  1. Where was this streaming? I saw an ad for it a while ago that it was coming soon and want to check it out. The source material (White Noise, by DD) is one of my favorite novels so I figure I oughta at least check out how they screwed it up.
  2. I agree with the emotion of the OP, but also this came up with SBF and FTX, there is a fundamental misunderstanding of the purpose of bail. It's not supposed to be punitive but a response to what prosecutors think is the risk of flight (and staying flown). This horrible creature will get plenty of time behind bars in due time after due process.
  3. Sounds like someone really likes the new West Campus aesthetic, yuck.
  4. Re: DNA matching. Read this and thought it interesting and hope it’s not a thread derail: Idaho police recently arrested Bryan Kohberger on suspicion of murdering four college students in November. The tech used to apprehend him is a controversial one that involves public DNA databases, perBusiness Insider. How it works Online tools, like GEDmatch, compare DNA test results from companies like 23andMe and Ancestry. Users download their DNA data file, upload it to GEDmatch, and potentially find relatives around the world. But cops use GEDmatch, too: In 2018, police used GEDmatch to arrest Joseph James DeAngelo, AKA the Golden State Killer, after matching crime scene DNA to his distant relative. In 2019, GEDmatch was acquired by Verogen, a forensic firm that works with law enforcement. Now, users who opt to share DNA do so with investigators. It’s a complicated issue Some advocates tout the tech’s ability to solve cold cases and exonerate the innocent. Others argue it’s a violation of privacy that must be regulated (e.g., restricted to only certain violent crimes). Just because you opt to share your DNA doesn’t mean your relatives do. Also: DNA testing isn’t infallible, and has led towrongful convictions due to human error, contamination, secondary transfer, and other factors. Podcast: NHPR’s Bear Brook explores the first cold case solved using genetic genealogy.
  5. Whatever Austin was like when you were in undergrad I think is the prime, peak example of what you think is perfect Austin. I just spent a week at the Hotel Van Zandt, which I think is located on top of where I used to park my car on Friday to crash in cheap apartments my friends lived in near what is now a condo high-rise, and leave all weekend and come get on Sunday afternoon. I drove through West Campus and was floored. What a pathetic turn of events from what used to be an amazing, derelict area of debauchery. With Cain & Abel's closing what's even the point of going to UT anymore? I'll be advising my children elsewhere. Let's see how TCU does in the Natty.
  6. I don't know; Roblbox came back and seemed to a) refute some of the more inflammatory accusations while also b) admitting he had some culpability in communication and could be at fault in some areas. I would think that mature adults could work out these differences with this communication re-open. @ROFL BOX / @Born to Run - Do you need the Surly collective to act as your asynchronous, binding mediation?
  7. It’s been a while since we’ve had a good On blast dramatic tête-à-tête
  8. Tesla production numbers were bad which is hurting the stock it seems. In other Elon wealth news-- how much of SpaceX does he own? Saw this chryon today-- probably will help his net worth with all the Tesla loss:
  9. Also, while you potentially have more money if invested, the family still has the burden of making a bunch of decisions and dealing with the funeral administration and the business of it all, while going through a tragic time (if it's like OP insinuated, a non-old-age death). Having it all buttoned up and paid for seems like it would be a great convenience and benefit to the survivors potentially.
  10. Same. The girls in the house loved it and I thought it was cleverly done.
  11. $800 seems light for something that needs to be a real comfort (e.g. 50 years old and you hurt and want to relax a lot in it) versus just some dumb furniture piece you don't care too much about and might sit in every now and again in your media room or something. Nebraska Furniture Mart is the last place I bought a recliner and prices were good. That's all I got.
  12. Everything you just said is so spot on true and the text book definition of “moral hazard”. And we are going to sit back and let it happen like a bunch of gimps. It’s sickening, really.
  13. Humblebragging having saved a couple million bucks liquid, eh? I like it, I like it: Sustained. That said to OP: For $100 I did a quick and dirty online Will, printed it out, had friends witness as I signed it from Quicken: https://smartasset.com/estate-planning/quicken-willmaker-trust-review
  14. Thank you this was the headline I got that I couldn't read due to paywall.
  15. Let's start at a place of agreement-- your point 5. Where in your mind is a productive and forward-moving way to investigate this? What makes sense to intelligently try and get an exhaustive and definitive root cause analysis report? Just the objective facts and timelines and parties involved, dispensing with any punitive retaliation or accountability...yet. Because what I think I'm hearing you say is that it's impossible in your mind so we might not even try and shouldn't even bring it up because it just gives oxygen to the loonies who want to conspiracy theory this to death, so the benefit of letting the sleeping doe lie outweighs the risk (or your annoyance) of kicking up dust for these answers.
  16. Is there a thread or a discussion specifically around the taxes being public now? I'd like to read about that and figured this would be the place but not seeing any discussion around it. Saw this breaking headline but it's paywalled:
  17. And yet you see it still again on this thread-- people want to silence the questioning, or worse yet, roll their eyes and say "not this again" because it is uncomfortable. I allowed that there are annoying consequences (people who are prone to take a mile when given an inch), but attention must be paid, is my belief.
  18. Way to go; it seems you chose IBM at the right time. It's all about the 3 T's in this wild world of sales: Territory, Talent and Timing. You nailed the last one.
