  1. OK, sounds like you know more about this than I do. I thought that sat/radar tracking was really good/accurate for launch (detecting plumes), through boost and mid-course, but I didn't realize that our adversaries sat/radar was accurate at tracking our ABM at the terminal phase where we're making intercepts. Especially when we're testing out in the middle of the Pacific. I realize the tests are "public" but also that the military strategically lies here and there also. Maybe I missed something?
  2. Do you think we're up front with our true ABM capabilities? Wouldn't surprise me if we're holding actual capabilities close to the vest and underselling here.
  3. All the talk about the oligarchs rising up against Putin is wish casting. He's there because of them not in spite of them. They've been able to pillage Russia and flaunt law and order openly because of him. They don't actually want him to go anywhere. Sanctions and asset freezing might change things on the periphery but not that much, because these are multi-billionaires. They've got hidden accounts and assets all over the place. Plus, if you take a shot at the king and miss, you're dead and not in a pleasant way. That's a pretty strong incentive for inaction. Plus what do you think happens to the oligarchs' wealth if/when Putin is deposed? If there's a popular uprising and a Yeltsin-style populist gets into power over Russia, great for the rest-of-world but for the oligarchs that's their heads on pikes. At a minimum they're losing almost all of their assets. If you're a multi-billionaire who has benefitted from the largesse of Putin and him looking the other way, would you rather: Take a 50% hit to your net worth in sanctions and confiscations but stay alive, or, Potentially try to replace Putin with a different crony and have a high chance of dying in the process, or, Wait for a popular uprising and potentially lose everything AND die? Logically your lowest risk option is to stand pat. Especially if the reports are true that Putin has "sequestered" the oligarchs for their "safekeeping."
  4. No shit, she got dragged through the mud along w/ Harsin. Not sure who's going to pay out that money though, for anonymous internet rumors. Now if she got fired OTOH...
  5. Unpopular opinion: I think that building is kinda cool for what it is, an art exhibit. The light patterns that come through the windows are interesting.
  6. Yeah it would definitely be tight on the existing footprint and they'd either need to go really vertical (really expensive) or get creative. Why not just cut off Jester Circle right at the parking garage and then they can build over what used to be the street and even into the Jester beach area, which would give a ton more footprint. It looks like with some creativity they could poke a truck sized entrance to the rear of Jester's loading dock from 21st street, between the dining hall and Breckenridge Hall to still allow them to get supplies in and collect trash from San Jacinto hall - there is already a small service drive there that could be expanded. That's probably the easiest. Alternatively, and a LOT more expensive and political...eventually UT will need to close off the little leg of San Jacinto street that curves over Waller Creek, and turn that into usable land. We can make Trinity 2-way for the small leg next to the Santa Rita drill (assuming that can't be moved due to historical reasons but if it can that opens up a lot of other possibilities). If that small part of San Jacinto is gone, the Cooling station can be relocated down the hill next to the SR Drill parallel to MLK, which opens up a massive footprint when combined with the basketball courts for the rec center or whatever.
  7. Why not build a new rec center on footprint of the basketball courts behind Jester next to the parking garage? Could fit plenty in there if they went vertical and also could build into the side of the hill there. Also an easier walk from West.
  8. The expense and risk involved in making truss changes that will affect the structural integrity of your home will pale in comparison to just renting a storage unit. Do that, the storage unit won't cause your house to fall down either.
  9. No doubt 250 is HOT. Something is up, radiator, t-Stat, fan clutch, cooling fan installed backwards. I'm at a loss; we've done so much: Engine was rebuilt by a reputable rebuilder (WCH racing engines in Midlothian, TX) Bored over New rings, pistons, seals Broke in and bench dyno'd Replaced undersized x-flow rad with OEM correct sized down flow rad Added rad fan shroud Removed fan clutch, fan is now direct drive (yes it's facing the correct direction, LOL) Added FiTech TBFI system which should in theory run the mix correctly so it's not overly rich or anything Removed old headers for ceramic headers Also wrapped those headers New fluids obviously Yet it still is having this heat issue. At this point if the flush doesn't do the trick, I'm wondering if they might have messed up the bore and gotten too aggressive, maybe the cylinder walls got too thin or something? Seems unlikely but possible? Any other ideas?
  10. Going down the road it’ll settle in at 190-200. Sitting at a light it goes up and up and doesn’t stop. I saw the gauge hit 250 at a long light before I was able to get moving again, freaked me out that it would going to boil over and make some damage. It does burp coolant out of the rad overflow tank.
  11. They do good work. I need to take the Cuda back to them to see if we can knock out the overheating issue. They called me the other day suggesting that the engine rebuilder we outsourced the 383 re-do to may have failed to flush it correctly and a possibility is that there is debris in the water channels impacting flow. They want to do a power flush and see if they can get anything out. I'm at a loss right now and will try anything; I hardly drive it because i can't trust it right now
  12. They were doing expansion of the work floor so the tour wasn’t open (will be open in the Spring) but the tasting room was open. Blanco is a fun place and an easy 1 hr drive from North Austin, and there are several different distilleries out there as well as breweries.
  13. Took a little day trip out to Blanco today to visit Milam & Greene. I’m not as expert as some of y’all on this thread but I like their single barrel bourbon a lot, really smooth. I also picked up a bottle of the Distillery Edition (115p) and 13-year edition (120p), both very tasty.
  14. Quick early-season Angel Fire review: we skied 4 days Tues-Fri this week. I was sweating this trip because up until a week ago they had basically no snow. The 2 days around Christmas they got some snow and the mountain opened up, but it was really limited, only ~8/80 trails, and they were all greens. It was pretty crowded on the lower mountain with the beginners, but the long run from the Chili Express lift down was about 3.5 miles and was fun. By Friday they got enough snow to open more trails, including some fun Blue routes including a few with moguls, which I had never really done. I did the moguls but I wouldn't really say I "did" them IYKWIM. If I wasn't beat from 4 days I would have gone back today, they opened even more routes, including some Blacks. My 13 y/o daughter did ski school and they did a great job. She was a solid beginner by the end of the trip, making turns, getting on/off the lift successfully, and had a smile on her face. My 11 y/o son we didn't put in ski school b/c on our last trip 2 years ago to Ski Apache he did it and was awesome and we figured he'd pick it back up. Wrong decision...my wife pointed out that he's grown a lot since then, puberty etc and is now really lanky and uncoordinated, he had a rough time. As a fallback, we wanted him to be able to do snow tubing...but apparently that requires a different ticket than our lift ticket (of course) and it was sold out (of course). Lesson learned. Other lessons learned, which are probably obvious to the more experienced skiers on this thread: You can pick up your rentals and lift tickets the night before. DO THAT so you don't waste 2-3 hours the morning of your first day. If you're not staying at the lodge (we weren't), you should either: Find a place at the base to securely store your gear overnight, or Find a good drop off point near the base to drop off your kids/partner with all the gear from your car, then park and walk up in your walking boots. Nothing sucks more than walking any distance in ski boots. Pack your lunch unless you're Surly 1%, the food at the base is crazy overpriced fried shit, and it's not good. Save your money for beer. Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate. Drink 2x the water you think you need. Use SPF and chapstick, a lot of it, you'll burn. Altitude affects people in different ways. For me, not much, but I workout regularly. For my wife it killed her appetite and she generally just felt like shit, turns out she was also dehydrated. You'll also need more sleep than normal which won't be a problem if you're skiing because you'll be tired if you're doing it right. If you have time before you go: squats. I lift a lot of weights and still felt it in my quads and thighs after a few days. Also, cardio...in 2021 I added simple walking of about 2-4 miles/day to my routine and it helped a lot. Don't get frustrated! You're going to fall, it's part of it. I'm a solid intermediate and have no problem with blues and even occasionally blacks, but I really have to manage my speed and do a lot of cutbacks. In 4 days I probably fell about 4 times, two of those were because it was really crowded and a beginner cut in front of me unexpectedly and I couldn't pull off the turn quick enough, the other 2 were because I didn't manage my speed well enough and got going too fast and wasn't confident enough in my turn and caught my edge and tumbled. I did have a couple of nice "garage sale" wipeouts where I scattered skis, poles, etc in all directions Fun! Whenever I'm pulling myself together after a fall I try to do a quick retrospective and think about why I fell and how I can correct it next time...continuous improvement. Speaking of improvement...anyone have any recommendations for good YouTubers to watch for an intermediate looking to improve on quicker turns, etc?
  15. You'll have a great time. I haven't been but everyone I've talked says that CB is great. Enjoy!
  16. One more…fun day today with more trails open.
  17. Happy skiiing from Angel Fire!
  18. Checking in from Angel Fire this week! Good snow but not enough accumulation yet so it’s only about 1/3rs open. Lots of crowds. Still fun for this intermediate skier and my kids.
  19. I just finished the last episode. Feels like we jumped 3 books ahead or something. Just totally disjointed, I have zero care about for anyone. Morai feels miscast, all of the dragons save the old chick feel miscast, especially the redhead who seems like a total pussy. The fades and trollocs are cool. The stakes in the fights don’t feel real. I’m Intrigued by what could be but I’m disappointed and I’m not even a book tag. I’m disappointed by proxy.
  20. He put people in the blender every game. Seems like half of those highlights were vs. Tampa Bay...he terrorized them. I've never seen another back with that combo of being able to maintain close to top speed while cutting, just the elite-of-the-elite. He also had enough power to break tackles and the balance, the vision...just the whole package. Wonder where he would have ended his career if he didn't hang it up early.
  21. Not a bookfag but I don't think she was Aes Sedai, I think she was the redheaded warrior race they referred to in an earlier episode when the skeleton was in the cage.
  22. I'll be the judge of that! With my hands. And my mouth. And cock. Meaning I'd touch them.
