  1. Why don’t you go google the term, “necessary but not sufficient?” No one here is saying good recruiting guarantees winning championships, or even the conference, but it is necessarily to win at the highest levels. The data bears that out over and over. Just because your ignorant of that data doesn’t make it any less true. There will always be outliers on both ends. Texas has been a negative outlier because 1) Mack’s last classes were massively overrated and Charlie squeaked into the top 10 twice but then lost a lot of those guys before they hit campus—and then lost another wave in the coaching change— and 2) its had terrible coaching for almost the entire time span you discussed. At some point, Lord willing, Texas will get the coaching part fixed, be it Herman or someone after him. Whenever the coaching gets fixed, those same people who are saying recruiting doesn’t matter and it’s all a crap shoot will absolutely be changing their tune. Recruiting is interesting because it’s the most predictive barometer for measuring the success of your program 3 years down the road. Doesn’t mean it’s always right, but it’s silly and foolish to say it doesn’t matter, especially on a recruiting-specific thread.
  2. This is an unbelievably stupid take. If this Is what you actually think, then you shouldn’t be reading the recruiting threads anyways.
  3. Something tells me big game Tommy and his band of misfit toys, Beck and Mehrhime, need to worry about the offense scoring more than 10 points in regulation against the likes of USC, Ok. st, and TCU before they worry about giving Stanford the bidness. JFC every time I think about how inept our offense and offensive coaching were last year I get ragey. Time to get this mediation statement out so I can go drink. Have a Good Friday folks.
  4. It definitely seems like IT has the old news. Both 247 and TFB had recent quotes saying UT is picking up its recruitment with Carter and vice versa.
  5. That is rich coming from a fan of the school that hired two bagmen (well, a bagman and a bagwoman) in the last week.
  6. Lulz. The one thing I will say for Giles and the staff is that they seem pretty good with DL evals. I'd prefer they had to do less of them and it's not a solution to the problem, but I guess it's somewhat of a consolation.
  7. You've been kinda off with this whole gif thing lately. The CTJ sock theory is starting to resonate with me more.
  8. Lulz. This hits close to home. Stanford was probably my #1 law school preference during applications and they mailed me their form rejection letter painfully quick. I remember opening the letter and immediately thinking, damn, they could've at least waited a couple more weeks before sending this. Lulz. that would be hilarious. I'll be shocked if more than 1 of those 3 actually stick at corner. If the UT staff is actually willing to take Carter, he'd easily be my #1 CB in state. I don't even know who would be #2. I like Erick Young a lot but he's very likely to be a S. Huge, if true. With Carter (supposedly) clearing stuff up off the field and another top DL target off the board today (Hicks) making Taurean more of a take, this duo looks better and better.
  9. Since CTJ has retired SLX, I figured I"d do my best SLX impersonation and give y'all a good old fashioned recruiting analysis tl;dr post. As y'all know, probably much better than you'd like to, I'm not shy in criticizing the staff for perceived mistakes in recruiting strategy, but I'm not really tracking with Nahlin on this one, for CB or WR. Someone asked about this a couple days ago, but I forget who it was now, I like Caldwell better than Banks straight up and I'm not really sure why the staff had Banks higher to begin with. I've never been a fan of Banks and I had a conversation with Fud about it roughly a month ago when UT was thought to be the leader. I just don't see it with him. At the time I watched his hudl and Rivals camp footage and he looked small and stiff in his breaks. I noticed he's going to the Opening Finals, so I figured maybe he looked a lot better there. He measured at 5'11, 166 lbs and he doesn't appear to have the frame to put on a ton of weight. He ran a 4.54, which was actually pretty good for that camp as only one guy ran a sub 4.5, however his shuttle time was a horrid 4.46, which matches up with how stiff he looks on film. I also watched the Houston regional dbs v. wrs (embedded below), I only saw him get two reps (around 8:00 and 8:45) and he didn't do well in either rep. His SPARQ score wasn't great either. I'm not sure how he got invited to the Opening. Also, as a side note, Bobby Wolfe got 4 reps and got burned every time, just like in the Rivals camp video. I don't get his ranking at all. He's a CB who can't cover. He better hope he can transition to safety, because he certainly aint gonna fix aggy's CB issues. Anyways, I like Caldwell. His film reminds me of Davante Davis. He's got a big frame, he's a fluid athlete, and he's really good in run support and with the short wr screen game. He probably won't be a guy you put on an island without any help deep, but he can be a good player. Similar to Davante, I"m not sure that he wouldn't be better off as a safety. Also, 247 says he's 6'1, 171 but that was from the 2017 opening regional, so it's safe to say he's likely grown some since then. Regarding WR, I view the Jaylen Ellis as the Garret Wilson replacement. I don't think it's premature to 1) move on from Wilson or 2) offer Ellis. Maybe Wilson has a change of heart late in the cycle, but I doubt it and you'd fit him in the class anyways. Also, Ellis has gotten at on of offers, including tOSU, since we offered him, and I think we offered at the right time before he became another guy who resented his dream school for waiting too long. I view Langston Anderson and Payton Powell as backups to Higgins. I'm not a huge fan of the Powell offer but I also haven't seen a ton of him. I like Langston Anderson a lot. I like Higgins more just because of his size and unique potential. I think there's a chance that Higgins keeps growing while maintaining his mobility and he could end up being used similar to how the Saints used Jimmy Graham. I'd prefer him over Anderson just because of that hybrid TE possibility. However, if Higgins were to stay at WR (something he's been pretty adamant about), I don't see much of a difference between him and Anderson.
  10. Congratulations! This was just as successful as Nebraska's attempts to beat Texas this millennium!
  11. Hamm's schtick would only have a chance to work with about five schools' fanbases in the entire country. It's 5x more likely to work with aggy than the amount its likely to work with third-most likely to be successful with school's fanbase (which is an insane amount, btw).
  12. Damn. There’s a lot of good stuff in there. Michael Knight dropped a legitimate “we’re Texas.” cdt (RIP) defended taking a bunch of commitments at Junior Day because we’d lose them otherwise. Also, I guess this is because I didn’t read recruiting boards until the late days of Mack, but I’ve never seen that much deference to coaches. I mean I get that from some people when I don’t like a particular recruit or criticize the coaching decisions sometimes, but holy shit, that was like 70% of the entire thread.
  13. 1. You may want to wait until you can actually “settle” for this guys. If the schools you listed are actually pushing for their commitments you won’t be getting them. 2. The guy who recruited the Anderson twins is still there, so you can expect many more Anderson twin types, like most of your 2020 class and the rest of your 2019 class if you don’t get these Florida kids.
  14. Sydney Carton is your most commonly used sock. He's loyal, devoted, and jumps at the chance to hold your jock strap no that's not right, maybe gargle your , nevermind, we'll go with defend your honor. For reasons unbeknownst to me, you decided to retire SLX, which was the one you used when you felt like even your own wandering musings just weren't quite long-form enough. Finally, you've got HenryJames who you use to talk about UT baseball, beer, and your pretentious standards on taquerias, tortillas, and which types of peppers are actually good enough for people to be allowed to enjoy. I think that covers it but someone can let me know if I missed one.
  15. Yeah. 2013 was the nightmare class for everyone who recruited the state of Texas. Luckily for UT, at least, we only took 15 that cycle. aggy, on the other hand, took 32 in what was supposed to be a foundational class for their program that turned out to have guys like LaQuivontae Gonzalez and the two dudes who pistol whipped that guy they were buying drugs from back in the days when Sumlin was dominating the race for the Fulmer Cup. The 2019 class is going to need more time than most classes to declare a winner simply because there will be so many off-field/academic concerns that play out in the first couple years after they sign.
  16. Taggart will be in a uniquely strong position to negative recruit against aggy, if he even needs to. If FSU actually wants those guys, I'll be $hocked if aggy can beat them out.
  17. There are a ridiculous amount of character concerns this cycle. Good Lord. Bust rate will be high.
  18. So glad he's on campus! Do yourselves a favor and watch his hudl, titled "All my Victims." He straight up demolishes fools and is way faster and more agile than any man his size should be. I pity those poor LBs who had to face him when he's pulling. https://www.hudl.com/video/3/4038774/587c88b75b3cb03b40f5b9ed
  19. Yeah, he had some personal stuff come up. He used to be on the road every week to watch games and visit practices/camps. That was when he was at his best, IMO, but he's said he can't/won't do that anymore. I still like his football writing a lot, but he clearly has an article quota, which, especially in the offseason, causes him to write some real fluff pieces. 247 is definitely diluting the quality of his work, but they want clicks above all else, mainly because every time you click on a page there it has roughly 15 ads on each page.
  20. I am too, at least when he writes/talks about football. He's been writing more about recruiting lately, which I'm not a huge fan of simply because he's not that plugged in, so he's mostly relying on questionable intel from EJ. I'm not sure we should jump to the assumption that Taurean and Jeffrey are a package deal. I thought it was interesting Tauren is thought to be waiting to see where Jeffrey goes, but I don't think Jeffrey is requiring a spot for Taurean wherever he commits.
  21. Good call. I forgot about that change. I was thinking of the old dimensions.
  22. Interesting. I didn't really see that as an issue last year. We seemed to beat the teams we were better than and lose to the teams we were worse than, outside of a loss at OSU, but that will happen once or twice over the course of a season. We went 0-2 against KU, WVU, and KSU, 2-0 against OU and ISU (again OSU loss was bad), and then had a mixed bag against the middle teams in the conference. Sure, we had some close games in there but that seems to be more due to having a bad offense and not being able to separate, IMO.
  23. The 2014 BYU game - 2016 TCU game would like to have a seat at this table.
  24. Those alleys are a huge difference from the Disch.
