  1. After Charlie Kirk died I went and searched out some videos to learn about him more as I'd only known really the name and the caricactures of his gum line and head from here. I saw this video which I saw was interesting-- mostly the Greek interpretation. I'm not posting this to say he's right (he could be BS'ing for al lI know because I don't know Greek) but it invites debate. The whole video is worth a watch but the timestamp for the Greek is at the 2:19 mark:
  2. Which is why I think when you read Acts and the Paulines, the early church is an interesting model compared to the "church" we see today. But what really is church anyways? I've always learned that the church isn't a building or a choir or a band or people who only think about God one day a week, but it's you and I. It's this thread and the conversations about faith-- the encouragement and worship that those who have given on here-- because where two or more are gathered...
  3. Which is why I think Reggie White had a good idea and was on a good path before he died to try and learn the original languages and read the original translations for himself. I mean, it's a crazy idea, but kinda cool if you are a multimillionaire and retired with nothing else better to do. At the very least the Greeks have an upperhand in they can read Greek transcripts and not the butchered NLT or NLV's of contemporary english.
  4. We are slacking:
  5. Was a lot more "down the middle" than I expected with some flowers to some unexpecteds (e.g. Ted Cruz, Erica Kirk, etc.). I thought it was really good.
  6. Serious answer: The rapture isn't biblical. Blame the Left Behind Series in the 90's
  7. Makes sense, I just read that and I'm actually not on twitter (or bluesky or threads or facebook or tiktok or or or or or....) so I'll take your word for it.
  8. ...The paradox of Bluesky. The platform’s explosive growth after last year’s election has dwindled to marginal pre-election numbers, but everyone from pundit Nate Silver to Vice President JD Vance seems to find it important enough that they’ve been talking about that stalled growth for months and months. Worryingly, that same paradox is supporting the entire creator economy right now. There is clearly a disconnect between the engagement figures that keep the money flowing and the wheels turning, and the reality of whether those numbers reflect anyone (viewers or creators) actually giving a shit. That’s why I thought it was important to mention on Monday that consistently, around 5-10% of all the most popular posts on Bluesky are sexy cartoons. That matters because they exist completely outside of this paradigm — advertiser-unfriendly, completely free of AI, with all its engagement reflecting people who asked for it and enjoy it. A recent survey from Meltwater bears this out, finding that online conversation about Bluesky has almost 10-times the volume of conversation that Meta’s Threads generates, which consistently puts up much bigger engagement numbers than Bluesky does. And even though I doubt much of that conversation about Bluesky concerns hentai, its consistency shows the priorities of the platform and its users. Though, I do think it’s worth talking about how hard Bluesky’s most visionary perverts are working to hornify the bugs from Hollow Knight: Silksong. At time of writing, more than 80% of the top results for “Hornet,” the game’s main character, is art that renders her much sexier than she is in the game. Is this the kind of growth we should be tracking? https://www.meltwater.com/en/blog/top-niche-social-networks-2025
  9. It looked packed on youtube in all the panned out wide shots (unlike the fake inauguration photos)
  10. Quantum stocks seem to be the new rage-- up 200% in some cases YoY (I'll take it to the stonks board, but helping you to keep up with the latest pump pre-dump).
  11. Sinners. Pretty interesting and good movie. I love Buddy Guy.
  12. Cross post, but Shanah Tova to all those who partake and enjoy the Honey apples!
  13. by the way, shanah tova, enjoy the honey apples to al those who partake (just catching up on the last two pages)
  14. I watched the memorial; it really was a beautiful send off and the wife Erica especially was really moving in her strength and forgiveness. Say what you will, but I do believe they try/tried to be Christians to the best that they knew how or were taught and thought was the right way. At least that's what my take away was.
  15. I haven’t looked it up, but surely Arch’s stats have to be in the top quintile of SEC QB’s (yards, TDs, total TDs, etc.). I know it’s not quite passing the eyeball test yet until he does it against a real team, but that’s something to build on!

  17. You bring up a good point because it’s widely assumed you get more intolerant and conservative the older you get. Have you guys ever heard of irony poisoning? Sociologists think that is what happened online and what corrupted the youth over time.
  18. Id never heard of it. Quick google search shows the first video of a woman pastor. Your assessment checks out for a lot of the complementarisnism purists.
  19. I’d think the typical Baptist church or COC church would be more like that. From what I’ve seen, the non-denoms are drawing youth because it’s a compelling message (the Gospel of Jesus Christ) as unburdened by the baggage of Gen X and Boomer parents crap. it seems a more honest and organic growth than if these kids would have had the drug problem our generation had…. you know the drug problem— we were drug to church on Sundays as often as they could make us.
  20. I get you have a preconceived notion and that you seem to be emotionally invested in your point of view here, but I don’t think this checks out either. Unless it’s your claim all non-denominational Bible churches that play Modern Christian Music are “douche factories”
  21. Christianity is starting to make a comeback in the U.S. and other western countries, led by young people. Why it matters: A decades-long decline has stalled, shaping the future of Gen Z, the drivers of the religion revival. “We’ve seen the plateau of non-religion in America,” says Ryan Burge, a political scientist at Eastern Illinois University. “Gen Z is not that much less religious than their parents, and that’s a big deal.” By the numbers: Data from Pew shows that, for decades, each age group has been less Christian than the one before it. Americans born in the 1970s are 63% Christian. 1980s babies are 53% Christian, and 1990s babies are 46% Christian. But there was no decline from the 1990s to the 2000s. Americans born in the 2000s are also 46% Christian. Stunning stat: Gen Z-ers — especially Gen Z men — are actually more likely to attend weekly religious services than millennials and even some younger Gen X-ers, Burge’s analysis shows. Between the lines: Young men are leading American’s religion resurgence. Within older generations, there’s a consistent gender gap among Christians, with women more likely to be religious than men. https://www.axios.com/2025/05/10/religious-young-people-christianity-rise
  22. This is an interesting read. At one point we did rally together as a globe. The article seems to suggest Climate as happy coming together of countries was actually the result of being bored and in-between a generational, purposeful war: https://www.nytimes.com/2025/09/16/magazine/climate-politics-us-world-paris-agreement.html
  23. This climate thing is just too hard
  24. I actually thought I heard just yesterday that it's the opposite, young people are rebounding the numbers (Gen Z, etc.)
  25. Jefferson, Jackson, Lincoln, Roosevelt, Wilson, FDR, Eisenhower, JFK, Nixon, Carter, Reagan, Bush Sr, Clinton, Bush Jr, Obama, Trump, and Biden. Know something these US presidents all have in common? eta, I'll spoil the answer:
