  1. Surely she has a backer and that backer has property or money in Lockhart otherwise it doesn't make a lot of sense. Who know? Best of luck to her just seems like a crowded market.
  2. Agreed. I mean that town seems pretty BBQ heavy as is and with the new Terry Blacks they kinda have the alternative to the old school joints. You would have just thought there was better towns that are in real need of legit BBQ.
  3. Hit Reese Bros a couple weekends ago while in San Antonio. Food is legit. Ordered a 1/4 of meats just to try as much as possible. Poblano mac and cheese is great, ribs were fantastic and loved the homeade tortillas. You get to kinds of sauce, one is traditional and the other is kind of a creamy salsa. All in all would recommend; place is about two blocks south of the Alamo dome right off the highway.
  4. So is green spaghetti any different than the Poblano Mac and Cheese Reese Bros in San Antonio is serving?
  5. True if I order brisket in Oklahoma it needs to be chopped and sauced. That's why so many menus back in the day just said "BBQ Beef" as an option. Sliced brisket is not a thing in Oklahoma.
  6. Cooked this one last weekend in Oklahoma. Was a 12 lb prime from Sams. Put it on about 9 that morning, pulled and wrapped it about 7 that evening and put it in the oven until it hit 200 degrees. Turned oven off for an hour then set it to it's lowest setting 170 over night. Have tried the warm setting on our oven but after about 3.5 hours it will beep a few times and then turn off. I guess it will only "warm" for so long. I don't use a water pan in the oven.
  7. *Also hadn't been in a while. The new Terry Blacks is about a stones throw from Kreuz and is the first BBQ joint you see when you take the Lockhart exit off the highway. They definitely had that planned out.
  8. Went to San Antonio last weekend for the state tournament and had the chance to eat a few places along the way. First stop was Kreuz in Lockhart. I ate light, grabbed two rings of sausage and some crackers. This is how the locals must do it cause it was about $7. The original was fine but the jalapeno cheese one was the best. I thought the grind on the original was way too smooth for me taste, the jalapeno cheddar was much more to what I like. All in all good trip for sure.
  9. Alright I think the plan for now is to drive down tomorrow and hit City Market in Luling basically want to see that place and have the sauce I've heard so much about and their sausage. Once I'm in San Antonio I'm going to hit Reese Brothers (couple blocks south of the Alamodome) on Saturday for lunch and then somewhere in Austin will be hit on Sunday on the way back to Dallas but not sure where just yet.
  10. Had Torchys on Saturday. One taco, one chips and queso and it was $17. I can't be doing that. I'm outpriced. The meat on my taco was small. Gonna be a while before I venture back in.
  11. I'm under the assumption (and correct me if I'm wrong) that Burnt Bean will sell out or whatever i would probably be in the area around 1:00. I hadn't considered Burnt Bean for line and possible sellout. Advise me if that's not an issue. *I have never been to the City Market in Luling so that stop would be purely for nostalgia and to market it off the list.
  12. Driving Dallas to San Antonio this week. Gonna take toll road around Austin; last time I did this I went to Blacks in Lockhart (had never been) and this time I'm considering stoppng at Luling City Market. Thumbs up on Luling City market? Gonna try and hit Reese (sp) Brothers in San Antonio on Saturday.
  13. I stil think for BBQ joints it's serve BBQ lunch until sell out then in the evening is the burgers, tacos, etc. You can have smoked chicken, sausage etc until close cause those are easy to cook.
  14. Terry Blacks getting $29.95 a lb for ribs now is mind blowing.
  15. So if you guys go to a bbq restaurant and get a side of beans do you prefer like a pinto bean with onion etc, (I'd call it a cowboy bean) or would you prefer a baked beans? Little BBQ joint by my house only has two sides with their dinners. Potato salad and some baked beans and dang it's a good combo. Now if I'm sitting down for a bunch of beans i want pintos and cornbread
  16. Made the drive out to Longview to check on Sunbird this weekend. They are set up just outside the Hyundai dealer there. It's a to go place only right now as they don't have any tables, etc. People didn't seem to mind though as business was brisk. They have a lease on a building and are hoping to be in soon. I had some chicken spaghetti, some al pastor pork belly burnt ends and a brisket melt. The brisket melt is basically a chopped beef will grilled onions and jalapenos chopped into it and it was dynamite. Everything was good.
  17. Sounds like an excellent trip to Snows. Glad you enjoyed that adventure.
  18. Well after asking for suggestions last week we ended up at LM. Had been about five years since I was there. They had added a patio since last i was there but nobody was using it. I went with two friends they had never had a beef ribs so I ordered that, two sausages and a tea $74. Buddies ordered brisket, sausage and ribs. Their ribs are $26 a lb which is insane to me. They ordered three ribs and it was $22. $199 sampler is available. At the end of the day it's Louie Muellers and it's worth the money if you only get there every few years for the ambiance of the joint.
  19. I wonder what happened at Brett's? Place always seemed busy. I know he was elected mayor of Rockdale about a year ago, wonder if other opportunities popped up or what. I like his place cause it was unique.
  20. https://www.dallasnews.com/food/restaurant-news/2023/02/15/hutchins-barbeque-owner-sues-dad-and-brother-over-name-of-new-north-texas-restaurant/#:~:text=Roy Hutchins started the family's,Texas since they were young.
  21. Headed to Bartlett, TX from Dallas on Saturday. Any recommendations around there for BBQ? Taylor is 17 miles south but we will be hauling a livestock trailer and not sure they are gonna want to go down there and back after loading. Anything else special in the area? We very well might end up at LM, but just looking at othe options. I know Miller in Belton and Guess/Helberg in Waco are on the way back. Thoughts?
  22. If I'm hitting original Blacks I want sausage, sauce and some crackers. That's what I thought impressed me.
  23. "Terry Blacks" as far as i know is in Austin, Dallas and soon Waco. They are members of the family but are estranged from the original Blacks BBQ. I haven't had a bad meal at Terry Blacks yet. Ate in Austin once and several times in Dallas.
