    Dallas | Pizza

Was coming home a couple weeks ago from a meeting and wife said pick up a couple of pizzas. I know that means for her thin crust from Pizza Hut with extra cheese and our toppings. I was thinking Corky’s. I remembered Zalat had a south Arlington joint so I pulled into the lot and ordered. Walked in at the appointed time. got home and they were cold. The crust was awful, hard and tough. Like a cardboard disc under a frozen pie. Cheese on one was practically non existent. The other had little cheese but it was overcooked into cheese leather. Toppings were scant. Pepperoni and salami was transparent, shaved black olives (huh?), and veg were skimpy. $50 for garbage. It happens. I’m a retail veteran. Dude had a bad night. Called the store. No answer that night or any day subsequent. They have no public phone for HQ. They sent me a text a minute after I left. Sent the details. Zip. I wrote a couple reviews online. Got a robot response to one. Send a note to “support”. Sent four more. Nothing. I always am interested in how retailers handle problems. I might learn something. I have gotten those calls from customers: “ your directv installer is urinating in my kitchen sink!” “Your car installer ripped my leather in my Jaguar with his Makita!”, “your salesman is hitting on my wife!”. Things that aren’t in the faqs. Or SOM. Wife worked in the largest cemetery/funeral in Memphis. They fuck up. Bring the wrong corpse out for visitation. Give em a silly hairdo. Lose the cremains. How do you solve it? companies that try to automate problems will generally just fuck it up. I just want my money back.
  3. From outside this looks like the logical answer. It’s the way life works. Terrible issues usually dissipate. But once a person enters that world where suicide appears as the path to ending their pain, whether it’s brain chemistry, or emotional, or genetic, it’s a very complex basket of snakes to untangle. the “wait a while scenario” usually only works with strong intervention, therapy, love, and monitoring. And still it often results in failure to prevent it. I have a friend who’s 12 year old daughter did it out of the blue. Can’t imagine the guilt and pain. Several others thru the years who did for odd reasons that just destroyed their families.
  4. He played in a handful of games as he was hurt all last year. He was 24. High school and directional school ball doesn’t have the power in hits to helmet. Blaming CTE for this is delusional.
  5. Just awful. What demons get into a kid’s head as he looks so successful? The Cowboys have always done much to help their players with personal troubles whether Gregory, or Tyron Smith, Josh Brent, or even Kelvin Joseph. Jerry loves redemption stories. Like he left home intent on harming himself. Just sick gor the family.
  6. Kneeland news is tragic. No cause announced yet but this was a kid with a ton of potential. He was injured last year and just starting to figure it out. He recovered the blocked punt for a TD Monday night. A 2 star high school prospect that went to 2nd tier Western Michigan. Elevated himself into a 2nd round pick by Dallas. They gave him 94, which is one of their “special” numbers. And the media was very high on him as a person and a developing talent. Damn shame. the league has a thousand of these players that overcome odds and labels to make it onto a 53. I love these stories about the nfl and it’s a shame his story ended just as it was starting.
  7. Haven’t watched yet but how does Aarti and Crista Luedtke go twice? I don’t get Christa’s appeal to Guy; she’s is an annoying cunt. also, an unpopular opinion but we really don’t like Jet Tila. So fucking boring. We don’t like Alex G either. some of these teams seem really contrived. Let’s put the Asian chicks together. I want to see how Shirley Chung has recovered from her tongue cancer. Lady can cook.
  8. Thelma Lou was the secret hot one. She would have let Barney rail her ass if he’d known what to do.
  9. I always stay off Michigan and eat ribs at Carson’s. They own the ribs.com url. It’s evolved from an old timey Greek steakhouse, so my boss and I sit at the bar, eat shrimp de jonghe, and a rack of baby backs. They are heavily smoked, proclaim them “never boiled” which is an issue with yankee ribs, and douse them in a very good bbq sauce into a glaze. It’s not a Texas rib or a Memphis rib but still enjoyable eating.
  10. I had the Kenny’s Roger’s album back in the early 70’s with I Just Walked In. I never thought it would be the anthem for a drug addled dream 50 years later
  11. If you see this give it a shot. Dublin Bottling of the late great Dublin Dr Pepper. They can’t call it that of course or even Dr Dublin or anything similar or they’ll get sued to hell by Schweppes or whatever global Bond villain conglomerate that now owns Dr Pepper. 1891 founders vintage cola. It’s real sugar DP with a slight touch of more cherry. Texas awesomeness here. The lemonade, root beer, grape, and grapefruit are great as well.
  12. The best Oreo is a recent mod which ate the thin ones. Fucking masterpiece.
  13. Lashlee isn’t worth that kind of money. SMU is not the big fan base in Dallas, it’s dominated by Texas, Tech, and A&M. They are in a market full of folks from elsewhere who maintain their ties to Michigan or OU or wherever they’re from, in fact as their students come from all over a lot of their students maintain their home allegiance they grew up with. They are so small in tv draw they have small corporate support, and until they can gill a stadium the size of Allen hs they’ll be small time. Thus their support is from a fairly small number of benefactors, so all the dollars for lashlee take away bucks from nil or the program. same issue for Baylor, TCU, Tulane, etc that just can’t compete with schools that have massive fan support from folks that never went to school there.
  14. Jimmy Sexton should be hit with an anti trust suit by the feds. He not only represents most coaches and ADs, but he’s now an agent for players.
  15. I’m with you. I loved railhead from its opening and ate lunch there about once a week when I worked in downtown Ft worth. It’s very satisfying brisket and that smoked salami is tits; the fries and jalapeños are perfection and the beer is cold and in a frosted mug. I eat most often at David’s in Pantego, which is of sonny Bryan’s. As it’s 2 minutes from the house.
  16. Lot of money in Arkansas. Tyson Foods ( John Tyson recruited Calipari and committed the $), jb hunt trucking, Stephens Inc, jerry jones family, Dillard family, and lots of early investors in those companies.
  17. So here’s the current list if you’re losing track, and we ain’t done. More firings, and vacancies caused by hirings. Arkansas Florida LSU Penn State Stanford UCLA Virginia Tech Arkansas should get ahead of the game and just hire Petrino on a 3 year deal. He knows who to shitcan or keep. Otherwise they will be eating scraps, especially if ole miss loses Kiffin
  18. Kelly’s buyout is $54 mil. 2nd highest ever. The AD at Aggy that gave Jimbo that contract got hired at lsu to give Kelly that contract. You think he might end up gator food in a bayou?
  19. We’re enjoying the show but not the Lee character. My wife finally said it as I couldn’t. “He’s my fucking brother!” Yes, yes he is. Exactly.
  20. Lame season. Jeff needs to watch some Australian survivor and get back to the basics.
  21. Great points. I finished it yesterday and like your issues with the narrative. I’ll go do some research. I know little about the Philly mob except scarfo, but I knew some of the credibility issues in the earlier New York series. No one can suck a dick like the FBI blowing itself. It kind of took away any suspense when they had to constantly disclaim Joey and the fact he was never charged with a mob crime. I was then watching to see how the fibers going to fuck it up, the FBI should have been dismantled after Little Bohemia. Or their obvious faked takedown of Dillinger. Fucking keystone cops. My dad was a postal inspector and their #1 internal theft investigator after being a top mail fraud guy. He had nothing but disdain for the FBI, including most agents or their labs. Hair matching and handwriting analysis he considered mostly witchcraft they came up with to bamboozled juries. His highest respect went to US Marshals, Secret Service (the investigation section), the old ATF, and for science, dept of Agriculture.
  22. The Arkansas game will be the toilet bowl.
  23. He reminds me of Michael Scott in the dinner party episode, where his horrible relationship with Jan is revealed. Married. Weird suits. Divorcing. Baby. Reconciled. That kind of crazy family bullshit shows up in your work.
  24. Lyle Lovett, Large Band, Bass Hall last Friday night. Great show in the finest venue in all the land. Acoustically perfect. We’ve seen Lyle numerous times in a variety of venues and it’s a different show every time. First saw him in 87 at a small theater in Dallas and didn’t really know who he was. Saw him at Red Rocks and he gave Francene Reed her own part of the show to highlight her. This was probably our tenth time. He’s changed so much from then, he’s 60 and dad to 8 yo twins and married. He didn’t sing LA County but maybe cos the kids were there. The band is always impeccable with Russ Kunkle and Leland Sklar on drums and bass. he told some stories of his time at A&M with Robert Earl Keen. He told about meeting Michael Martin Murphy who played there in 75, and then brought him out for a duet. Then he left so mmm could sing. He did Wildfire and hit the high notes at 80! Great show.
  25. I’m going favorite not icons, so the ones I love to always listen to Lyle Lovett Patty Loveless Ray Price Jerry Jeff Walker Delbert McClinton
