  1. My story is lame and yes I'm a lame newbie fan, but the Manchester City 2011 title run was actually covered somewhat by ESPN and as a Philly guy, I can relate to a fan base that really cares but suffers for decades. So I was happy for City that year and since have realized that they are simply fun to watch. They don't dive or play dirty, they certainly don't park the bus. I admit I can't make myself care all that much when they lose. I'm sure they have garbage local fans and I know they're owned by a Middle East monarch so that's not as easy to brush off as a US slimy car dealer type. I've read about the salary accusations and to me it comes off like SEC teams bitching at each other (also why is this not better regulated?). Bottom line, the quality of play in EPL is outstanding and the commercial free broadcasts are a great way to start weekend mornings. It's fun to have a team to root for and I don't blame anyone for picking top 6 to stay interested all year. I'll save my hate for Mets/Cowboys/Celtics/NYR.
  2. Tirico said six injuries, none serious. This was about 30 min after players had left course
  3. Pretty sure most restaurants offer full menu at the bar, as lots of people do exactly what you're describing. It will be more crowded on a Friday night of course. Craftsteak is right there, I haven't been in years but it used to be terrific.
  4. ^ That's how I read it at this point. On #6 above, the van could have even been turning right onto 2222, same direction as Ced, and still wouldn't have been enough time for him to stop from a high speed.
  5. Mt Bonnell / 2222 is a traffic light - either the bike or minivan must have run a red light, I guess? Even late at night I doubt that signal would be blinking yellow
  6. "Jawn" is a local Philly term (for basically any noun). With all due respect to the gravity of this situation...LOL at Jawn Wick trending
  7. Free Meek is well done, fascinating story. Actually the story may be too bizarre to really drive home any deep message about the criminal justice system as a whole. But they keep it suspenseful, and I usually hate re-enactments but in this show they are just little snippets that help tell the story.
  8. Out here for a couple nights. That pedestrian bridge is nowhere near done imo, they still have to do the entire exterior of it. Walked through re-done Park MGM for first time, they really went all in on Eataly upscale food court. Like I don't recognize a lot of menu items with their Italian names. Park casino feels smaller, like they are emphasizing drinking and entertainment for the pre- and post-show and NHL crowds.
  9. Main show is at Magic Kingdom, not that you should adjust your routine in any case. I think SEC Nation will be at the stadium in the morning
  10. The GT-Clemson game is Thursday night. It's the launch of the ACC Network so they have to throw everything out there. ESPN announced weeks ago the Saturday show will be in Fort Worth. I would definitely bet on Austin for LSU regardless.
  11. Judah and the Lions started as a Christian rock group in Nashville. From their wiki: The band wrote that their music has the "grit of Run DMC or Beastie Boys" but played on folk instruments.[12] MacDonald said he was influenced by Kendrick Lamar and the Beatles.[7]
  12. Team should ride Bird scooters out and leave them lying at midfield As a homeless encampment springs up in the NW end zone
  13. That text was talking about Ryan Day getting the NFL offer
  14. ChiSox win after 1-2-3 bottom of the 15th. Kapler always seems to manage us into shorthanded, walk the tightrope situations. A lot of that was Hector Neris serving his suspension for taunting the best team in the NL, but still bad managing
  15. And then Vince ends the inning with a diving catch in LF. This is ridiculous...unfortunately for us Phils fans our offense is ass and the ChiSox still have a ML pitcher in the game so this is probably over
  16. Holy fuck Vince damn near did the same thing in the 15th - perfect throw but just a fraction late. Had to be reviewed but he was safe
  17. Not sure the last time a pitcher had an assist from left field, but Vince Velasquez just threw a seed to nail Jose Abreu at the plate with what was possibly the winning run in the top of the 14th. That set up a match up of OF Roman Quinn PITCHING to relief pitcher Carson Fulmer with two on, two out. Fulmer ripped one to 3rd but a nice play ends the inning.
  18. Hope Ken Rosenthal read that, his column bemoans the lack of activity and basically smacks down the wild card contenders for being too passive. Said they should act like "passionate fans" which imo would be disastrous. A playoff team becoming a clear WS favorite is more valuable than a .500-ish team making a case to host a WC game.
  19. Showcase Mall, really? It should be free to cross in that direction and $2 toll to come back to civilization
  20. I'll be there in two weeks, fuck this... (but glad I found @BarkAndreFurry tagged here)
  21. I usually roll my eyes when someone posts a travel location and all of Surly comes back with why they need to go to someplace different. But in this case it's probably true. Honolulu, especially Waikiki, is Times Square with an ocean. Crowded and expensive, everything you do has to be planned and will take longer than it should. It's easy enough to fly there and jump to a different island, or drive to North Shore or one of the eastern Oahu spots. Pearl Harbor is worth a visit for a half day though.
  22. Some teams are buyers, some are sellers and some are cockblockers
  23. Idea 1 - Scheduling alliances: only matters for top teams, and they can already schedule who they want Idea 2 - Big 12 and/or Pac 12 expand: yawn, whether it happens or not...no attractive program is available Idea 3 - Bluebloods go independent: Would have happened by now if it was viable...can't forget other sports Idea 4 - New 65-team FB alliance: Could happen, but if you do this you might as well just aim big and do... Idea 5 - Smaller "Premier" alliance: Hard to see it happening now, but it makes the most sense As Karl Benson said, the school name would be on the uniform but that's the only connection. It's kind of the case today whether we admit it or not. If the presidents realized they could make way more money, have a better product on the field and not have to keep up the academic charade (including Title IX), maybe they would take the plunge. I don't know enough about the macroeconomics of higher education in general, which I assume comes into play before any new paradigm can come into being. There may be public funding or antitrust issues that prevent Idea 5 from getting off the ground.
  24. 40 minutes for Eddie was nice, I found him more interesting than funny but that's fine. Lots of Cosby talk there, and a little more in the Seth Rogen episode. Rogen describes a "what could have been" all-time comedy moment w/Will Ferrell, and the producers found the footage for the post-credit quickie shot. Show seems to be using more graphics/supporting video than the past, and it helps.
  25. Interesting. I would think the national name exposure would be a boon for applications for several years. But obviously the show turns over the academic rocks and that is never gonna be pretty. Plus the show really needs at least one psycho alpha character, preferably the coach. Hope it comes back someplace
