  1. Again this isn’t appeasement. This isn’t hitler with the German juggernaut. This is Putin botching the Ukrainian invasion. He’s not a threat on the global scene unless you make him desperate like we seem to be trying to do. We weaken the dollar with our own actions. Whether it be over spending or over sanctioning. I don’t expect you to understand any kind of risk/reward situation though. You think it’s worth a 50/50 risk of nukes being deployed to protect Ukraine. I bet you’ve never been there. Never made any money from there. You have terrible risk management. Can’t imagine your poor clients.
  2. There’s a certain famous American that explained why we didn’t intervene back then. His words still ring true.
  3. Fair points made. But I would say that we’ve seen that Russia is not as formidable as expected by most. And by the time we decided to kick some Russian banks off swift and seized their overseas FX reserves that it was clear that they aren’t some budding Blitzkrieg about to happen. But we decided to really teabag Putin and basically wreck his country over it and we’ll see what he comes up with? That’s how we end up with 50/50 risk of nuke deployment for minimal geopolitical gain. It’s dumb.
  4. This is one of the dumber posts in the history of this site. Congrats You’re either a fucking idiot or are so easily conditioned that it’s embarrassing. You should almost never take a 50/50 risk of nuclear weapons being deployed by an adversary as a potential outcome of your actions. Much less over a nation with which we share minimal cultural attachments and has minimal financial entanglements (for most Americans). Evil didn’t have free reign. We’ve provided assistance and had provided for years before this. The way our media and political establishment is marching together makes me uncomfortable.
  5. I think your 50/50 odds is higher than what it really is, but do you think it was worth a 50/50 shot at nuclear utilization to protect Ukraine? That’s what I’m getting at here. Everyone is riled up in the rah rah let’s get ‘em but what is actually going to happen here?
  6. Exactly. You should always question why you’re being shown something on 60 minutes. Did they just have that segment teed up? I used to watch 60 minutes and take it seriously until I saw them fabricate a scene on one of their opioid epidemic segments. Was eye opening. Yes questioning steps we’re taking in a conflict that doesn’t directly affect us is traitorous. The conditioning has worked well on you.
  7. Interesting. Quite the background. What’s your take on the more aggressive financial actions we’ve taken like freezing CB assets?
  8. This is explains a lot about your experience and breadth of knowledge
  9. You already know that’s done. This was more for if our banks get tied up somehow.
  10. I just withdrew as much cash I could from my accounts via atms tonight. Already have some cash at home, but not a bad idea to add.
  11. Only because if you question anything here people flip out. I’ve just realized over the last day or so that most of the country has been whipped into a frenzy over this. I think that’s dangerous as well when we’re not under an existential threat. This isn’t China and Taiwan. Just my 0.02
  12. So why are we escalating to the point that Putin using nukes is being tossed around like a decent possibility? I’m rooting for Ukraine to stay free and Putin to get fucked, but why is this time different from all the other times Soviets/Russians have intervened in their neighboring states and we were more subtle in our actions?
  13. This is very dangerous. Freezing/seizing their overseas FX reserves, crashing their currency overnight. Aren’t those essentially declarations of war in themselves? They’re widely supported by governments around the world, but we will definitely be seen as the instigators of these by Putin. I’m afraid we’re going to feel some consequences here soon.
  14. I think we have to expect cyber attacks now as retribution. This is upping the ante big time.
  15. It really is true. Men do commonly pick a partner that is similar to their mom.
  16. explainer on the central bank actions. Not quite seizing assets which is what had my attention.
