barton Springs with Butler Park and Zilker Park in the background.
  17. Not quite the same but they are converting Congress from 16th to MLK into a pedestrian mall.
  18. I think some are deluded but some are kids who are being forced out. Lagerald Vick at Kansas is an example this year. If he would be eligible next fall maybe he just transfers rather than declaring for the draft where he's likely to go undrafted.
  19. That said, I would rather see a system where players and schools can decide how long they want their mutual commitment to be. If they agree to a four-year scholarship, then the player can't transfer without a penalty and the school loses that scholarship for all four years, whether the player is still on the roster or not. If they agree to a one-year scholarship, he only takes up a scholarship for one year. The player can then leave without penalty after a year or the two parties can agree to extend the scholarship for 1-3 years.
  20. I'm not so sure about that. There were 26 kids last year who declared early for the draft and went undrafted. Without a transfer penalty, they may be more likely to transfer to a lesser program for a better opportunity for playing time.
  21. For student-athletes who meet GPA and degree-advancement benchmarks. http://www.ncaa.org/about/resources/media-center/news/di-committee-academics-considers-transfer-rule-changes
  22. Still seems like it'd make more sense to just do a Thurs-Sat series (or leave Monday open for both teams). Skipping Friday only helps you if there is a weather issue on Thursday whereas skipping Sunday or Monday can help if any of the games are rained/snowed out.
  23. Lagerald Vick leaving Kansas. Did he get forced out to free up a scholarship? Seems like he probably goes undrafted.
