  1. Note - ESPN stats are stupid. Someone needs to tell them that winning 2/3 break points is NOT better than winning 5/9 even though 2/3 is the higher %.
  2. Pegula played 2 solid sets of tennis. Barbora looked mentally tired. She hit the ball OK but it just seemed she didn't have much left. Her serving numbers were atrocious (42% first serve % and only winning 31% of 2nd serve points). Pegula took advantage of those missed first serves - she won more points on Barbora's serve 34/62. I watched the Alcaraz match as well. Video game savant is a great way to describe the way he is playing right now. I predict Novak calls the doctor out multiple times. I think he did that one time playing Carlos and it got under his skin. He played a set acting like he couldn't hardly move and finished the match getting to everything.
  3. I watched the Coco vs Osaka match. With Osaka up 5-3 in the first set, ESPN showed a stat indicating Osaka had hit every forehand cross court except for 2. As the match progressed, I noticed she was hitting the forehands to both sides. I also saw Coco try to run around her forehand to hit a backhand and then be out of position for the next shot (repeatedly). It was a complete dismantling of Coco's forehand. I give huge props to Osaka!!!! Coco hired the coach that fixed the second serve woes of Tigress. I didn't notice her serve being a huge issue but maybe that was because of the forehand failure. Either way, that coach has some work to do.
  4. I was looking forward to that one. 1 & 2 in 62 minutes is a beating. Still looking forward to the other Emma vs Barbora. Emma is the #10 seed and I'm not sure I would even make her the favorite.
  5. Iga gets past Tauson relatively easily (4&1). Sinner in a big hole down 2 sets to 0.
  6. Bagel served up by Aryna. Impressive!!!
  7. Aryna gets an early break of serve - up 3-0.
  8. Iga grabs set #2 (6-4). Iga must be playing better. I watched her first round match and again when she played Rybakina. I wasn't impressed with either of those matches.
  9. I watched the Andreeva vs Boisson match last night. Andreeva had her chances but the crowd got to her big time. She was up 5-3 in the first set and 3-0 in the second (lost 6 games in a row to close out the match). The crowd was somewhat neutral or slightly biased at the beginning of the match. By the end, it was a Davis Cup type match. Andreeva showed she is still a teenager. At one point she blasted a ball into the stands. I can't imagine what it is like to miss a critical shot badly and have 15,000 people erupt in applause. The umpire couldn't do anything. I'm not sure what "Merci" means in French but I think it is "Yell when the opponent is about to serve". At one point in the second set the announcer (not Chris Evert) asks Sloane Stevens if the crowd is pretty neutral. Sloane politely said "No". I was thinking what match are you watching. Gauff better jump on Boisson and take the crowd out of it. Every game Boisson won in the second set, the crowd got more into it and more rowdy. Zverev is still chasing down drop shots in his sleep. Novak hit 35 of them. I never saw Zverev adjust to it. The longer the match went the better Novak played and the more tentative Zverev played. I expect Coco and Aryna to be playing in the final. If it is Iga and Lois, Iga will need her psychologist.
  10. Rybakina about to beat JO for the privilege of pounding Iga in the next round.
  11. Apparently winning the first 2 sets can be bad - see Tommy Paul yesterday and today.
  12. Ruud is gone. Lost the last 2 sets 1 and 0. TNT just showed the end of the match and said he was dealing with a knee injury.
  13. Ruud is in trouble - down 0-3 in the fourth and down 2 sets to 1.
  14. Anisimova with an 0 and 2 knockout of Golubic in under an hour. Impressive. Dolehide plays Ostapenko later. Interesting to see how fast some of those balls are hit.
  15. Coco wins the first 6-1. Interested to see if she continues the dominance or do we get the "WTA Special" and Iga wins the second easily.
