  1. Respect TUD but “by far the better script” is suspect
  2. Having a relatively normal human person in office means they work with others and follow direction, even as simple as an Easter Bunny photo op. “wait for the First Lady to be ready and when we cue you, please join the bunnies on the balcony. Then just wave to the crowd.” Now do that 10,000 more times, sometimes with meetings with foreign adversaries and intelligence briefings. Having Trump wing being President, like a strange uncle visiting for Christmas is not optimal.
  3. In addition to wind and sun
  4. Well Chinatown was nominated for 11 Oscars and the only thing that won was screenplay. I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt since Towne was writing for Jack Nicholson and McQuarrie for Stephen Baldwin. Though adapted from a book, best screenplay in this genre is LA Confidential.
  5. This is embarrasad. An example of regulatory capture. We really needed to elect that naked lady.
  6. Well part of “defunding” APD was reallocating resources to social services as well as responsibilities from APD so they could focus on crime. Social workers dont have a union so that doesnt go over as well.
  7. Putin - You should change Dulles Airport to Trump. His agents made life difficult for us Soviets GQP - Hell yes! Your commie interests align with our own - first Reagan Airport. Now Trump Airport. Jesus Airport in Baltimore!
  8. Had a Ford Escort that took a minute to get to 65mph. To enter 35 there…it was challenging
  9. In the playoffs it was a matter of ability. He was terrible and cost the Bills bigtime.
  10. Project Connect, taxes, and building costs have meant fuckall for Austin housing prices since we’re in a global real estate market. In fact, making it less profitable to own an extra home or build a new home has helped stabilize the market. Things like inflation and interest rates have worked together in complicated fashion along with global economy to shape our housing market. The other issues that need to be understood is the depth and breadth of the homeless problem. The first is that what we see being the problem is the long-term homeless, who migrate to Austin and can fit in one or more of these categories: Mental illness, addicts, or career criminal. This is a regional and national problem. Austin has little ability to solve these issues in the longterm. Where affordability really causes homelessness are people and families temporarily displaced. Thats your single mothers, abused children, termed foster kids, divorced dads. One or more Surly posters may find themselves living on friend sofas or motels. Guess what: you may be homeless.
  11. Or car backfires. Tell your son to grow a pair and enjoy the food trucks and chess boxing tournaments. Where was he when you were mowing down fools in Saigon? Right, slick!
  12. Not at the scale that its currently happening. After the 2018 primary beatdown, where suburban soccer moms abandoned the GQP, they redoubled the efforts to create crises at local meetings (city, county, school board, PTAs, churches).
  13. My foreign suv supposedly tops out at 160. My solution is to shift liability to auto makers and dealers for accidents involving speeds over 100.
  14. This trend is new when looking at the last 8 years versus the previous 80. Massive amounts of Christian churches are dividing mostly over LGBQT focus
  15. Between divisions over inclusion and being co-opted by white nationalism, Christian institutions are being further decimated.
  16. Horrific 3-pt shooting. All too familiar.
  17. Since some people have to wear mask due to immune diseases, you can either tell others “Hippa! I got Hippa!” or “Diplomatic Immunity!” and be safe from judgment. They totally will understand.
  18. Your response to Brisket’s post on systemic issues in police accountability is to not respond at all but go full on flinging poop post. Post less.
  19. Watched Fox Sunday morning news show. They were talking about the Russian terrorist attack then quickly equated it to the border crisis where it showed a bunch of Mexican men tearing down fencing and getting into with border agents. “It was a bad attack in Russia but look at our own border!”
  20. Preseason estimates were wrong. Hunter and Mitchell’s lack of development is the biggest disappointment. They are talented but were inconsistent. Hunter had a horrible game outside of a few bursts. One of the worst games I’ve ever seen a starter have. At times Dwayne Wade, then Ollie from Hoosiers.
  21. I think about Dogus Balbay as often as I think about the Roman Empire. He was an awesome player to watch.
  22. Good try. That's gonna last until next year -- you're gonna be in here regurgitating Gordon Wood, talkin' about, you know, the Pre-revolutionary utopia and the capital-forming effects of military mobilization.
  23. More book talk. I laid out pragmatic reasons why the movie Chani would be pissed and not your pretend book Chani that doesnt exist except in a different version. It’s almost 60 years old. It’s the Tom Bombadil LOTR talk all over again. “Moody, Petulant”? I saw a heart-broken, disillusioned movie character who was privy to Paul’s doubts and thoughts and felt betrayed. Your preconceptions are irrelevant about how badass the book Chani is. Fuck Book Chani. I hope she got killed off.
