  1. This is a bit interesting. I understand that’s the general sentiment, but the defense arguably had a better season with less talent than the offense.
  2. Maurice Jones-Drew: He shouldn't be a Hall of Famer. His stats aren't there, and he was never one of the league's top receivers during his career. Speaking about Edelman. He was a 7th round pick as a former QB from a nothing college. The most TDs in a season was 7 and generally was 11 yards per catch. Not sure if accurate but a quick read says he was never a pro bowler. Welker was undrafted and cut once. He was great and did get some accolades no doubt but was second fiddle to Moss. He also only had 50 TD catches and was an 11 yard per catch guy. Troy Brown had 1 pro bowl. He is NE Hall of Famer but outside of their circle was never really hyped as a star. 31 TD catches. There’s probably more appreciation for them post career than during it. All 3 late draft picks or undrafted that are likely miscast and underutilized with any other team.
  3. They had a lot of underappreciated guys. NE was probably the first to use the undersized but not overly fast WR. Troy Brown, Welker, Edelman. They weren’t stars, but they were incredibly difficult to cover on the underneath stuff. Edelman destroyed the Rams in that Super Bowl.
  4. That first Super Bowl they won the AFC championship on the road without Brady. In the Super Bowl their offense scored 13 with the defense scoring 7. Nevermind the defense held down the Rams O. They also won a Super Bowl scoring 13 points which is the lowest winning total since 1975 or some shit. So that’s two Super Bowl wins with the offense along for the ride. The losses in which they gave up 21 and 17 were amongst the lowest scoring totals to win a Super Bowl in the last 50 years. They won 3 super bowls in Brady’s first 4 years of starting. Years in which he never completed more than 64% of his passes, never threw 30 TDs and had double digit picks in each of those years. Even that Falcons game, the Falcons scored on a pick 6. The Pats had 12 points into the 4th quarter when the defense caused a fumble that ended with a 25 yard TD drive. And of course the Seahawks blew it. They were fortunate the Bills, Dolphins and Jets were largely crappy during this time. To act as though this run wasn’t heavily influenced by defense and special teams is completely off base. That’s the Bill factor.
  5. DFEI was #12 in 2014, #43 in 2015 and #44 in 2016. The OFEI was 95, 87, and 66. I guess the Big 12 wasn’t great across the board but two top 10 teams along with top 20 KSU. I’m not sure how good Bedford was but Baylor and TCU were in their heyday offensively. OU began stuttering until Riley came on board. Mahomes was at Tech. I don’t know the inner workings of recruiting, but there are too many guys hanging out in or around the NFL to say they were horrible recruiters especially considering that it was only 3 years with the first year being a short one. But maybe Herman and staff were great developers. Those defenses were mediocre in 15 and 16 because they were young. The offense was terrible. That KU loss that ended it all had the defense pitching a shutout for 3 quarters but 6 turnovers were the issue. Ironically enough those 6 turnovers were at the hands of future NFLers.
  6. I’m not sure it matters. Give me option C. Tomlin has a big impact on why his roster is as it is. He’s halfway tried to get a QB, but I’m not sure Canada wasn’t the bigger issue. Dan Moore and whatever that C from Illinois that got let go were relatively high draft picks. They picked Najee when they needed help upfront. I do like their offensive skill guys, but the offense is terrible. They’ve got good defensive guys upfront but struggle to cover.
  7. He also hired Canada. And playoff defense giving up 42 a game won’t win much. He’s had plenty of time to get a QB and OL. All that’s on him.
  8. Why the hell doesn’t he have that roster? Not enough time with the Steelers? He’s 3-10 in his last 13 playoff games. That goes back to 2011. I believe that loss was to Tim Tebow by the way. He won the Super Bowl in year 2. Barry Switzer won the Super Bowl in year 2. Only returned to the Super Bowl in 2010 since that win. Since 2017, they have given up 166 points in 4 playoff games. All losses. He has 2 double digit playoff wins with 5 double digit losses.
  9. Are you saying prime Brady was in his 40s? Seeing how he didn’t leave until late in his career.
  10. One of those is not like the others. And I ain’t talking Purdy.
  11. That time to throw difference is big but 2.45 is very quick to release the ball. The 2.93 is around high average going from memory. There was a difference of 0.31 when kept clean and 0.65 when pressured. Penix was no doubt feeling pressure quicker versus UM resulting 4-18 and 2 picks when pressured. He was 9-15 versus us. But he also was better when clean against us. Just one of those days in which he was draining 3s.
  12. I buy that to an extent. Is it on catches only or all throws? I’d assume but catches but he missed more often versus Michigan so that might presumably increase the yardage difference. The missed deep ball to Odunze was his worst throw in the two games. Time to throw versus Texas was 2.93 seconds and 2.45 versus Michigan so that’d lean more towards tighter coverage from Texas because more time to separate.
  13. I’m confused. So you can’t gain 20 pounds of muscle in a summer. Even using steroids? What about in 8 months, with or without steroids?
  14. Will that go the same for Hornsdown4ever Caleb? Guess I’m on the wrong board as my primary loyalties rest with the Horns. Always.
  15. I’m probably his biggest critic, but you’re largely looking at it from a stats standpoint. The hidden big plays are 3rd down stops. He was more effective here this year. Even versus UW, he made important tackles that were sorta non-descript. His overall tackles were down because the guys up front took more away. He missed fewer tackles. Turnovers are a different deal. Fumbles recovered is largely out of a players control. For most fumbles caused is a bit of fortune rather concerted effort. Interceptions are more under the players control but still dependent on other factors including drops. I never see it referenced in critique of PK is walking up our LB to the end of the LOS. I’m not sure it ever worked. Oline engagement is not Fords strongsuit. He was better this year on his physical game in my opinion.
  16. To hell with any of you Cowboys fans who allow your hatred of the Eagles to outweigh your hatred of baker. Hurts is tolerable whereas mayfield is not.
  17. The baker has been good. The TB pass catchers have not been.
  18. Perhaps I’ve allowed a relatively small number of posts to cloud my judgement, but our pass protection was generally solid against UW. My rewatch was a cut up on ESPN, and they did cut probably our worst plays in that regard. For comparison UM gave up 2 sacks to UW like us. They gave up 9 pressures out of around 25 dropbacks. We had 14 pressures out of about 50 dropbacks. QE was under pressure 27% of the time as compared to 31% for JJ. One sack against us was equal parts QB too. The last play was mischaracterized a bit too. The two outside guys for UW basically ran upfield and took themselves out of the play.
  19. Exactly how many best minds do you think there are?
  20. I believe the tuck rule preceded a 45 yarder in the snow. If he misses its game over most likely. That same season they won at Pitt. Brady got hurt after having led the offense to 0 points prior to his exit. They won the AFC championship game without him essentially. Special teams I believe scored twice. The offense/special teams outscored the defense 13-7 in that first Super Bowl. The defense created 3 turnovers. The offense generated 267 yards. Vinatieri hit a 48 yarder to win it. They lost to the Giants due to those low percentage completions from Eli but also because the offense didn’t do the job. Since January 13, 1975, there have only been 2 teams win scoring less than 20. The Giants over the Pats. And the Pats over the Rams. And the Pats scored a measly 17 in the other loss. And if you want to talk impossible passes, credit Edelman for his incredible catch versus the Falcons. There have been 10 Super Bowls, 6 of which were in the first 9 games, in which the losing team did not reach double digits. So in 4 of almost the last 50 games the loser scored 9 or less. Brady was the winning QB two of those 4 times. Tell me again who this one man responsible is?
  21. Good question. I have wondered how the Bills franchise goes if they hit the game winner against the Giants. With each subsequent Super Bowl, they got worse. And negative plays/events seem to snowball.
  22. Tampa was loaded. Brady is not dumb. The defense harassed the hell out of Mahomes. Four turnovers created versus the Saints. Bill had the Cleveland Browns as the 3rd best team in the NFL one year. I’m sure he had nothing to do with the Rams scoring 3 points in the Super Bowl. Or that the D scored and held the greatest show on turf to well below expectations. They did it together. Just like everybody else Bill probably lost a bit as he aged and his assistants kept revolving but to downplay his greatness is ridiculous. In the last 40 years, only 5 teams have won it scoring 20 points or less. Two of those wins were the Patriots. One of those losses was the Patriots. The fewest points scored in a Super Bowl win - the Patriots. The fewest points given up in a Super Bowl - the Patriots and Cowboys (1972). The Jets, Bills, Dolphins were generally trash during that time too so that was helpful. Matt Cassell of USC fame led them to 10 wins one season even though it amounted to nothing. The tuck rule was bs. Lots of great defense. Lots of underappreciated players. That’s largely Bill.
  23. Perhaps but from my way high up seats the immediate fumble recovery chaps my ass most. And maybe I’m immune to holding to an extent as this has been to us for years, particularly at the hands of OU.
  24. Don’t take my comment as feeling sorry for them. But it was impactful.
