I don’t think Sark should be fired this year, but this offseason is everything.
We’ve seen this before — 2003 with Mack Brown. We lost the Holiday Bowl, lost players, and people doubted the direction. Mack made real changes, and it led to the 2004–2009 run.
Sark needs that same moment. He has to look in the mirror — really look — and evaluate everything:
• his staff
• his scheme
• his playcalling
• whether he has the right people
• and whether he’s trying to do too much
Because right now it feels like too many voices. Too many hands in the kitchen. The DBs play one thing, the front plays another. No cohesion. No identity.
And we need to be real about this: Texas Tech, Indiana, Ohio State — they hit the portal right. They didn’t coddle players. They upgraded. And it paid off.
Look at A&M — they already had receivers, but they still went and got better ones. And now they’re a prolific offense. THAT is portal strategy.
Meanwhile, we played it safe. We needed RB help and didn’t get any because we were banking on Baxter — a guy who probably played 15–30% of the snaps all season.
You can’t be afraid to get better. Yes, I get wanting to develop your guys. I get not wanting everyone to transfer. But it can’t be the WHOLE damn roster you protect.
Sometimes you have to make hard decisions. You’re the head fucking coach.
You’re at Texas.
You have money.
You have NIL backing.
You can get almost any player you want.
We should’ve gone harder after Eric Singleton or Baron Browning.
We should’ve brought in another corner.
We should’ve brought in another OL.
We should’ve added a top WR.
We should’ve grabbed a veteran RB.
I know we can do it because Sark has done it! We’ve seen him do it.
And imagine David Bailey + Colin Simmons + Burke + Spence in a rotation. But we didn’t want to over spend so we could keep players like Wingo who can’t catch a contested deep ball or Jaylen Gilbeaux who is maybe the worse CB in the power 4.
Ohio State did that. We didn’t. Why not?
Competition makes teams better.
If a portal guy beats out your 5-star GOOD. That’s how the best programs are built.
But Sark was scared to upset the room. Scared to make players leave.
That’s not how you win in 2024.
Players won’t hesitate to leave for money so why are we scared to replace them?
And on top of that Sark has to stop treating this like the NFL preseason. No hitting. Light practices. No physicality. We play soft because we practice soft. This is college football not OTAs. And I get it Sark probably was scared because he felt like we should’ve won the championship the season before but injuries happen but fuck you can’t go through life scared.
This offseason will tell us EVERYTHING.
If we come out next year and we’re still undisciplined, still soft, still getting bullied then something has to change.
We have too much talent to get pushed around and Fucking Kirby talking shit on Texas
No excuses left.
