  1. Vox reviewer saw first three eps: "Serves up an agenda and little else" There are some spoilers in the article, but even from episode one you can tell they spend a lot of time coloring in the backstories and not a ton of time analyzing the evidence or court proceedings.
  2. My old avatar will work again! Plus my $25 Chinese knockoff jersey from like 10 years ago
  3. Amazing how much money and effort gets spent on a piece that just gets tossed aside. Might have been the funniest part of the show. You could tell right away Idris just wasn't comfortable with the live stuff.
  4. Embiid quite possibly back Sunday for a huge game vs. Pacers. The schedules set up so PHI still should get up to the 3 seed and have a winnable first series assuming no further injuries (could really use Boban back too). But there are definitely non-injury problems. Redick may be toast, and Butler hasn't been scoring either. That exposes Simmons even more, he needs 3-4 quality shooters on the floor with him otherwise you just sit back and don't let him blow by for a dunk.
  5. Meant to say that money or not, the Phillies need to get better to contend with Yankees for players. If that happens in the next year or two, then they can probably get Trout even without going far beyond the NYY offer.
  6. More stolen bases? How many SB reviews come down to an inch or two? Also more batted balls hitting bases, though that would be pretty negligible. Maybe they feel it's safer for runners and fielders to have a larger space.
  7. Home town discount in Trout's case means he'll come to Philly if the offers are roughly the same. Usually you have to way outbid the Yankees. At the moment, NYY is still in a better position because they have recent playoff appearances and a young nucleus. The Phillies are still climbing out from a decade of bad drafts and development. This will be a vital year to show improvement.
  8. Gotta keep bumping this. "Waiting for the Artist" might be the best episode they've done in the series. A profile of performance artists played by Cate Blanchett and Fred Armisen.
  9. Catdaddy, just go read an article from the beginning of all this. The FBI is within its jurisdiction and people are going to jail for crimes. Let's not nudge this to a cloak room topic because you think they should have other priorities.
  10. Our spot is Cape May at the southern tip of New Jersey. Less than 90 min drive from PHL airport. Not overrun by any annoying types. Even if you hate Philly sports, you'll see lots of shirts and hats but it's not the obnoxious fans. Nice beaches, great bars/restaurants, easy walking/driving/biking everywhere. About 15 minutes from Wildwood boardwalk which is rowdier but has rides, etc. But Hilton Head is great too - I haven't been in so long I can't recommend anything specific.
  11. It's still a week ahead of when Boras/Arietta signed last year. Not sure any team is needy enough to give those guys long term (5+) deals. Some writers tweeted the Nationals were in talks with Kimbrel, but no way they get it done under the luxury tax which was a priority for them.
  12. Both Mulaney shows the last two seasons have been great
  13. That Kane pic everything is perfectly legal, yes? Hard to see the line but looks like no one else in the box
  14. Co-op episode is impressive in its dedication to the subject. Probably a niche audience, I wasn't familiar with Company which is the show they are mocking. But I could still tell they were crushing it. Taran Killam and John Mulaney among others in the cast
  15. I assume it means you can't pummel him before the ball is even getting close, even if he's offsides? The Kane play he sure looked like he was "attempting to play the ball" as he got shoved
  16. Philly=San Diego. I mean, I gotta respect the New Yorkiness of that post... that's why I aways go for NYY>BOS
  17. Oh he'll get a huge ovation at Nationals Park. Seems to be at least 30 pct Phillies fans even in the recent down years That was LOL about the batteries...hopefully by then we're throwing micro-solar panels instead though
  18. Harper is all over the board - tons of strikeouts, bad defense but great walk rate and will always hit bombs. It's not like he's been in a bad lineup. I'm hoping Citizens Bank Park helps him with both HRs and defense (more playable corner spots). There's no way it's a bad contract unless he gets major injuries in the early years. A lot of people (inc. national media) thought he would average more than $35 million over 10 years. This is like $33 million over 10 years plus three years free! This also makes Trout to Philly (his hometown, just across the river) a very real thing from both a trade and FA perspective for the next couple years. Y'all are going to get sick of media talking about it, will he go home or take a Yankee mega-mega-deal? The Phillies still have challenges. Rotation isn't really playoff-worthy. Minor league system very sparse which hurts in terms of trade chips and also just general depth. But man it's good to be able to believe for the first time in almost a decade.
  19. Good call on Cespedes, who is repped by Roc Nation. He signed for 3/75 in 2016 and for one year, both sides were thrilled with it. So before 2017, they made it 4/110 and that has been a disaster. Mets have to sit there while he gobbles up payroll, YC has to worry about his long term prospects. Of course injuries are unpredictable, but have to figure Harper and the Dodgers have reasons not to do a high dollar, short term deal. It's probably obvious I'm trying to talk myself into Harper/Phillies still happening. But if he and his family are dead set on going west (or Yankees), so be it.
  20. OK, here's Ken Rosenthal from Feb 1 of this year. My point is if the Dodgers were willing to do a mega deal, why not get in on Harper earlier? It's rare to see a team totally change course in late February. So this might just be a Boras ploy to raise the Phillies price. I also think he'd be OK with Philly but his family really wants to get him west.
  21. Here's what I'm referring to via LA Times - might just be paying lip service but it was a stated goal by ownership
  22. I'm thinking that if he gets $40 mil or more this year, Dodgers could also get hit with the penalty of 10 draft spots lower, and create a scenario where that would also happen in subsequent years, when they would also get dinged even more for repeat overages. Y'all are correct, it's certainly doable. I just think it would be a surprising change of direction from the rest of their offseason.
  23. On the Dodgers short term offer to Harper: Wouldn't it be a luxury tax disaster even in year one? But especially in the latter years, and this is a team trying to rein in financial troubles Is there a recent MLB example of one the highest paid players on a good team being on a short term deal? I can't think of any
  24. It was entertaining enough, and well acted. At this point, we know the formula for the show and part of that is it peaks early and goes downhill when the core storyline doesn't pay off: ridiculous climax (S1), incomprehensible (S2) and now boring/blah (S3). I hope HBO doesn't order another season, because I'll watch but don't trust it.
