  1. Bagel served up by Aryna. Impressive!!!
  2. Aryna gets an early break of serve - up 3-0.
  3. Iga grabs set #2 (6-4). Iga must be playing better. I watched her first round match and again when she played Rybakina. I wasn't impressed with either of those matches.
  4. I watched the Andreeva vs Boisson match last night. Andreeva had her chances but the crowd got to her big time. She was up 5-3 in the first set and 3-0 in the second (lost 6 games in a row to close out the match). The crowd was somewhat neutral or slightly biased at the beginning of the match. By the end, it was a Davis Cup type match. Andreeva showed she is still a teenager. At one point she blasted a ball into the stands. I can't imagine what it is like to miss a critical shot badly and have 15,000 people erupt in applause. The umpire couldn't do anything. I'm not sure what "Merci" means in French but I think it is "Yell when the opponent is about to serve". At one point in the second set the announcer (not Chris Evert) asks Sloane Stevens if the crowd is pretty neutral. Sloane politely said "No". I was thinking what match are you watching. Gauff better jump on Boisson and take the crowd out of it. Every game Boisson won in the second set, the crowd got more into it and more rowdy. Zverev is still chasing down drop shots in his sleep. Novak hit 35 of them. I never saw Zverev adjust to it. The longer the match went the better Novak played and the more tentative Zverev played. I expect Coco and Aryna to be playing in the final. If it is Iga and Lois, Iga will need her psychologist.
  5. Rybakina about to beat JO for the privilege of pounding Iga in the next round.
  6. Apparently winning the first 2 sets can be bad - see Tommy Paul yesterday and today.
  7. Ruud is gone. Lost the last 2 sets 1 and 0. TNT just showed the end of the match and said he was dealing with a knee injury.
  8. Ruud is in trouble - down 0-3 in the fourth and down 2 sets to 1.
  9. Anisimova with an 0 and 2 knockout of Golubic in under an hour. Impressive. Dolehide plays Ostapenko later. Interesting to see how fast some of those balls are hit.
  10. Coco wins the first 6-1. Interested to see if she continues the dominance or do we get the "WTA Special" and Iga wins the second easily.
  11. Iga wins the warmup 6-0 and then splits the next 2 sets 6-7, 6-4 to advance. The Sakkari roll back time machine continues against Svitolina a little later. For those of you that play tennis, how many times do you have matches that end up with lopsided sets (6-1,1-6,...)? I played in college (lower level) and have been playing USTA League tennis for years and I have only had a couple of matches that went that way. Even then, the sets were more like 6-2,2-6. I do play almost exclusively doubles now, so that is definitely a factor as there are fewer service breaks.
  12. Sterns take out Amanda in 3. She gets Masarova next. Kenin knocked out Sun.
  13. If I was Iga's new coach, I wouldn't be blowing my paychecks on useless stuff. Ostapenko just handed her another loss and she is currently in a dogfight with Eala (ranked 72) in the second round of the Madrid Open. Eala won the first set and they are on serve late in the second set.
  14. I hadn't heard about the heat stroke at the Olympics. That would definitely explain her level of play. I got a kick out of hearing Chris Evert (I think) commenting on Emma Raducanu against Kenin. Evert said Emma had to talk to her coach every time they changed ends because she didn't know what to do. It came across as "How can you be this good and not know what to do?". Maybe that wasn't the way she intended it.
  15. Osaka knocks out #10 seed Ostapenko and her reward is getting to playing to play Muchova in the second round. Osaka looked good what little bit of it I got to see. Iga looked terrible going for a winner or damaging shot on the first stroke way too often. She piled up the unforced errors. Her opponent played consistent tennis until she had 3 set points in the second set tb. Then she lost 5 points in a row to hand Iga the second round. Dani was off. Not sure if it was due to this being her last US Open or what but just couldn't play with enough consistency to put Dolehide away. I hated to see Shelby hang it up. I've always enjoyed watching her compete even though she didn't have quite the same upside as the elite players. Shelby and Thiem both ending their careers due to constantly battling injuries. Thiem used to be one of the hardest hitters on tour and his balls looked average compared to Shelton's forehands.
