  1. Diazes scheme never worked, he just had a bunch of well developed studs handed off to him from Muschamp or Robinson's first stint under Mack, can't remember which.... So you're saying these coaches that have 3 years to earn a longterm gig here are going to come in and not try to develop a scheme for the players they have; but instead, try to fit square pegs in round holes? They only have 3 years to get all the round pegs they need to fit all the holes.... If they had just went back and watched the basic defense that Ash had last season that was improving toward the end of last season, and implemented that, they would be sitting on more wins right now. It doesn't mean they have to abandon the scheme they want to run. They can slowly include it and build on it as they recruit the players they need for it...But, why abandon something that was working for something you think you can make work when you have the right pieces? That's just called being locked in and stubborn... I mean, I understand the fanbase, boosters, etc should be more patient and allow coaches to prove themselves, but that is just not reality...
  2. Maybe it's not the scheme, but the players fit in the scheme...Like trying to force a square peg into a round hole, putting players in positions they are not used too or cannot handle and hoping it works. Like putting undersized edge defenders in against Arkansas and watching them get lit up over and over by the Oline in the running game and not making any adjustment... I don't blame these coaches for the players they have now... I hope they pick a specific offense and defensive scheme they want to run, and then start recruiting players that are fits for the positions in that scheme...
  3. Crappy scheme, coaching, or gameplan does not excuse not trying or just quitting on the team in a game. That's all on fhe players...It's one thing to lose if your trying and giving your all, but these punks lose because the first time they get punched in the mouth they fold like a paper bag. They don't have any pride and don't care about their teammates who are trying. However, it does not mean the coaching is still good. The coaches should have the pulse of the team and know when there are morale issues like this and address it before it shows up big time in a game..I doubt these morale issues started overnight.
  4. Maybe you identified the real problem though, a coach can go on a real rant like that, but these days, can't do a dang thing to back it up because he might hurt someone's sensitivities and get in trouble with the media, the parents, the school, and everyone else... These players need to feel the pain and punishment of hard workouts from pissed off coaches for quitting like they did...It was embarrassing... Maybe the coaches got to get creative these days and find some other way to motivate them to do better. I wouldn't know what that would be though...Maybe just calling in a couple of them and flat out tell them goodbye, so long, vaya con dios, and you'll never play another down here. Let the team see you mean business. I imagine the team seeing another player losing a full ride to hit the transfer portal and not get any offers from a decent school might be a motivator...But who knows, it seems like a lot of them probably don't give a rat's ass.
  5. You're right that may not be true in 2021. I would have lost sleep over that butt chewing in the 80's and 90's when I played just knowing what was coming at practice...
  6. I doubt it. A chewing like that from a coach leads to the hardest workouts that no player wants. Talking Navy Seal hell week type nightmarish workouts that you don't forget, and don't ever want again....I guarantee he scared the bejesus out of some of them; especially, if the other coaches are acting just as fed up, and I bet they at least play harder...
  7. The point is Mack's staff could obviously spot talent and get them to work together as a cohesive unit and Mack was a good CEO type coach and motivator back then and dang good recruiter and glad hander....They rarely lost games they should not have lost in Mack's prime...I'd love it right now to be pissing on about being 1 or 2 losses away from the National title game every year like back then. From what I see of Sark and his staff so far is they can't turn lemons into Lemonade, not even a few of them.. They haven't developed or made any of them better and some of the players have regressed because they dont fit the scheme. They obviously can't motivate them to hold on to a 2 or 3 score lead.. Time will tell if they can spot and recruit real talent, they did bring in Worthy and the other Robinson RB so those are pluses...The defensive scheme is a total train wreck with these players and they stubbornly keep doing the same things every week. The offensive line is hopeless...
  8. Maybe not Mack, but he had some coaches working for him that developed some studs through the years. Coaches like Akina, Muschamp, Robinson, etc were not slouches as position coaches, and Muschamp and Robinson were good Coordinators. It's hard to tell if any of the coaches we have now are really good at anything. I guess you could say Sark is good at drawing up plays, but he really sucks after all his scripted stuff runs it's course and he needs to make in game adjustments..
  9. It's worse than that, even the guys that look good as raw new freshman talents regress after being at Texas a while like Caden Sterns, for example...I remember everyone calling him Baby Earl because of his play as a freshman. Even dudes like Foster looked hungrier when they first started playing for Texas. It's like the dog got coached out of them, or they just get tired of losing and quit trying hard at all...I think a culmination of that is what we have seen the last few games. The players that do have some talent are not having fun and just don't give a crap no more. That is all on the coaches to motivate the team...
  10. True, it is beyond strange that 70% or more of these guys are busts once they get here...Coaching and development is a big issue, but seems like there is something else beyond that in this program that could turn so many highly ranked players into crap... We were whining about Mack back in the day not being able to develop players with his staff, and he still made it to the big show. Maybe the school is putting to much classwork on these kids or something, just seems unreal that so many of them just aren't very good and lose their athletic abilities once they start playing here.
  11. Who is ranking these players in High School with 4 *'s? We got a bunch of 4 and even 5*'s that play like low 3*'s...We need good talent evaluation as much as we need a new head coach...
  12. Yep, this is worse than Charlie Strong bad, and I didn't think it could get worse than that. Maybe Sark will do us a favor and quit too...
  13. What's scary, the problems here are probably all of the above, including mentally handicapped coaches..
  14. So you are saying football in the state of Texas is the fraud? A lot of the players on this team were 4 star or above ranked players. I bet Gary Patterson, Gundy, Riley, Rhule, Briles, etc could find a way to make these punks man up and play up to their ranking. I think the soft culture at Texas is the entire problem...A lot of the players they get look better as raw freshman than they do after they have been in the program a couple of years...Something is turning them into panty waists here. Figure out what that is, get rid of it, and a lot of problems will be solved...
  15. DLine already sucking wind with hands on hips after 2 series...
  16. He for sure would not have got the defense gassed completely out in the first half, so yes, probably would have won the game...It's a real head scratcher why Sark didn't replace Card in the 2nd quarter with Casey. It was clear that Card was rattled and not comfortable at all. Oh well, guess all coaches struggle a little with benching QBs...

    Hook 'em

I never understood Mack's attitude about calling the OU game "just another game" back then. I lived in Oklahoma at the time some of those crushing defeats happened, and I guarantee you Stoops never let his teams think about that game in terms of it being just a game like any other game on the schedule. He ate, slept, and breathed thinking about putting an ass beating on Texas...He knew what OU fans expected and you could just hear it in his voice every interview they had with him on talk radio in Oklahoma... I hope Sark learned that lesson about Texas rivals after facing Arky and taking them lightly because if they go into the OU game with the same attitude, they will get a half a hundred hung on them..

    Culture

No joke, there is only so much coaches can do to fix softness in a football team. They need the players to step up and hold each other accountable...The older players need to be leaders, and need to be hungry to win...Hopefully, they have some players like that on this team because to bounce back from a loss like this you need those guys to be vocal and get the team working harder to be better..

    Hook 'em

Amen, they need to bounce back...Some of Mack's best teams had devastating losses to OU, even the 2004 team..They were called soft, and they came back and won a title in 2005.....The leaders on the team need to step up and get vocal, and the coaches need to make some adjustments. Second game with a new offense and defense. There was bound to be growing pains...The next few games will prove if this staff is any good or not... In the famous words of VY, I hope they let their nuts hang this next few weeks and put this loss way behind them...

    Culture

I think the problem with UT Football versus the BAMA's, OU's, and Ohio State's of the world is they get a bunch of dudes that aspire to play school while enjoying playing football. They need a few more of the dude's that aspire to play football while using the school as a front...Im saying they need a few more dudes with attitudes like Studdard and Sendlien...They need the men that seem dangerous enough when they tell another player to pull his head out of his ass, the other player listens...The coaches can't fix everything, they have to have those types of leaders on the team that rule the locker room...They need the guys that give 110% all the time, that the other players look up to and want to be like or at least respect and don't want to let down...Maybe some players will step up after this embarassing loss and try to be leaders...Cayce has some fire so that is promising..
  21. I lived in Oklahoma City for a while and I worked with 2 OU player's parents. The players hate Texas as much as the fans do and love nothing more than putting a good arse beating on UT...That was back when Texas was pretty good though under Mack. Maybe they don't give a crap now since we have sucked for more than a decade...I can guarantee you beating Texas was a big deal to OU's players back then and it was all they would talk about on sports radio...It was like their entire focus every year was stomping a mudhole in UT..
  22. That might be the problem. If they aren't focused on getting good enough to beat their toughest rival every year, then what are they focused on?..It seems like there is something that keeps players from developing the talent they need to compete at a high level at UT that needs to be addressed...Some of these players come in and look better as raw/ hungry freshman players than they do after they have been in the program a few years and it doesn't make sense...It's like something takes the fight out of them after they have played at UT a while and they just accept losing without being pissed about it.
  23. Great, so we go from Herman, who was a noticeable improvement over Charlie Strong, back to Charlie Strong 2.0? I remember when the team would get down by a TD with Charlie, it seemed like an impossible feat for them to catch up...Like the wind just got knocked out of them because the other team scored first or went ahead...
  24. Im startng to believe mostly recruiting...These players get knocked down once and just give up...Maybe the coaches could teach them to be tougher and meaner, but 2 staffs now and same story...The players have to have some drive or ambition to get better and just seems like a lot of them aren't trying or don't care too much about losing...Maybe it's just the culture too...Seems like Texas has had the soft label for years, even some of the years Mack had them winning 10 games, they were somewhat soft, but nothing like now..
  25. I'm not rooting against him but he fucking sucks. And if he's the best we got, then we are in serious trouble. This dude can't even gain a 1st down. Even a low rank Arky team doesn't even respect him. See what Casey has. Honestly, how will Casey fair any better behind this garbage Oline?
