  1. It would be awesome to have a 5-tool player in CF but I think because of MMP it's more important to prioritize outfield D; you need range, range and more range, or your team ERA swells by a full run. Make up for lost O with a platoon-mate for Gurriel or at DH.
  2. SIAP but I think the shitty police response is more a red herring than anything else and worse, it will be used by the NRA types as their newest excuse. "We need more and better police with more tactical weapons." I mean it would have been cool if they kicked down the doors and took the kid out, but it seems like he'd already done his worst by then. Still, "fuck the police," but beware this as the new trend in gun nut excuses.
  3. "I would go down on her. I am proud of her and the way she has handled these mean lawyers at this trial. And while she is about 40 percent hot as she once was, she's still solid 6." -- Uncle Boobs
  4. So was Godfather's aide-de-camp, Major Todd Eckloff, who was played by Benjamin Busch, who had a lower rank but did two tours. Busch also played a meathead detective in The Wire and is an acclaimed author and photographer. Sixta's accent was just too ridiculous. I grew up bouncing back and forth between Tennessee and Texas and I never heard anything like it anywhere. And he's a diddler too so fuck both the actor and the character.
  5. I heard they were roommates at Abilene Christian
  6. Figured this show has earned its way into deserving its own thread and I didn't find one. Best: Kind of obvious. Fick, Iceman, Elvis for comic relief. Worst: There are some shitty characters on this show but I believe Casey Kasem is the worst by far. Encino Man is a moron and Captain America is a little bitch but that dude is a conniving little asshole.
  7. Who was that guy with Ford? Ver solid, professional, checked all the boxes in theory, but boring AF.
  8. The "plot" of one of their current radio ads is telling. A guy at the drive-thru is paralyzed by burger dilemma. We've all been there, esp at Whataburger. The narrator persuades him to try this North Carolina abomination of a burger and the dude eats it and falls in love with it and says "It's like you really know me" to the narrator / Chicago assholes who are stealing our souls. I mean look at what they are getting rid of and what they are bringing in: spicy biscuits and breakfast taquitos out, sugary cole slaw laden burgers in. Don't fall for it. Boycott. Deguello.
  9. Elmo's in West Columbia. Burgers are Whataburger level -- no better or worse. Seems a deliberate plan -- there are no WBs for 20 miles in either direction. However CFS and catfish are both very, very good. Very much worth it if you are in the area.
  10. Yeah some details in the arrest affidavit don't make sense. Supposedly these dudes got all rapey on the walk home and the girls were fighting them off. Then they walk through a room where at least one roommate is up and around and don't say anything and go in a bedroom and close the door? Without alerting that roommate they'd been getting pawed / fondled / whatever all the way home?
  11. CSB: I was a member of a frat with a house close by the SAE house. They all went on some trip and left their CD jukebox blaring full blast all weekend long. We went over there about 4 AM on Saturday / Sunday with baseball bats and smashed it to pieces. /csb
  12. If you listen to the Cocaine and Rhinestones podcast episode (maybe more than one) on the Judds, Naomi comes across as a pyscho cunt of the highest order and it's kind of amazing Wynonna wasn't the one to blow her brains out first. Or Ashley. Just an evil, evil bitch.
  13. Maldy going yard is so special. It's like your blind 12-year-old lab catching a squirrel. So proud of him.
  14. And the magnificent bastard was also cynical enough to realize that he needed to make ringworm-ridden tow-headed Appalachian tots the poster children for his War on Poverty. Couching it as a racial issue plays into he hands of the billionaires and is the surest way to see that nothing is ever done about it.
  15. Yep they are trying to streamline it with Southern tastes and some of y'all are falling for it. It will be a second-rate version of Cookout before y'all know it. And I like Cookout, f I am in Mississippi or points east. HEB needs to buy the Texas locations of Whataburger and save it.
  16. SIAP but this is how late stage capitalism works. 1. China and SE Asia and South Asia are the deepest pool of dirt-cheap labor combined with a certain level of manufacturing right now. 2. However it costs a lot of money to ship the goods across the planet on fuel-guzzling container ships. 3. Sooo....you break down American workers. Make them more like Chinese workers. Present trends are moving in the other direction but that is the dream they share when the billionaires break out the cigars and dream of a better world.
  17. Holy shit -- I might be the only Texan to have eaten there with his young daughter who was not on his way to or from Ozark. Seconded -- good stuff.
  18. Wound up becoming dildo emporium Zone D'Erotica, embarrassing the mighty Galleria for decades.
  19. I did think it was funny when I read that his answering machine played a recording of BB King's "The Thrill is Gone." Also, I have an affinity for fellow grads of Jesuit highs schools, unless that school is in Dallas. But yeah, he was an Astro-killer for sure, and I've heard the same rumors of dickishness. https://youtu.be/oica5jG7FpU
  20. It all comes back to a sense of overall dissatisfaction. It is now official -- most people in greater Houston -- not the city itself, but the city and many shitty enclaves, can no longer afford to live there. Either the rent is too damn high or the wages are too damn low or both. One or both of those items needs to be addressed real soon or this country is going to be even more of a shitshow than it has of late. I mean, yeah, $20/hour probably is too much to pay a Subway employee, but when that doesn't cover rent, what good is it?
  21. Thanks for all the great responses! Keep 'em comin'!
  22. Would not be allowed in an article for a Texas magazine, alas
  23. Anyone know of any? They used to be in every small town right by the highway -- basically a burger joint with maybe a picnic table or two but no real seating. Mom and pops. I guess Sonic killed most of them off. There are a couple in Houston still, like Someburger and Poppa Burger, which barely qualifies because it has so many picnic tables.
