  1. Read this today. "Fun-flation" is the new "greed-flation" to explain non-transitory inflation: (ETA, NYT Link: https://www.nytimes.com/section/business/dealbook?) I wish the newer generations had an understanding or ability to shift gears into "austere mode", but poor people pooling together their money in an airbnb in Miami won't be stopped. We are going to get rate hikes until there is blood in the streets and then we will say, "but why did it have to come to this?"
  2. Sorry then, I took the implication to mean that it was being shipped in mass quantity and at scale, not in the limited way it's been handled since 2022. Again, it's massively better than what Tesla has been able to do and so by comparison it's a grand slam, which I guess was the point.
  3. ^^ That's what I'm seeing as well That said, I think it is a flex when someone rolls up in the church parking lot with the new Ford Lightning though, especially knowing it's not the cheapest. We've beat this dead horse, but having a Tesla in 2023 is NOT a flex. But as I mentioned in the trucks thread-- gasoline trucks are still more expensive. Just had lunch today with a buddy who bought a higher end F250 with all the fixings and out the door price was $109k.
  4. No, I knew it was a lottery style system too at first and to get the low price you'd need to get lucky, but I logged in just last week and of the 4 models, only 1 was available (and of course the two cheapest starting base models were not available to build out). I think Ford has done great and will dominate the E-truck market, I'm just saying they aren't exactly rolling them off the line in short order as it seemed was suggested.
  5. Oh no I agree, the Cybertruck is vaporware, I'm just saying let's not over-credit Ford here. They aren't exactly at distribution and GTM yet, though they have done roll-outs while they could.
  6. Not sure I agree with your police work, Lou. Signed, someone who paid a $100 deposit for Ford Lightning in May of 2021 and still cannot order model (just logged in and looked) and even if I could, prices are up like 50% since announced.
  7. Seems like 14 pages of overthinking it. Passport bros seem to me like middle of the road, average dudes (from the youtube video linked) who either aren't of the ability or are impatient to the process, of getting to being wealthy and privileged in being able to fund an excessive and fun and hedonistic lifestyle. So they go overseas to short-cut it. It's the equivalent of having a strong U.S. Dollar go further in third world countries and being "rich" when you travel other places, which makes being a "playboy baller" easier to do. These guys aren't overweight losers in the basement playing D&D or autists (at least, again, from watching the linked youtube video and the videos that follow on passport bros) they are Rocko20's-- leasing corvettes and making middle class income with off the rack but decent clothes in the States, but would be seen as exceptional in Thailand or [fill in the blank]. Which is why the -bro epithet fits (again, as opposed to the sad sacks people are talking about-- 300lb people and acne losers and autists, etc.)
  8. I said this upthread, but I hadn't seen it validated by anyone here-- but what I'm seeing in the exburbs is that Yeti is old-hat now and out and it's all about the Stanley cups for the younger families and tiktok generation. Starter pack meme: Constantly wearing airpods, short shorts, crocs and a Stanley cup
  9. Yea, the richest guy in the entire planet earth, for sometime this Spring before being knocked back down to number 2, is the inventor the brown leather bag with LV initials all over it.
  10. True , but also the gross cost is just outrageous. Just got back from a lunch with a buddy who bought a new F250 a few weeks ago, a higher end one, but he paid out the door $109k
  11. 52 pages before all-star break. Last year's entire thread was 46 pages. Also, I'm glad my spidey senses were working back in January!
  12. I don't know how you Marvel fans feel but a lot of people are freaking out that Marvel used AI to create a trailer for Secret Invasion. Duh, it's the perfect use case for it. Granted it wasn't good and won't be good for a while, but "good enough" is good enough, sometimes. I think this is very much a situation of toothpaste out of the tube and either get on board with the new tech and new way or get run over: https://deadline.com/2023/06/secret-invasion-opening-credits-ai-backlash-marvel-mcu-disney-1235421667/

  14. One final Bach tidbit: Bach has four pieces on the “Voyager Golden Record,” which was sent into space with the Voyager spacecraft in 1977. Beethoven has two, and no other musician has more than one. So if aliens find the record, Bach is our musical emissary.
  15. Was reading a blog and, as a laymen/dolt/ignorant peon, I didn't know this: If you can only name two classical composers, I’m guessing they’re Beethoven and Mozart. And for good reason. In addition to being two of the most impactful musical geniuses in history, they have dramatic personal stories. Beethoven composed grandiose symphonies while gradually losing his hearing. Mozart was the consummate prodigy who stunned his father when he played violin at their home with professional musicians despite never having had a lesson. Drama! But survey composers and the most important musician is neither of those two. When BBC Music Magazine asked 174 world-class composers to rank composers using a composite of originality, impact, and craftsmanship, the preeminent maestro was clear: Johann Sebastian Bach. His “spirit dwells in practically every note written since his death,” the magazine staff wrote. When the chief music critic of the New York Times ranked historical composers, the top spot went to: Bach. Classic FM: Bach. Big Think: Bach. As 20th Century composer Mauricio Kagel put it: “Not all musicians believe in God, but they all believe in Johann Sebastian Bach.” What fragments of his life are known, though, aren’t as dramatic as the Beethoven and Mozart stories. Here’s a lot of it: he was very religious; he spent much of his career as the musical director at St. Thomas Church, in Leipzig, Germany; he had 20 children (7 with his first wife before she died), only half of whom survived into adulthood. And along the way he laid a foundation for the future of music, Beethoven and Mozart included.
  16. Less heat and less people I could see being way more enjoyable.
  17. Unpopular opinion, but I thought the San Diego Zoo was overrated. Too crowded and weird layout. Enjoyed the Cincy and Ft. Worth Zoo more. I'd skip the zoo unless you just have a burning desire and/or have kids.
  18. I went down a druski rabbit hole and started watching classics:
  19. The Peter O'Toole monologue is easily the best singular example of writ Ping and execution to the storyline in Pixar history.
  20. I remember telling my wife, I just pray my sons aren't short. They come from a long line of 6'0 or taller and it's just a privilege that is underrated. It's never the tall ones that are weirdo incels, is it? It's always the 5'8 Eliot Rodgers of the world it seems like.
  21. I remember reading that is exactly why they target people with No Soliciting signs. The idea being, if someone has to put that up it's to protect themselves (or a husband fed up with his gullible wife) and that you hit those houses the hardest.
  22. If you are unaware of Druski, I feel sorry for you. But his latest has me WHEEZING:
  23. In other news: Soon, you may be able to catch your favorite HBO show on ... Netflix? Warner Bros. Discovery is in talks to license certain original HBO programs to Netflix, according to various outlets, including Deadline. The arrangement would "mark the first time in nearly a decade" HBO content made the leap to a rival streamer, Deadline notes. Issa Rae's "Insecure" is reportedly part of the discussions, which sources say is a revenue play opposed by some from HBO. Still, it fits with Warner CEO David Zaslav's push to better monetize the firm's vast library. While Netflix may gain HBO titles, it's poised to lose "The Watcher" and "American Horror Story" producer Ryan Murphy. He is reportedly leaving for Disney, a move that will reunite him with Disney Entertainment co-chair Dana Walden, who headed 20th Century Fox TV before Disney bought it in 2019.
  24. In the absence of any Hollywood news with the strike being old news, this is interesting: https://puck.news/de-niro-and-the-nastiest-assistant-legal-saga-ever/ The 158 page judgment of DeNiro vs his assistant he sued for $6mm was just unsealed and makes for an interesting read.
