  1. Future fans will see the high recruiting ranking and think this was a no brainer, par for the course outcome. His original recruiting ranking doesn’t tell the full story here. Easily overranked with a body type that was too big and slow to play edge and too skinny and slight to play inside. Languished for years under a shitty staff without a clear plan and direction. Finally got some good coaches and began to develop, but no one (in or out of the team) gave him a shot to make the league (rightfully so at the time). Got married, missed the spring game because of it. And just when folks were ready to write him off he hit the weights and the practice field with a vengeance. Became a huge disruptor on key plays and maximized his frame. Helped get us to the semis. Wild ride, but glad to see it. 🤘
  2. Bobby and Gerry have also started throwing around comparisons to Dakorien Moore, which is an interesting development. Ignoring whether or not that’s slight hyperbole, it’’s a great comparison to make because Oregon already has someone in that role.
  3. You’re going to rate names and some how forget to leave off our 5-star with the best name of all?
  4. Have a friend in their AD so have some additional info amidst the current dumpster fire. Excellent kid and would be a culture fit here, similar impact to Trey Moore with better NFL measurables. High value on academics, but we all know how that goes when NIL gets big enough. UCLA is the favorite unless Texas blows them away or someone comes in with a godfather offer.
  5. Is there some scuttlebutt about the dad not liking Texas? Despite the data point about going to the Tenn junior day over UT, there’s still a lot to like here with the visit history and “at least 50/50” doesn’t read to me like the “writing is on the wall”. It reads like all three of these kids play the same position.
  6. This is a terrible take. One guy is clearly going to therapy and trying to move past this ordeal because holding grudges and being perceived as a “victim” is not a good optic in the business world. I’m not going to dispute what Moose is saying now, but the word from those connected at the time was that this situation was incredibly fucked up and toxic. One would hope that one would be able to mentally toughen up when getting paid millions to play a game. But shitty work environments have derailed countless careers in every industry. I remember Martin as a good guy and glad he’s moving forward. But sure, Incognito is basically the same thing and totally well-adjusted:
  7. Kamehameha High School might be the best high school name of all time.
  8. *Karl* Scott would be a great hire. https://rolltide.com/sports/football/roster/coaches/karl-scott/1077
  9. I was strictly speaking about the players as they were on that 2016 team, not the best version of themselves during their career. Obviously peak Devin Duvernay in 2019 and Lil Jordan in 2018 would have started on last year’s team. But even with better scheme and coaches, generally a freshman is still a freshman. In 2016 Devin Duvernay only had 20 catches…but he was still averaging 20.6 yards per catch and was criminally underutilized. Fucking dumb. I’m coming around to your view. I really underestimated / repressed the sheer incompetence of the Charlie Strong staff. Malik was not a good linebacker in 2016. But 2 years of competent development under Choate/Nansen probably would have produced a completely different player. They turned Overshown into a 3rd round pick in that same time period.
  10. Taking a look at that 2016 roster, there was a surprising amount of talent, but even so not many would have cracked the two-deep last year or this year. Starter Caliber: D’Onta Foreman (RB), Poona Ford (DT), Conor Williams (OG) Likely in the rotation: Chris Warren (RB), Deshaun Elliot (S), Hilton Hill (CB), Andrew Beck (TE) On the bubble: Malik Jefferson (OLB), Devin Duvernay (WR) A lot of players didn’t put it together until Herman came in. Despite having more NFL players than a lot of other teams, the talent gaps and the coaching were so atrocious that it didn’t make any difference. We’ve come a long way from the days of Jake Oliver and Nashon Hughes taking meaningful snaps.
  11. I’ve always wondered why teams don’t have a goal-line package of offensive linemen with strengths suited to the more limited set of play calls. I’m sure there’s a good reason for it (continuity, communication, etc.), but you see it for other positions groups (WR/TEs, DL, LB).
  12. Shocked at the amount of negativity that the mods are allowing on TexAgs. Usually by this time of year the masses have put the failures of the past season behind them and started guzzling the koolaid. Guess it is pretty hard to be excited about next season when your underwhelming defense just lost three defensive linemen that are about to go in the first two rounds in the NFL draft without any comparable replacements.
  13. Besmirch the character and discipline of Chacedahbag at your own peril, knave.
  14. It’s funny that Niblack’s atrocious blocking wasn’t even relevant because he couldn’t pick up the bare minimum of the playbook necessary to see the field. But seriously, why are all of the Alabama transfers so damn weird? Hall couldn’t handle criticism and had an ongoing jihad against campus parking authorities (which I fully support). Billingsley was too soft and weak to support a baffling level of entitlement. Kendrick Blackshire didn’t have the discipline to go on a diet and transferred out to UTSA instead of staying on a winning program at a flagship academic institution. Bond apparently had a room temp IQ, a bad attitude, and was so utterly inept at blocking that I was convinced he was sandbagging second down run plays on purpose to increase the chances he got targeted on a third and long. I can understand busting due to a lack of talent, but the entitlement and laziness just seemed so at odds with the myth of a Saban-lead program.
