No they're not. And here's why: the "crimmigrant" narrative didn't actually matter on the substance. It never did. It had only one purpose: cover. "I don't hate him and want him gone, and gleefully smile when I see him slammed to the ground, bleeding because he's messikan....I feel all those things because he's a criminal!" No, they loved all those things EXACTLY because he's a dirty messikan, who is -- in the words of the President of the fucking United States -- "poisoning the blood of our country." It's all just blood and soil bullshit, everything else is a cover for that.
Everyone who voted for this shit is happy with this story, because it accomplishes the thing they actually like and want: fuck up a dirty messikan.
Stop attributing any decency to the people who voted on "we gotsta be strong on immigration." They know why they voted that way. We know why they voted that way. They don't cringe when they see a brown person - whether or not they are a criminal, whether or not they are even here without proper documentation - thrown to the ground, cuffed, and roughly shoved into the back of a van to be disappeared....THEY SMILE.
