I thought this thread might die. Olin's work has been pretty solid lately and Aggies are gleeful. But my man steps up into the breech!

Rending of coiffure! Let's see what Slim Pickens thinks:

    https://youtu.be/U4qIJkKy-00?t=114

And why is Olin referring to hair six times using six paragraphs of wit? He makes the case for Reed as the front runner for...well...you know. Let's check his reasoning:

    image.png.f9cc16a86d905eac23bbf0d9f07e9ed9.png

    The wins? You betchum.

The stats? The frontrunner (the guy in front!) is eighth. I'm sure Olin will show why that is enough.

The entire nation watching his Heisman moment?

    image.png.e931ed2de2601ccdb2901e828ff28461.png

That's a lot of people. But A&M played at night. Olin knows his shit. Let's check the colosal numbers when the entire nation watches. Cue night time ratings!

    Uh, Olin?

    image.thumb.png.30edb7bd7d44c1f37d1e98586a4fdbf1.png

I'm guessing they left off a couple of zeroes there, Olin?

And about that # 8 ranking for ND. I bet they didn't fall far after losing to those Fightin' Texas Aggies from Texas led by the Heisman front runner, huh?

    image.thumb.png.1fa8f3d2d7c2bdce515719bac16f7c79.png

We won't even talk about that holding no-call during that Heisman Moment.

So, how does your man compare? Stats, wins, Heisman Moment. That total yardage ranking (8th) must be dominant!

    image.png.89b18208991b412a1211fc2c015672ee.png

Yep. No softies on that Aggie schedule. Juggernauts all the way down! That win against winless ND trumps everything else!

Let's knock down another contender, you sly boots, you!

    image.png.7794773b79cdd95eebfa3a0d52a73797.png

Not nearly as impressive as beating the number 24 winless Fighting Irish who got out-fought by the Fightin' Texas Aggies. You're selling me on this front-runner shit, Olin!

    image.png.767ec6754e1d3dab6882920957370a49.pngPretty good, huh?

    You bet!

    image.png.86eb4c5da45ef37da0fbce8a1546ae28.png

    1. For God's sake, you beat UTSA and Utah State. Cut this shit out.

    2. Now #21 ranked Michigan which has two wins unlike winless, #24 ND.

    You're shit is weak, Olin.

    image.png.767ec6754e1d3dab6882920957370a49.pngAllow me to retort

    image.png.18a9504446e4fff4c125bc46746b8c6f.png

Allow you to go full Aggie is more like it.

    image.png.767ec6754e1d3dab6882920957370a49.pngI deal in hope.

    Noted.

    More Aggie-ism

    image.png.9e06ed3ee5a66ff3a671c83d3757b854.png

It's a play a lot of QBs make. It's only novel for Aggies. Just as you overstate the significance of winning away. Other teams manage that more than once a decade. Perspective.

For old times sake I hope we saved the Matt Mattox "call mama" play and run it 20 times in a row to open the game and bench whoever doesn't do their job.

Then, all starters - at least on defense - need to be on the sidelines after the first series after halftime. Heaven forbid we reveal our two deep to SEC scouts.

You want to bench all of our starting defense in a 10-3 ballgame?

To me, Arch is always in hero ball mode. He is looking for the touchdown play, for too long, every time he drops back. I also think he would do better out of the shotgun, and never turning his back to the LOS. He would never have his back to his receivers, and should be able to locate them much sooner. He could have his feet set as soon as the ball hits his hands. He just needs to become competent in the 5-10 yard range and keep the chains moving, and take the occasional downfield shot.

Grinding out drives will also keep our defense fresh.

    CHIEF

The first throw of the game he threw a swing pass out to the back and hit him perfectly in stride. The pass had some touch on it and he seemed loose. Every other pass from that point on was fired as hard as he could and he missed wildly. If I am Sark/Milwee, I am telling him this week that if he fires a ball as hard as he can he is getting benched. There is zero margin for error when you are throwing like that. Last year he was lobbing balls downfield and guys were running under them. This year he is throwing them all on a line, even deep balls.

  4. I am officially hitting the panic button. Why have Manning's fundamentals completely broken down? He missed a check down to Simon late in the game by firing it 3 yards over his head as hard as he could, and he was five yards away. I am completely baffled as to wtf is going on. Is it the yips? He was way more accurate last season. Why is he throwing lasers every play? This is shit that may not get fixed this season. I found myself wondering if Arch should sit down at the half. I have seen bad football, but that is the worst half of football by a Texas QB I have ever seen.

  5. I was in an airport yesterday coming home and watching some aggie dude in the boarding area wear a zip up hoodie with "Texas Aggies" as uncomfortably large as possible on the front. Then it hit me. In yet another classic aggie maneuver, they have chosen to boil the ocean of trying to unbrand the largest brand name in college sports and then rebrand it for themselves. When people say "Texas", there are zero people in the world who think about the Aggies. Their brand is "A&M". Not Texas A&M...just "A&M". When people say that, they immediately know who is being referred to. It is not a bad brand at all, but it is not what they are pouring money into. They missed their window to call themselves Texas State, which would have been a very smart rebranding for them. But now, they are continuing to waste money and look stupid by fucking the chicken of "Texas Aggies". A big rule of technology sales is to never reply to your competitor by name, because they have spent billions building up their brand to mean something. By not using their name, you strip them of all of that marketing power. But true to form, our competitor has just emblazoned our brand across their chests. Never change aggy.

  7. Wisconsin is like bad bad. Bama should handle that one fairly comfortably.

I expect OU to put on a show at Temple and curb stomp them so that they can divert all the powerball budget to NIL when the gooners get super excited that this is their year.

I think Tennessee is fools gold again. If you remember last year, the beat all of their weak opponents by 50+, but got shut down against quality defenses. I think the same thing happens this year.

I have a sneaky suspicion that SCar is going to beat Vandy. I don't really know why, but that is what I am going with.

It's Sark's philosophy.  He doesn't like dink and dunk because it requires higher level of execution and consistency.  His plan for college has always been to recruit the freakiest and fastest skill players to hit them in stride for super explosive plays.  When it is fully optimized, you get the Mac Jones Bama.  When you dont have 3 1st rounders with a killer run game, you get what we have right now.

In fairness, you could say that about literally every offensive system.

Comparing a third year player to a true freshman is interesting.  One, Alabama’s situation has nothing to do with Arch Manning. Arch is a college veteran who is just not as good as we thought. The reason I predict Russell starting at some point is he is significantly more talented than Ty Simpson and eventually that will win out.

It was merely a comment about guys experiencing true elite defenses for the first time in their college careers. Russell would have to go through that same learning curve. I was just pointing out the fact that the results may not look much different than Simpson in year 1. No doubt he has a higher ceiling and more talent in the long term.

Here's a breakdown of concerns from Tarp. I think it's a good article and he touches on some things that would scare me if ATM was my team. He doesn't really address stupid penalties, but those were also a thing last year and again on Saturday night. The Elko is considered a disciplinarian in ATM circles, and I've yet to understand why they think that.

    Highlights:

-ATM can't run the ball well and hasn't since the middle of last year.

-ATM can't stop the opponent's running game and hasn't since the middle of last year.

-The DL was getting blown off of the ball in the first half of the game and the LBs and Safeties weren't showing up to help out.

-Klein wants to throw the ball and deemphasize the running game, allegedly. I wonder how this is going to work out next week in South Bend with ND coming off of a bye week?

      - I'll have a couple of more detailed items on the game early in the week, but this isn't a contest that is going to spark much interest among Aggies' fans. Utah State went 11-3 in 2021 and since then they have been about a .500 G5 outfit at best. They've struggled to stop anyone over the last few years on defense and quarterback Bryson Barnes has a lot of experience (fifth year senior) but not a lot of success. They've ranked higher than tenth in the Mountain West in rush defense just once since 2021.

Overall, this should be another entertaining weekend for A&M fans so we will concern ourselves more with what we saw in the opener and then in the weeks ahead.

      - UTSA came into Kyle Field, had zero turnovers, just two flags, and out rushed A&M by nearly 100 yards. They had an experienced quarterback which helped them overcome communication and poise issues on offense (the same types of issues the Roadrunners had on a defense with 11 new starters when they didn't pick up receivers).

Playing on the road really wasn't the factor that it should have been for an opponent.

      - A&M is now ranked 15th in the Southeastern Conference in rushing defense and 13th in rushing offense. They're 15th in average per rush on first down. They held the ball for 26:19 which is 14th in the SEC. They're last in sacks.

Here's their rushing offense over the last five games: 144, 209 (New Mexico State), 167, 98, 151, 108

      Here is the rushing defense: 286, 122 (New Mexico State), 168, 240, 105, 203.

      Run fits remain an issue.

They're getting farther and farther away from the formula that they used to start the 2024 season 7-1 and get into the top ten.

      - UTSA didn't really try to get physical with A&M wideouts in terms of pressing them. UTSA blitzed about 40% of the time and since they didn't get there (one batted ball in over 40 drop backs) they had major issues even playing their assignments, much less interdicting their routes once they came off of the line of scrimmage. It's not a big receiving group and so it will be interesting to see what happens when that occurs.

      - We watched about half of A&M's opponents open versus Power Four programs and so we have a better idea of what those schools look like. They all played better run defense and a more physical brand of ball on both lines of scrimmage, even in their losses. Their quarterbacks weren't great throwing the ball but for the most part they didn't put their teams in big holes with multiple turnovers despite playing in hostile environments.

      - I didn't know what to expect out of Texas quarterback Arch Manning and kind of punted on the topic most of the time in the off season. On the surface, he seemed to be incredibly overhyped (Warby Parker anyone?), he didn't have many career snaps and throws coming into the season, and sure enough his game one performance on the road versus a top five opponent was lacking.

There is no substitute for game reps and throws. Look at the guys across the SEC that have about a season's worth of starts under their belts (guys that didn't get that experience had under 60% completion rates on opening weekend and three of them were five stars in the 247 Sports Composite).

However….Texas still ran for more than two yards a carry than it allowed in the Horseshoe. This I didn't expect.

      - Does A&M want to be in the position in 2025 where it's more passing game centric than most of its SEC opponents, especially when it goes on the road?

Marcel Reed, his protection, and his wideouts may be able to make that work in some circumstances. He is a very good game manager and distributor (zero turnover worthy plays per Pro Football Focus) and they're going to generate big plays due to the combination of his decision making and the athleticism of the folks he is throwing to.

Eventually, you would think that the offensive line and backs should come around and that A&M's back seven would get better.

But if A&M wants to be a playoff team, either those things have to happen or the Aggies have to learn to win shootouts with the passing game operating at a high level in hostile climates.

Are these guys incapable of writing an article without a Texas blurb in it? The Arch comment had no connection to the rest of the article. It is the ultimate game of diversion that these rubes fall for every time.

  13. I have some concerns around Milwee as well, but I think the proof will be in how Arch bounces back from this first loss. What I was most alarmed by is how Arch's mechanics broke down in some pretty uncharacteristic ways under pressure. Firing the ball too hard and high was a fairly consistent trend. There were a few where the pocket was collapsing that I can give a pass on, but tons of easy misses. The weird sidearm motion out of nowhere was hopefully not a product of running the Quinntastic quick screens the last couple of years in practice.

I set the over/under at 5.5 games before Keelon Russell is the new starting QB.

Im not sure Russell is going to be appreciably better in year 1 than Simpson. Sure he provides elusiveness and playmaking, but he will get put in a blender like Arch did last week against quality opponents.

Castellanos is so awesome that he was benched last year at BC. He is a baby when it comes to handling adversity. He pouts and quits. Wait until a team is containing him and forcing him to be a pocket passer and watch him lose his shit.

The reality is that Alabama was absolutely owned in the trenches on Saturday and then they quit. It reminded me of what the best Bama teams under Saban did to many of their opponents. FSU just made Bama excited to get on the bus and go home.

That OL is a B-A-D and FSU's front was eating their lunch all day. Every time I looked up, FSU was in the Bama backfield. It was somewhat hilarious. FSU recorded 3 sacks and 7 TFLs but you could have told me they had 10 sacks and 20 TFLs and I would have believed you. They held Bama to 87 rushing yards.

Conversely, FSU ran for 230 yards, averaging 4.7 ypc. Castellanos spent most of the day free to do whatever he wanted.

31-17 might as well have been 54-17 because it felt more like that watching that game.

I keep going back and forth thinking surely they are too talented to be this bad. Then I remember the Charlie Strong years.
