  2. Five big announcements: Which players will choose Texas A&M? BRIAN PERRONI 85 seconds ago There are five big announcements in the next few days that all involve Texas A&M. Here is the latest on each one. -Virginia Beach (Va.) Bishop Sullivan defensive tackle Adarious Jones is set to make his commitment on Saturday at 1 p.m. Central. The 6-foot-3, 280-pound defender looks very likely to be headed out of state. In fact, out of all the prospects mentioned, he is the one I'm most confident ends up at Texas A&M. Jones plays just about everything for Bishop Sullivan but he has the frame to be a quick three-tech and that's who the Aggies see him. It is very likely that the standout defender eschews Virginia Tech for A&M and is on the commitment list by early afternoon. Jones has some athleticism that is not necessarily on the roster at this point and he could end up being the steal of the class. -Though he has not set an exact date, Memphis (Tenn.) Lausanne four-star running back Eric Gray will be announcing at The Opening. The nation's No. 3 all-purpose back included Texas A&M in his final five. While the Aggies did a good job on his unofficial visit back in late May, Gray's official visit to Michigan last weekend looks to have sealed the deal for the Wolverines. Barring a major suprise, I expect him to announce for Michigan. -Blairstown (N.J.) Blair Academy defensive end David Ojabo is one of the most intriguing prospects in the country as he is new to football after moving to the States from Scotland. His offer list reflects his potential. The 6-foot-3.5, 233-pound defender will announce his commitment on Monday. Ojabo visited A&M unofficially earlier this month as he was on a whirlwind tour of schools all around the country. The Aggies have done a good job with him but, like Gray, I expect him to end up committing to Michigan. Whether he still takes official visits when his parents are in the country for an extended period this fall is still a question, though. -Houston Madison cornerback Bobby Wolfe was originally set to commit today but, due to the logistics of the announcement, pushed things back to Tue., July 3. This is an A&M/Arkansas battle. Though the Razorbacks made things very, very interesting, I still expect him to choose the Aggies. Wolfe, who was committed to A&M earlier this spring before opening things up, was blown away by the trip to Fayetteville and there was a reason there was some surprising confidence coming from that camp. However, one of the Arkansas Crystal Ball predictions has already flipped to A&M with the announcement nearing. The Aggies do not have a cornerback committed yet so landing Wolfe is huge. -The run of announcements ends with a July 4 commitment by Fort Bend Bush four-star cornerback Erick Young. The finalists are A&M, Ohio State, Oklahoma and USC, though it is pretty telling that he has only officially visited A&M and USC. Young and Wolfe had once been insistent that they would play together before backing off those statements a bit this spring. Though they each made their own decision, I expect both of them to choose the Aggies this week. Young plans to completely shut things down once he announces as well
  3. New few days could be huge for A&M defensive recruiting ByBRIAN PERRONI 32 minutes ago Share 5 Comments Texas A&M currently has the No. 2 class in the country in the 2019 team rankings with 18 commitments. However, that total could go up quite a bit in the coming days. Aggie fans should pay attention to a number of scheduled announcements for college commitments, especially if they are fans of defense. A number of the top targets on A&M's defensive board will be making their pledges in the very near future. The first up is Virginia Beach (Va.) Bishop Sullivan defensive tackle Adarious Jones. The 6-foot-3, 277-pound defender will be announcing on Sat., June 30 at 1 p.m. Central. Jones was not a name on the radar of many A&M fans until recently. He took a trip to College Station for an unofficial visit and camp in the middle of June and the Aggies jumped to one of his top schools. Three days ago, his Crystal Ball had four predictions, all for in-state Virginia Tech. Now, with eight predictions, it is 75-percent in favor of the Aggies. He also has offers from the likes of Georgia, South Carolina and Virginia. Houston Madison four-star cornerback Bobby Wolfe was originally scheduled to announce on Saturday as well. However, due to logistics, he has now pushed his back to Tue., July 3. Wolfe was a one-time A&M commit, pledging to the Aggies in early February before opening things up not long after. However, A&M has remained as one of his top schools since then. The 6-foot-1, 180-pound defender recently officially visited Arkansas and there are a few Crystal Ball picks for the Razorbacks. However, 81 percent of the predictions are for Wolfe to end up back on the Aggie commit list. He also named Ole Miss as his third finalist. The day after Wolfe announces, his best friend plans to as well. Fort Bend (Texas) Bush four-star cornerback Erick Young has a final four of A&M, Ohio State, Oklahoma and USC. He took his official visit to Aggieland in April and was at USC this past weekend. He has not officially visited the other two programs. The nation's No. 105 overall prospect, the 6-foot, 206-pound defender has 100 percent of his Crystal Ball predictions for A&M. All 16 people expect him to announce for the Aggies when he does so on Wed., July 4. One other defensive target also has a planned announcement this coming week as well. Blairstown (N.J.) Blair Academy defensive end David Ojabo has set a date of Mon., July 2 for his commitment. From Scotland, Ojabo recently took an unofficial visit to A&M with his parents. However, Michigan is trending heavily on the Crystal Ball for the 6-foot-4.5, 233-pound defender with the Wolverines having 90 percent of the Crystal Ball predictions. If A&M is able to land the three players that it is favored to per the Crystal Ball - Jones, Wolfe and Young - it would be a huge haul for the Aggies. They do not currently have a cornerback committed but landing a pair of four-stars in a two-day span would answer the big questions there. Jones would join four-star Josh Ellison as the pure defensive tackles on the Aggie commit list. Also, already having 21 commitments at the beginning of July would allow the staff to put a lot of energy into landing the few remaining top targets as all of the current commits are expected to sign in December's early signing period
  4. Karen has been MIA since Friday from Hamm's little Facebook group.
  5. Perroni Katy (Texas) Mayde Creek defensive end Marcus Stripling is one of the top targets left uncommitted in the state of Texas. The 6-foot-3, 260-pound defender has offers from all over the country and wants to take some official visits before committing. "I had thought about committing early but I think I'm going to wait now," the nation's No. 145 overall prospect said. "I want to use my official visits. I want to go on my trips and see what each school has to offer. I haven't used any yet, so I'm going to take them during the season." Stripling says he knows which five schools will likely receive those visits. "I'm going to go to A&M, Alabama, Texas, OU and Syracuse," he said. "Syracuse is new but they're in New York, so I want to check them out." Stripling says he is in regular contact with the A&M coaching staff. "They think I'm very versatile," he said. "They said I could play the three-tech or play and be like Von Miller. I could stand up, put my hand down, whatever. I like that they're willing to use me in a lot of ways." The coaches are not the only ones recruiting Stripling for the Aggies. A few incoming freshman have been as well. "Max Wright and Leon (O'Neal) are always talking to me," Stripling said, laughing. "Those guys love A&M. They want everybody to go to A&M." Stripling will be in action this coming weekend at The Opening Finals in Frisco.
  6. An FSU commit named Derek Hunter who deleted his committed tweet. He is still committed to the Seminoles She evidently started ripping the kid. A lot of her post were deleted on the FSU board.

  8. Doing the math: Catching Bama in the recruiting rankingsVIP ByDAMON SAYLES 56 minutes agoShareBack in February, head coach Jimbo Fisher -- relentless on the recruiting trail since taking over the head job at Texas A&M -- predicted the Aggies' 2019 class would "end up being one or two" when discussing final placement in the 247Sports recruiting composite team rankings."We have enough guys that we think we can win SEC championships with and national championships with," Fisher said speaking with reporters during National Signing Day.Fast forward to now, and the Aggies are ranked No. 2 in the team rankings behind Alabama. The NCAA Dead Period is here, and while there will be no face-to-face interaction between the coaches and players, Fisher and his staff will be on a mission to not only maintain its recruiting success but also catch the Crimson Tide for the No. 1 spot.Alabama currently has 271.76 points, according to the 247Sports Class Calculator, a scoring system that allows anyone to add or remove players to a current class to calculate a projected team ranking score. Texas A&M is roughly 25 points behind Alabama, but catching the Crimson Tide can be done with the commitments of a few key players. The Aggies have 246.36 points now. Let's do some math to catch Alabama.Help in the secondaryLet's start with the cornerbacks. Texas A&M has two of the nation's best safety pledges in 5-star Brian Williams and 4-star Demani Richardson, but the Aggies are still without a cornerback commit. 4-star Bobby Wolfe, a one-time Texas A&M commit, is trending to return to the Aggies. He and good friend, 4-star Erick Young, would be solid additions and would benefit from tutelage from Maurice Linguist.Wolfe, a 6-foot-1, 180-pound cornerback, is expected to announce on June 30. Texas A&M is in a battle with Arkansas. Young, a 6-foot-1, 205-pound cornerback, has commitment plans for July 4. Young is on the USC campus for an official visit.Updated team score: 259.70Offensive skill-position assistanceThe Aggies have secured a quarterback pledge in 3-star Zach Calzada, and they have a handful of solid wide receivers in 4-star Kam Brown, 3-star Kenyon Jackson and 3-star Chase Lane. There's opportunity for Fisher to add a couple more players who can find themselves in SEC end zones really soon. One of those is Isaiah Spiller, ranked the top running back in the state of Texas. Spiller, the son of Aggie tight end Fred Spiller, is a 4-star talent who decommitted from Oklahoma in April. While the Sooners are still a team to watch, Texas A&M feels good about where it stands with the Aggie legacy. It also helps that Texas A&M doesn't have a running back commit as of yet.The Aggies have three wide receivers committed, but Dylan Wright would be a definite take as a fourth receiver. A physical specimen at 6-foot-3 and 205 pounds, Wright would be a major matchup problem for smaller defensive backs because of his size and strength. Texas A&M and Texas are among the schools battling to land him.Updated team score: 271.09Defensive help on the way?Texas A&M has 18 players committed in its 2019 class. Of the 18, eight will play defense. Adding the best talent to the front six of a 4-2-5 defense is something Fisher and defensive coordinator Mike Elko have made a focus.Marcus Stripling is a 4-star defensive end who has been thought to be a longtime Texas A&M lean. He's built a great relationship with all of the coaches, including defensive ends coach Terry Price, and he has made a few trips to the campus. A commitment by Stripling would mean the Aggies arguably would have one of the best defensive line class in the country in him and 4-stars DeMarvin Leal, Braedon Mowry and Josh Ellison.Christian Harris is a 4-star athlete who is projected to play linebacker if he comes to College Station. Once thought to be an Alabama lean, Harris is someone with deep ties to Elko (he coached Christian's older brother Tylor Harris at Wake Forest). Harris could make a commitment during the fall, and if he chooses the Aggies, he'll join the 3-star linebacker trio of Andre White Jr., Tarian Lee Jr. and RJ Orebo.Updated team score: 280.26The big questions of the uncommittedJeffery Carter and Javonne Shepherd are two 4-star athletes who Texas A&M is in major competition for. Shepherd is an offensive tackle who could end up at Texas if not in College Station. Carter, a former Oklahoma pledge, has a top four of Texas A&M, Oklahoma, Alabama and Texas, and it appears his race will come down to the Aggies and the Crimson Tide.During the spring, Shepherd said Texas A&M was a favorite, and he arrived at The Opening Houston regional wearing a Texas A&M shirt. Since then, Texas has made itself into a major contender, and the two schools continue to sell their programs in order to add him to their respective class. Texas A&M would love to team Shepherd and 5-star Kenyon Green together and also round out a solid offensive line class that would include Green, Shepherd and 3-stars Layden Robinson, Adrian Medley and Blake Trainor.Carter was once thought to be an Oregon lean, but when he announced his top four earlier this month, the Ducks were not included. Texas A&M has always been a team to watch, but Alabama has the best shot of topping the Aggies. He took an unofficial visit to Tuscaloosa this weekend. Elko is imagining the possibilities of having Williams, Richardson and Carter as safeties in the system next year.Updated team score: 286.46Landing all eight of those athletes would give the Aggies roughly 15 points more than what Alabama currently has. Texas A&M would like to add one or two along with any combination of the aforementioned. Among those interested in the Aggies are 5-star linebacker Nakobe Dean, 4-star Mohamoud Diabate, 4-star defensive end David Ugwoegbu, 4-star Jaquaze Sorrells, 3-star defensive end David Ojabo, 3-star tight end Jalen Wydermyer and several others.Of course, Alabama is expected to add to their class, which is currently 16 strong. Among the players very interested in the Crimson Tide are offensive lineman Clay Webb, defensive tackle Faatui Tuitele, running back Trey Sanders and safety Daxton Hill -- all 5-star players. Add Dean, Carter and Harris to that list, and it could mean a runaway team recruiting victory for the Crimson Tide.Texas A&M, however, won't make it easy for Alabama to keep the top spot by the time the February signing period rolls around. More importantly, the Aggies will have established themselves as a team to watch in the recruiting rankings for years to come -- just as Fisher proclaimed last February.
  9. Dead period VIP notes Brian Perroni 66966 posts 115 seconds agoVIP -Alabama had its big barbecue weekend and the visitor list was impressive for the Tide. However, one player that was missing was Baton Rouge (La.) U-High athlete Christian Harris. The 6-foot-1, 225-pound four-star prospect, who Texas A&M is recruiting as a linebacker, had once been thought to be a virtual Alabama lock, with an announcement coming at some point in the summer. He let his intentions be known that he would not be in Tuscaloosa a day or two before and Harris ending up with the Tide is looking less and less likely due to a couple reasons. This is the same subject that I recently posted about but A&M has done a very, very good job recruiting him. Mike Elko coached Harris’ older brother Tylor at Wake Forest and has made a very good connection with both Harris and his family. Also, for whatever reason, Alabama has not been after him as hard lately. Even if the Tide were still putting the full-court press on, A&M did a great job at the Aggie Elite Day. I am feeling more and more confident with my Crystal Ball prediction of Harris to the Aggies. I also would still not be shocked if he decided to end things a little sooner than his stated plan of after the season. -There have been a lot of questions about Houston Madison cornerback Bobby Wolfe and Arkansas feeling optimistic about a head-to-head battle with Texas A&M. Wolfe is still set to announce on June 30, one week from today, and it is between the Aggies and Razorbacks. His recent official visit to Fayetteville went very well and Arkansas was left thinking Wolfe would end up there. However, A&M did a good job of countering the trip, getting him on campus a couple days later for an unofficial visit and a one-day camp. Though Wolfe could throw a curveball, I don’t expect it to happen. I still believe he will announce for A&M next weekend. The Aggies are not taking the Razorbacks lightly at all, but there is also optimism at A&M in landing him. I also believe that, a few days later on July 4, A&M will land his good friend and fellow four-star cornerback Erick Young. Young is on an official visit to USC right now but I don’t think the Trojans are a legitimate threat. -There was some thought that four-star Mansfield Legacy cornerback Jeffery Carter, formerly of Aledo, could commit to Alabama while in Tuscaloosa this weekend. So far, at least, that has not happened and I don’t think it will. Obviously, that would be very good news for A&M. Carter has come close to committing to several schools so far but the one constant has been A&M. Look for the Aggies to get him back on campus after the dead period. -A few of you noticed that I put in a Crystal Ball pick for 2020 Houston Austin four-star quarterback Malik Hornsby to A&M. I don’t believe the dual-threat passer is close to making a decision but I think the Aggies have done a very good job of counteracting the fact that he grew up a fan of Texas. There is some optimism at A&M about the Aggie landing him and the camp visit with his entire family went about as well as could be expected. Things could obviously change over the next year but A&M is in good shape with its top overall quarterback target in the class of 2020. Texas already has a pledge from Hudson Card and, while the Longhorns are still after Hornsby, it is obviously not ideal for him to enter a situation where there are two four-star passers in a class. That is something that A&M is able to sell – Hornsby being the only guy. -It is already early evening and Houston North Forest offensive tackle Javonne Shepherd has not announced a commitment today. That would lead me to believe he does not plan to do so. That is good news for A&M as June 23 was the day that he had planned to make a decision. Shepherd has been saying that he will wait now and take some officials and it looks like that will be what actually happens. It almost assuredly would be Texas if he announced today. While there is no guarantee that changes, this definitely buys the Aggies more time with him. -I am still hearing there is a chance Katy Mayde Creek defensive end Marcus Stripling could make a decision sooner rather than later. The Aggies are building momentum and some of the top targets want to be part of that. Stripling has long been a very heavy A&M lean and I’ve been told by a couple people that he is strongly considering just shutting down the process without the official visits

  11. Brian Perroni 66822 posts 36 minutes agoVIP -Houston Madison cornerback Bobby Wolfe has a planned commitment date of June 30, which is coming up in less than two weeks. The one-time Aggie pledge has things narrowed down to A&M and Arkansas, where he officially visited two weekends ago. There is some optimism on the Arkansas side, but I still feel confident in my Crystal Ball prediction of Texas A&M. He made his way back up to campus midweek last week to watch camp and then ended up working out. He has bonded with the Aggie commits and current players and has been to College Station more times than I can count. A&M is looking for its first corner in the class and I still firmly believe that will be Wolfe when he makes his choice known on the 30th. The Razorbacks made things interesting but, from talking to multiple people, I don’t believe it was enough to overtake the Aggies. -Wolfe and Fort Bend Bush four-star cornerback Erick Young had long insisted that they would play together in college before backing off that stance a bit a month or two ago. For a while, it looked like they could go their separate ways. However, I feel good about my Crystal Ball pick for A&M with him as well. He and Wolfe rode up to Aggieland together last week for the camp and Young is also close with a number of Aggie players and commits. The two guys recruiting him the hardest are actually a pair of 2020 pledges in Smart Chibuzo and Akinola Ogunbiyi. Young does not want to tip his hand too much ahead of his USC visit this weekend – which will be his first-ever time in California – but says he pretty much already has his mind made up. Young plans to announce his decision on July 4, with A&M and USC the only schools having received official visits. -The other player I still think likely ends it soon is Katy Mayde Creek defensive end Marcus Stripling. The 6-foot-3, 260-pound four-star defender has been saying he wants to take his official visits but most have seen him as a heavy Aggie lean for a while. He has seen a lot of his friends commit and there’s a good chance he decides to join them instead of letting this drag out. Though it’s not a guarantee that he does so in the near future, I think it will happen. Even if he decides to wait, I still feel very comfortable with the A&M Crystal Ball pick. -Over the weekend, one of A&M’s top commits was on an official to Alabama in Converse Judson defensive lineman DeMarvin Leal. Leal has now visited both schools that he was strongly considering in addition to A&M so neither Alabama or Texas can get him on campus on official visits anymore. Though it is never ideal to have a commit take other visits, Leal is not one A&M has been sweating much at all. They are not too worried about losing him and they have earned the benefit of the doubt when it comes to matters like that. -Though he is not close to making a decision, A&M has made up a ton of ground with 2020 Houston Austin QB Malik Hornsby. The Aggies absolutely killed his unofficial visit last weekend. Tim Brewster is his lead recruiter and Brewster famously landed Vince Young at Texas during his early days in the game. That’s a very good pitch with Hornsby, who is also a dual-threat with a strong arm. Jimbo Fisher made a big impact on both Hornsby and his mother, too. A&M feels very good about where it stands at the moment with its top quarterback target in the class

  15. A&M recruiting: 3 things to watch as dead period nears VIP ByDAMON SAYLES 22 minutes ago Share 1 Comments It's been a productive spring and summer for Texas A&M from a recruiting perspective. The Aggies currently have 16 commitments and are ranked No. 2 nationally, behind Alabama, in the latest 247Sports recruiting composite team rankings. Of the top 50 teams in the rankings, only Minnesota has as many commits, numbers wise. The next 12 days, however, will be huge for the Aggies. The NCAA dead period for FBS football recruiting starts June 25, and while the class is looking great, it can always get better with the help of a few big-time commitments. The Aggies lead for a few prospects who could be making their decisions very soon, and they're hoping to close the class strong, both in December during the early signing period and in February for the regular signing period. The dead period, the designated time when a college coach isn't allowed to have face-to-face contact with a recruit or their parents, runs June 25 through July 24. A lot of the staff's recruiting success has come either during or after a player has visited the campus. As Texas A&M continues with the 2019 recruiting cycle, here are three things to keep an eye on, particularly with the dead period approaching. How will the QB situation play out? Offensive tackle Kenyon Green and safety Brian Williams are the 5-star prospects in Texas A&M's 2019 class. The roster, however, is still looking for a keystone commit to run the offense, a signal-caller who can be considered as a future leader. Zach Calzada appears to be the quarterback to watch, particularly after a successful unofficial visit to the campus over the weekend. Calzada was supposed to visit Clemson today, but he canceled his plans -- an advantage for the Aggies. That means Texas A&M was the Buford, Georgia, 3-star quarterback's final visit before he is expected to make a decision, which could come as early as this week. North Carolina State, North Carolina and Georgia are the schools to watch. If Calzada chooses not to play in College Station, the Aggies still have options at the quarterback position. San Bernadino, California, 4-star Jayden Daniels is a dual-threat option with impressive junior-season numbers. Ocala, Florida, 3-star Brian Maurerpicked up an offer from Texas A&M on June 5, and the Aggies are considered a school to watch, along with West Virginia. Both Daniels and Maurer were named Elite 11 quarterbacks. In discussing already-committed quarterbacks, two other Elite 11 prospects should be mentioned. Leawood, Kansas, 4-star Graham Mertzhas been committed to Wisconsin since Oct. 8, and while some believe the Aggies are still a team that can flip him, Mertz told 247Sports on Tuesday that he's solid with Wisconsin and is close to shutting his process down completely. Ty Evans is a 3-star, pro-style quarterback who has been committed to Colorado since Jan. 15. The Palmer Ridge, Colorado, standout is a one-time Arkansas pledge who has said he likes what Texas A&M has to offer. Although he's spoken highly of the Aggies, he's also said that he's still very solid with staying in his home state and playing for the Buffaloes. Will the Aggies score big with uncommitted cornerbacks? As important a quarterback commit is to Texas A&M, many will argue -- because of the youth and the current depth at quarterback for the Aggies -- that adding commitments in the secondary is the most important objective. Texas A&M has two of the best safeties in the country committed in Williams and 4-star Demani Richardson, but the program is still looking to add a cornerback or two -- or three -- to the class. Texas A&M, like a few other schools, is in a waiting game with three 4-star, in-state prospects -- Jeffery Carter, Erick Young and Bobby Wolfe. Carter has a top four of Texas A&M, Alabama, Oklahoma and Texas, and all four schools are legitimate landing spots. Texas A&M and Alabama are believed to be the two teams to watch, even with Carter being a one-time Oklahoma commit. Young is expected to make his commitment on July 4, and he has Texas A&M high on his list, along with USC and Ohio State. Young took an official visit to Aggieland in April, and he has an official scheduled to USC the weekend of June 22. Young has been somewhat quiet as of late, but the Aggies are hoping to be in a good spot to land one of the nation's most physical cornerbacks by the end of Independence Day. Wolfe is another player Texas A&M feels strongly about landing. Wolfe is a former Aggie commit who decommitted in March to weigh all other options. Since then, he's made sure to stay in touch with the Texas A&M coaching staff, and he has the Aggies high on his list. Wolfe enjoyed his official visit to Texas A&M in April. Arkansas, however, is a team that has gained major ground. He took an official visit to Arkansas last week and told 247Sports that the campus "feels like home" and that he has built solid relationships with members of the coaching staff. Who are the targets for interior offensive linemen? Texas A&M has three offensive linemen committed in Green and 3-stars Blake Trainor and Adrian Medley. All three, however, are listed as tackles. Texas A&M is hoping to land a couple of interior linemen. One of those linemen anticipated to be an Aggie, 3-star guard Hunter Rayburn, Medley's teammate at Pensacola (Florida) High School, decided to commit to Clemson on Sunday. 1COMMENTS Manvel 3-star Layden Robinson is a targeted lineman getting a lot of publicity. Robinson is a top-five center nationally, according to 247Sports, and he also can play guard at the next level. After picking up a Texas A&M offer on June 6, Robinson has been thought of as an Aggie lean, even though he doesn't have a timetable set for a decision. Interior linemen have been hard to come by. Branson Bragg, the nation's No. 3 center, has Stanford high on his list. Riley Simonds, who hails from Calzada's hometown of Buford, Georgia, is considering Virginia Tech, Florida and Missouri, and is expected to announce his decision on June 20. Throw in Rayburn being Clemson-bound, and it equates to the Aggies needing to put in work to find an interior lineman or two. All three, however, are athletes the Aggies have not given up on
