  1. Opens up another spot on the staff to fill. He was one of the 3 spec asst. to the HC guys on the team. He's going to USCe to be an actual on-field coach as special teams coordinator. Much like Akina, can't blame them for taking the other offer.
  2. I'm relatively ambivalent on the hire. Would not have felt much better if it were Rod Wright. Just saying shit to drive discussion. We will see pretty quickly if this guy is Texas quality or not either way. It also doesn't hurt to have another young AA coach on the staff.
  3. Do we always hire the more experienced candidate when filling positions? I'm not excited by the hire, but I also lack the information to really assess it. When experience is lacking, we rely on reputable references and context to fill in the gaps. HOT TAKE: I think this guy is gonna make his name here, learn from PK and Nansen, and be a DC candidate in 5 years or so.
  4. It's only a gamble because you don't know about him. I doubt Sark just threw a dart on a board and it landed on this guy. The main reason why people think this is settling is because of the lack of information we have to view this. He's an ambitious guy and seems to get his guys to play hard for him.
  5. The people only expecting this guy to only be depth should also realize that he's younger than both Broughton and Collins. If they can improve, then he can too. Good looking DT.
  6. It may have been lost in the sea of off-topic stupidity.
  7. He developed himself into a five star HS DT prospect, big time contributor at Texas, and eventual draft pick and NFL player. Now, he's developed himself into a pretty good coach worthy of being considered as the DL coach at his alma mater. He's also young enough to relate to most of these guys while still commanding respect. He doesn't have a ton of skins on the wall as a coach, but I'm sure he can sell what he's accomplished so far in his life.
  8. Worthy was also playing very hurt in that game and couldn’t break like he normally does when healthy.
  9. They’re cousins, but they’re so close that they might as well be actual brothers
  10. People can improve/decline year over year. People can also perform differently in new circumstances. Lots of moving parts right now.
  11. Chatman, Akana, and Walton aren't going anywhere. Burrell probably sticks around unless he doesn't see a path. I could see Holmes leaving if he gets in a dogfight in the spring. If we get J. Muhammad, M. Muhammad and T. Brooks would split time in the boundary, and M. Muhammad could easily spell J. Muhammad when needed. That leaves Holmes, Roberson, Black, and Mack fighting for snaps in the spring. I could see Red leaving as well. Competitive spring upcoming. Hopefully everyone stays healthy.
  12. They gotta beat Oregon and Penn state on the road with Will Howard at QB. That defense is gonna need to carry them. Or hope for BoB creativity to get the offense right. I also think Dillon Gabriel is the best QB in that conference right now.
  13. Better Ohio State than Georgia. We’ll play him again in his last year if he stays after Day gets fired or leaves
  14. He was buoyed this year by 5th and 6th year players all over defense and 6th year Penix throwing to 3 really good receivers. They have like 6 losable games next year as things stand. They lose maybe half of those if Milroe stays healthy.
  15. Niblack isn't Sam LaPorta, but he’s a willing blocker out there. That should be enough to become serviceable before he departs the 40. As long as he keeps his head on straight
  16. He's also a below average recruiter in the south without a strong NIL foundation behind him. If he doesn't win enough early (2 years), it's gonna get ugly.
  17. Transition is tough, it's even tougher since they specifically chose to live in Tuscaloosa to get coached by Saban. The value proposition has changed and DeBoer isn't the guy to convince them otherwise. On top of that, they can make better money, live in a better town, and potentially get better development by leaving. Not a hard decision if that's why you came.
  18. I assume you're counting the Buck and Jack in your 140-150 snaps per game. Don't forget we had Jett Bush and Mo Blackwell rushing the passer from the SLB position at times too, so there are plenty of ways to get more pass rushers out there in the 70 or so defensive snaps per game.
  19. I think they just get the lambo for weekends here and there. That’s not their everyday driver car.
  20. Sucks for that kid, must be hard to look in the mirror while watching Milroe have the success he thought he was heading for. I still remember those offseason workout vids where he looked a step or two below the guys he was going through drills with.
  21. He played with Donovan smith, Samuel brown and Joseph manjack last year. My point is that, in the past, we’ve seen WRs further down the depth chart (B. Thompson) whine about the WR room getting crowded. It’s good to see him supporting all the new people who could potentially reduce his targets this year.
  22. This is already a better WR room than last year. Will they produce like it? Who knows. The drop off from Sanders to Niblack is probably a solid one, but it’s hard to determine the kind of output he and Bond would have in a more competent passing offense. At the very least, he provides a different look in the red zone and on money downs. The team needs to gel over the offseason for things to really start to take off.
