  1. A college-aged kid wearing a mask outdoors due to covid fears in 2024 is really a thing? Or do you think there might be another reason they are wearing a mask at these outdoor protests?
  2. I never said that so stop lying. Or don't and keep beating up that strawman.
  3. Tents take up more space than a person. You could literally buy and set out as many as it take to occupy the entire space. They are not needed to protest. They also look like shit. It is an entirely reasonable rule. And I am pretty damn sure a court will agree.
  4. Abbot's motivation was wrong. He knows it. He was going for cheap political points with his base.
  5. Why is not allowing people to set up tents on the mall harsh?
  6. You can only take up so much space standing. But setting up tents you are taking up your space and the footprint of your tent or any number of tents you care to set up. Standing space is first come first serve. People eventually will have to use the restroom and vacate the space. Tents can be there indefinitely. Not really a good argument. The mall is not a fucking campground. Leave your tent at home and protest all you want.
  7. The argument is that by setting up tents, you are taking a public space and rendering it occupied and unusable to other members of the public.
  8. Aren't tailgate tents permitted and paid for and only in designated spots? Or do people just throw them up ad hoc on South Mall grass? Been years since I have been to a game.
  9. They are now. Keep up. They can challenge it in court. But right now, in 2024, you cannot wear face masks in these protests. Maybe a court will determine that restriction is overly broad. But I doubt it.
  10. Exactly. The issue with tents is that by setting them up, you are excluding others from using the public space. You are literally occupying public space. You can certainly occupy whatever public space you want with your body. You don't get to use your body to occupy a public space and then a tent to occupy or reserve additional public space. I can't go wheel in my deer blind that's on a trailer either.
  11. You think we are still in the spring of 2020? Of course not. If a pandemic was going on, that would be a factor. It isn't.
  12. You may not like them. But those bans and the bans on masks are very likely enforceable by a reviewing court.

  14. That is untrue. Plenty last week were wearing masks/disguising their faces. Which is against campus rules that have been posted many times in this thread.
  15. If they can prove the regulations are not content neutral, then a court will strike them down.
  16. Plenty of courts have upheld a state actors right to prohibit masks or disguises in public spaces. Some of the earliest cases were to prevent KKK members from wearing hoods to shield their identity and to make it difficult to identify lawbreakers among those lawfully protesting. The University of Texas has said wearing masks in protests violates University policy. https://www.texastribune.org/2024/04/24/ut-austin-israel-hamas-war-palestine-student-arrests/
  17. The University of Texas has articulated a list of other rules besides no overnight camping. Including no tents. And no masks. Whether those are reasonable time, place, and manner restrictions will likely determine, in a court, the lawfulness of removing/arresting any of these individuals who are violating these rules.
  18. Someone needs to walk up and start popping their masks like this:
  19. Watts and move to safety would be a decent pickup
  20. Watts and Ford have a good shot.
