  1. I’ll take it too if interested. Odds in your favor as I failed on my football team prediction.
  2. More than 6 not just 6, right?
  3. So you’re saying Dan Marino won 23 games as a senior high school player? That may be his most incredible stat.
  4. I just watched Moneyball for the first time the other day yet I was annoyed often with the bunting so I’m not sure if I fit your group or not. And I’m not anti-bunting. We didn’t hit and run or attempt to steal enough for my tastes. That may be the key to this years offense - movement on the base paths. I do think Augie was more aggressive come post-season though, which is preferable. In-game strategy is somewhat of crapshoot in baseball as it comes back to who makes the man versus man play. I always gave Augie more credit for his pregame preparation than in game strategy. At least offensively. Sorry, Chris Carmichael in 2002 doesn’t change that. Getting that mindset right is more important anyway cause that’ll get you through some strategery decisions. Two games is not enough to tell us much for this season. Long way to go. Baseball always has up and downs. It’ll be interesting to see how it plays out.
  5. Those may be the worst looking helmets ever.
  6. Yep. And if one wanted to argue for arguments sake, two 1 run games and battling back were the ideal results. Now, they can say to themselves, we can hang but have to cut down on mistakes and play consistent baseball.
  7. Do I think he’s winning a Super Bowl? No, but you get to the final 4 in the conference in year 1 with your new coach and coming out of a tough division, then that’s good progression. Jones has weathered the early years storm that many don’t. Poor play, coaching all around him. He’s a very capable runner. His arm is strong enough. He’s a smart dude. This may have been his first year that was conducive for success. I suspect they’ll be behind Dallas and the Eagles, but that depends on building out the roster. Washington has some talent too. There will be no divisional gimme games for the Giants. We shall see. Ultimately he needs to not chase the biggest contract but find who’ll build that roster around him. And if you’re a QB, Daboll has to be one of your top choices.
  8. I don’t get into the contracts that many of you do but generally there’s a right price for keeping most any QB. The Giants have been poor upfront on the Oline for some time. Add in Daboll and I think Jones is a legit option. I’d take him over any rookie QB and many current NFLers. But you could overpay too. If I were the Giants I’d be more inclined to let Saquon go. It’s not like the Giants WR room was consistent. If Daboll wants Jones, that’d be my indicator. I do think with system stability and good coaching he can be very solid for the foreseeable future.
  9. It’s an odd group. Two guys that really didn’t do much. One guy that may be limited because of his system and competition (in the sense that his team dominated). One guy who doesn’t have the greatest physical tools but has accomplished the most. You build the lines then go from the there. I’m curious to see the Daboll influence play out. Jones had his best year. Allen stepped back as his turnovers were more of a negative. If those trends continue, maybe it’s his influence.
  10. Hurts and Young are very different prospects and likely at two very different teams as far as surrounding talent and scheme are concerned.
  11. Gronk was so big that defenders couldn’t fight through him to get to the ball. He also was agile enough to adjust as necessary. If you could isolate him on one dude, that dudes in trouble. Gonzalez could go get it with the agility of basketballer. Big enough and quick enough. Kelce seems a bit like Gonzalez. And Reid is pretty good at scheming him for favorable opportunities. He and Mahomes are on the same wavelength. Their agility for their size and ball skills really are unique.
  12. I tend to agree here. I’m curious about repetitions. Perhaps it’s bias, but I grew up in what I call the shittiest era of football. Late 80s to early 90s. Stiff as board athletes that may be hard to move off spots, but agility/mobility were of little concern. I wouldn’t call most of them incredibly physical either. I’m not a Cowboys fan, but that was the Jimmy Johnson influence to an extent, on defense anyway, that transitioned to a nimble defense. This also was about the time people questioned why Texas developed so few QBs. And now look. Offenses started to open up and boom QBs develop. Perhaps in addition to my bias, I’m also a bitter aging fart. I’d say QBs today have thousands more reps, more pointed coaching and for those that are advanced more developed training methods. I’d also think more QBs of old were two way players thru high school that slowed development relative to todays guys. Yes, guys are bigger, faster, stronger but as you said so are their teammates. And their pass catchers also have the reps and training methods. Generally speaking as a player for whatever level it may be, I’d prefer to play in todays game and have the options of today than what I grew up with. That’s any position but maybe more so at QB.
  13. Yep. He holds the ball and tries to make plays. I just think in the end he won’t play long enough as those bumps and bruises will add up and/or he gets that unlucky shot that takes years off the end of his career.
  14. Yes, the Chargers have some talent. But they just feel like the Chargers - never getting over the hump and being what they could be. The Broncos D is pretty solid and some offensive parts too. Not sure why anyone would hire a Hackett to run things. The Raiders also seem to get in their own way. It’s not the hardest division, but there are some tough games there too.
  15. The Chiefs will have a difficult time winning more because there’s better competition and more playmaking QBs. AFC and NFC both have quality. Their division helps, but it’s not devoid of much talent like the Pats division was for a number of years. I’m not sure Mahomes didn’t play better when they lost to the Bucs. The difference was the totality of his team. They blocked. They didn’t drop passes. Special teams and D contributed. Montana won them and that’s what you want, but the AFC competition was somewhat weak. There’s also the game ending pick dropped by Billups I believe. But he did live thru the era of anything goes against the QB. That’s massive as I’d assume all QBs played through multiple concussions. If we are saying who’s the best based on their peak, it is Mahomes. He simply makes plays that others can’t. He’s pretty consistent. If you base it on Super Bowl wins or compiled stats, then obviously not him. Super Bowl wins he won’t get. Stats, we’ll see.
  16. This is a significant but undervalued point in reference to allowing the Eagles player to recover. Bradberry knows he’s beat and will run past JuJu without the initial grab. That same grab is not insignificant when JuJu is changing directions like it would have been had he been full speed. Then he grabbed him again. So he grabbed him twice, slowed JuJus momentum but also helped Bradberry change direction. In totality that’s significant. Juju was probably two steps away from the pass. It wasn’t PI, but he was close enough to the ball to make the hold impactful. That refs angle has clear view of the jersey pull. Then he puts his hand on the hip from the backside a second time. The ref did his job.
  17. The ultimate goal is the Super Bowl, but most often it’s the team that plays best that wins. The D scored 7. Special teams damn near scored 7. The Oline pass protected like champs. The D kept the Eagles out of the end zone enough. I’d say based on his first half dozen years he’s the best ever in their first half dozen years. We will see how the next half a dozen years go.
  18. Pete didn’t pitch as a lock em down Friday guy last year on certain weekends. I hadn’t really thought it, but I did watch Moneyball last night. Maybe you leave Gordon on Saturday. Then see if Morehouse can give you 5-6 Friday night. I was counting on Gordon to take that next step. You do need that Friday guy to give you a chance and eat innings. Don’t shake my confidence.
  19. Interesting thought. We’ve had lots of dudes open the past two years. It’d be a helluva study but I bet we’re bottom 5 in 50/50 win percentage each of the last two seasons. Worthy didn’t even do that well his freshman year. I’m always a hopeful mother so this is the year all of the QB/WR issues turn positive.
  20. Of all the terrible stats there, the 5 doubles sticks out. Doesn’t even feel possible.
  21. We should have made select members of the PAC 12 come to us.
  22. Yep. I’ve found football tickets too difficult to resale far too often. Some even when discounted significantly.
