  1. I was at both those games (actually every home game since Alabama 1978)…. and yes, they were both insanely loud. The loudest I recall though was for the 2000 Miami game. My seats were fairly close to the field and you could not hear a thing for three straight hours. I love the renovated stadium, but I'm not sure it can get that loud any longer what with the multiple levels of suites on the south side. The loudest other stadia I've been to are Clemson, LSU, and Oregon. Michigan was louder than I expected; Oklahoma, tOSU about the same. ND and the old Orange Bowl not as impressive as I would have thought, though both games were beatdowns so perhaps understandable. Quietest? Hawai'i... but, hey, Hawai'i. Really want to check out the RRS, and hopefully DKR. I'll visit Kyle if we ever play them again.
  2. Yeah, when we were there most of the businesses had "Welcome Husky Fans!" signs in the windows. That was nice. Weird, but nice. (of course that's when they were having a mudhole stomped in them by a new team every week, so why not) They seem to fit into the conference well. Surprisingly, to me anyway, I think Utah's also been a good addition.
  3. I've done the Boulder trip - great place, although we were there in early October I think. We had the 11am (local) game so spent the rest of the day hitting various bars and watching college football because sometimes life doesn't suck. Drove up to Rocky Mountain NP the next day for a day hike, and the great fall weather quickly turned to howling winds and snow. Hard to say - lots of Colorado folks on the board will have much better info - but 11/10 may get you some snow at some of the areas. Hard to recommend Oregon. (actually if they don't hate you it's a good atmosphere). Utah is fine too, especially if you make a long weekend of it and hit some of the parks. I really do enjoy Pullman (although some years the drive home is a lot longer than others); it's a real college atmosphere and the stadium is small but not a bad seat in the place. Plus the folks at the Methodist church where we tailgate are always very nice and they open up the bathrooms so you don't freeze it off. Pos rep to them.
  4. If you plan in advance - maybe. Pullman only has around 30k population, including students and faculty, so if there is much in the way of Airbnbs they'll be limited. Moscow, ID is less than 10 miles east, but that's even smaller (and has the U of I in town). You'd probably end up in Lewiston, ID, Spokane, or Walla Walla if you went that route (Walla Walla is a cool wine town but not particularly close). If you ever do get out this way for a game shoot me a message.
  5. Hope you do - I'd love to see a game at Jack Trice myself. Iowa State seems to be like Oregon State is in the Pac-12: everyone's second favorite team (except Oregon's). The difference of course is that you care a lot more about football than they do, and perhaps party even more than WSU - which is saying something. Pullman is difficult to get to and impossible to get lodging in on a game weekend; you'd be best served flying into Spokane and staying there (it's 90 min. or so away). Of course if you make it out this way in September and can do a back-to-back, fly in and out of Seattle and drive the 5+ hours. The Cascades are stunning and you can hit some nice wine country along the way if that's your thing. Throw Portland in there and hit the Columbia Gorge one way.
  6. Ah - well, that makes more sense... a little more. I've just heard that line before and, well, you know, aggy....
  7. Oh, I think most networks would broadcast a trainwreck live if they knew it was going to happen....
  8. Some of the worst fans I've ever experienced as well (after Miami). Have been twice; first time I figured I just ran into some shithole fans like we all have but it was even worse the second time. I'm sure there are a lot of good fans like Parliament, yet it was certainly my misfortune not to run into any.
  9. Well, of course it is. Who needs those pesky extra downs when you can just throw an interception before you would actually need to punt? This must be another one of those things that they can't explain from the inside, because from the outside it certainly surpasses understanding.
  10. Wazzu isn't actually a bad place to watch a game, except of course the obvious challenges in getting there. The Palouse can be beautiful and Pullman is a fairly typical small college town. I'm sure SDG can give you pointers when you decide to go.... I've hit all the stadia in conference at least twice now - Bay Area usually just fly in and out same day when possible. They all have something around to do whether it be the city or the Western parks, don't they? (Again, probably excepting Pullman here although the Idaho Rockies aren't that far). Great conference for road trips even with the distances.
  11. Of course you do. Bastid. Sun Devil Stadium is my personal road trip house of horrors in conference....
  12. Shit, you always seem to win when it matters. I will never, ever forget 1990 - a bad Bruin team keeps UW from a likely first NT - which was followed by an actual one the following year, so even more disappointing. UW was #2 that day and #1 ND lost the next week - the Huskies went on to blow out WSU and then destroy Iowa in the Rose Bowl. Not the worst day I ever spent in Husky Stadium, but certainly way up there. That rat bastard Terry Donahue I believe had the only winning record against Don James amongst conference foes. (I actually respected and even liked Donahue, but damn it.) If both coaches stay in place, 2021 should be a great matchup. Hope it's in November. 😝
  13. Axe? Maybe chainsaw, but I'm gonna go with axe.
  14. Indeed. Long way to go for a home game, but there you are. Thought around here is that if UW loses to Auburn, even going undefeated the remainder of the way probably won't get us in. Lot of baggage being carried right now by both the conference and the Huskies. Looking forward to the trip down there in a few weeks though!
  15. All years are good years for college football. Except 2008. For me. Most of y'all liked it juuuuuuust fine.
  16. Cal's a fun trip (honestly, most of them are in the conference). Will probably go down there again myself this year. It's a shame you guys aren't up in Seattle again until 2021, though.
  17. Nah, mediocrity can beat up on each other too. More of a slap fight.
  18. This is correct... I think. The feeling here is that there's a strong likelihood that the Pac will once again be left out of the playoffs- Stanford and USC are also solid but we just beat each other up in this conference. It's what we do. I'm hopeful that by the time Stanford comes to Seattle the UW has figured out how to defend the jump ball to tall receivers. They sure as hell didn't know how in Palo Alto last year.
  19. He's popular here (was last year as well even though he wasn't going to play). Seems like a good guy and I hope he does well.
  20. Oregon is actually 7-2 in conference in your scenario, meaning UW wins the North on head-to-head. I can live with that. I can also see your outcome for UW, although I'll be in Atlanta the first Saturday in September anyway. Oh, and Arizona is UA... this isn't the Big 8 (NU, CU, KU, MU, OU - WTF? Never figured that out. Sounds aggy).
  21. Stanford is, as usual, solid. Glad UW gets them at home this year. While the Huskies return a lot and should be quite good again this season, the receiver corps is untested and there are some questions with the defensive backfield. One thing about the 2018 Huskies that is mostly overlooked is an unfavorable schedule - not only do they have only 6 home games (yes, the UW gave up a home game for that "neutral site" game against Auburn in the Seattle suburb of Atlanta), this is a season in which 5 of the 9 conference games are road games, including both rivals WSU and Oregon. That said, can't wait for the season to get underway!
  22. I didn't realize that about Coach Pittman (in my defense I was 4). Damn, that's rough but at least he was doing what he loved. Very cool that you got to know his son and hear what must have been some amazing stories. The coaching fraternity - especially at that level - is very small. DKR's replacement at UW was Jim Owens, one of the Junction Boys/aggy coaches. He did quite well to start (including 3 Rose Bowls and one of those dumb disputed MNCs in 1960), but I think the state of Texas got the better of that swap with the state of Washington in the long run.
  23. well not like that apparently... way to almost dox myself. Damn Surly with one edit allowed....
  24. Faroe Islands, bitches. Tórsvøllur Stadium - Faroe Islands 21 June 2018 (no, it's not falling apart; they're renovating the south side)
