  1. I guess it's a sign of the times when missing *only* 1/4 of the games over your career is considered not missing a lot of games.
  2. Keldon is a really good culture guy. His development has been frustrating and his contract ain't great ($17 million), but they view him as an important part of the organization. Vassell at $27,000,000 / yr through 2028-29 is rough. He can't stay healthy, his defense has declined, has poor situational awareness, and he can't stay healthy. I think both of them suffered developmentally from having to "be the man" on bad teams. They never were groomed for complementary roles around other players, which is where their value should lie. They need to fit in around Wemby and Fox (and Castle and now Harper), not the other way around. This is a big year for both of them, as well as Sochan. I think they're all kinda in the same boat of having to prove that you can contribute to winning or it's going to be time to move off them. The pecking order has changed drastically over the past 12 months. And we still need a thread title.... Spurs 2025-26: We got your deep vein hanging Spurs 2025-26: Emptying out the tank Spurs 2025-26: That sixth banner isn't going to hang itself Spurs 2025-26: Puta madre, we might actually be back
  3. This is pretty much where I am. I would imagine Texas is going to play super conservatively on offense with Florida's relative defensive strength, offensive woes, turnover proclivity, a tough road environment, Arch's inconsistency/yips, and Texas having a strong punting and special teams game. This is your win by playing, "complementary football" game plan if there ever was one. I'm predicting lots of brakes and not a ton of gas. It's probably going to be ugly but winning ugly is a good thing. Just get the W however we can. And god forbid we kick a fucking field goal on fourth down.
  4. Agree completely with your analysis, but... I mean, we did embarrass the fuck out of them last year 49-17 so maybe they have a little more motivation for revenge.
  5. He'd be fantastic on the OAN pre-game show.
  6. If you have some magic pill that gives you amnesia over the course of the Charlie Strong era, can you please send one my way?
  7. Media day has officially started: And Fox is already out for the first couple of games with a hamstring. Great. It's about time to start the season thread. I can't think of anything snappy right now for a title. Any ideas?
  8. Not only that, Sark inherited a winless team there. Washington was 0-12 the season before he got there. He walked into a mess and even while he was half in the bag he built that program into respectability. From what my son tells me, there's also a gigantic infiltration of cocaine at Ole Miss. All his high school buddies who ended up there are doing rails like we used to pound Pearl Light in college. And lots of whippets, although they call it something else now. Nothing says prim and proper like blow and nitrous. Hotty Toddy.
  9. We need to take a hard look at the state of the western conference right now. OKC is still going to be a motherfucker. Pencil them in for 60 unless they have the injury bug. Denver should be much better. Houston should be much better but losing FVV is a blow for them. The rest of the conference? Minnesota is still solid but didn’t do anything to improve. Memphis is a mystery. I don’t think the Lakers are any better. They have nothing inside unless you think Deandre Ayton got a brain transplant this off season. Does anybody think the Warriors can hold up for 82 games? Phoenix is a mess. The Clippers have their whole thing going on. Sacramento is going to be bad. Dallas isn’t going to have Kyrie and I don’t think Flagg is going to move the needle in year 1 with what has been a Luka-centric roster that’s now very poorly constructed. Portland isn’t serious and neither is New Orleans. Utah blows. Did I miss anyone? Last year I thought the team would be better than the record reflected. This year? I think a lot of teams in the west are on the brink of implosion. If things break right and they can stay healthy, this is a team that can make the playoffs and avoid the play in. We didn’t get to see Fox and Wemby together. They are going to be a filthy pick and roll combo. They added some real vets and depth in the front court with Olynyk and Kornet. Castle in year 2 is going to be a stud. No idea what they’re going to get out of Harper but if he’s half as good as I think he’s going to be, he’s going to be a nightmare to keep out of the paint. They went from Devin Vassell being their second best player to him being about their fourth or fifth best player. This is now a legit nba roster. I’m thinking they have an outside shot at getting to 50. I’ve also had about 20 beers today watching football fwiw I’m fired up for this season to get started. We’ve been wandering around the desert for too long. GSG
  10. Venables gets a mulligan if they sit Mateer and get beat by Texas. Nobody is going to blame him. He needs to sit Mateer for self-preservation unless the dude is anywhere close to 100%.
  11. That Oblate Cafe used be another Mexican food joint. I can't remember the name of it but it was pretty solid too. It actually is probably close to 50 years old. The Blanco Cafe controversy is a feud between different family members IIRC. The details escape me after all these years, but I think it made for some pretty uncomfortable holiday gatherings.
  12. It's a question of how much of his being fat as fuck contributed to those injuries. He had a meniscus tear, a foot fracture that cost him an entire season, he hurt his back last year right before the playoffs, and then there's been a myriad of other leg injuries -- hamstring, ankle, toe, calf, etc. I could see a world where his body isn't carrying such a heavy load and then he stays healthy. In the few times that his body has been right, he's been close to unstoppable. But for sure he'll stay healthy this year, get a max contract extension (Joe Dumars in the house now running shit), snd put on 50 lbs of fat next off season. The Pels, for all of their lottery luck, really can't seem to get a break.
  13. Nikkis is still open? Really? Are you shitting me? Do they still have gigantic fucking sushi rolls that make it damn near impossible to eat with chopsticks? Do you still have to sit on that nasty ass carpet?
  14. Yes. As is everything at Garcias. Carne guisada. Puerco guisada. Brisket nachos. Everything is fantastic there.
  15. True, but 31 isn't exactly ancient. It's not like you're trotting 40 year old Chris Paul out there. If healthy, I'd imagine FVV could still go 35 minutes a night. I don't know about the shotmaking role, though. They are going to need more than KD to stretch the floor if Sheppard can't cut it. Teams are going to pack it in the lane on them and dare them to beat them from outside. And KD jacks a surprisingly low number of threes for how great of a shooter he is.
  16. Say what you will about his overall production, FVV has put up some absolute monster playoff performances over his career. Dude is clutch as hell and has done it when the stakes were at their absolute highest. Those on the court things aren't easily replaceable. I didn't see anything from (my admittedly limited and Spurs fan-biased) watching of Reed Sheppard last year that leads me to believe he will be a NBA level starting guard. He looked so small and physically overmatched. Jury is still way out on him and he was just a 20 year old rookie on sporadic minutes, but I wasn't very impressed.
  17. Surgery on throwing hand thumb, correct?
  18. I agree with you 100% but I'd also like to point out they paid him a shitload in NIL. Notwithstanding how much cash they had already burned on him up that point, I don't know enough about how those deals are structured month to month or whatever, but it may not have been purely altruistic on his part.
  19. I went through the same exercise. If you look hard enough you will discover that it is going to be recorded later in the week when I suppose they show it on the sec network. It’s some bullshit.
  20. Blah blah blah South Austin's mom... blah blah blah.
  21. That's great news. Can he play QB?
  22. We also used to hate you, Mark. I think I've come full circle on him.
  23. You probably have the right perspective on this, but I just can't find myself pulling for A&M. Or for Notre Dame either for that matter. Rooting hard for the earthquake.
  24. How do you suspend a guy who never plays? It’s like a Buddhist koan.
  25. I'm hanging out with my Spurs friend on 'Sunday. I cannot fucking wait to get his take on this.
