  1. The moderation wasn't their choice. The SEC has had rules against artificial noisemakers since the 70s and MSU violated the rules anyway and the conference never did anything because it was Miss St. Then around the time of whichever World Cup that was where the Vuzuvula became a thing that Americans found out about, some fans of other schools started bringing them to games and the conference decided they had to finally enforce the rule, so they came up with some weird compromise where artificial noisemakers are illegal for everyone but Miss. St. but they have strict rules on when they can use them, like they have to stop clanga once the ball is set, etc.
  2. It wasn't until 4 years ago that they officially lifted prohibition statewide. Before then a dry county could arrest you for possession.
  3. Try to soak in the fact that they have an entire process of when they are allowed to clanga. They'll have videos on the board with instructions on when to put them down, etc. It's very surreal. And wear earplugs.
  4. The entire state is majorly lacking for craft beer. Until about 15 years ago, they had super restrictive laws that essentially made it impossible to produce alcohol in the state. Even homebrewing was illegal. And half of the counties are still dry. So even though it's now legal at a state level, it still an uphill battle to start a brewery, even in a college town.
  5. I will say that when you are tailgating before hand they are all very proud to show off their cowbells, how they are painted and the leather holsters they have made for them. It would be a very cool tradition if not for the actual clanga.
  6. For every roadtrip, we shoot to find craft beer and BBQ. Starkville is the only road game so far where we weren't able to find a brewery in town or even nearby. They have one, Mayhew Junction, that has been "about to open" for at least 8 years now. We ended up flying in and out of Birmingham and driving which thankfully does have both beers and bbq. For the most part, the campus is boring though they do have a beautiful quad area with some nice buildings. We didn't have any real issues parking on campus. Oddly enough, lots of MSU fans simply park on the side of the freeway. I guess so they can get a jump on heading home? The stadium is ok, but it's a horseshoe and the guest seats are on one extreme end. We got stuck at a pinchpoint and instead of fighting the tide of fans trying to go the other way, just entered on the other end of the horseshoe not realizing that there is no way to get to the other side without circling the entire stadium once inside. The endzone without seats is completely cut off from normal ticket holders. The folks were nice. This was right after we hired Mullen so they were pumped for revenge and all wanted to talk about him and how long they thought he would last before he quit. The cowbells sucked. Bring earplugs.
  7. Yeah, I wouldn't mind if Malachowsky gave some cash to Florida football, but would rather it go to super computers.
  8. Not sure if Buddy Martin has any real sources anymore. He is/was a real journalist and was the go-to for the feel good books about each coach back in the day. Pretty sure I have books by him on Spurrier and Meyer. At this point, he's in his 80s and I'm not sure he really is connected. That could easily just be the number that Sexton's people leaked out there.
  9. Have you seen the schedule? It shouldn’t be a miracle to win out.

He's only making $2.5M at SMU. I don't think double or triple is a problem for Arkansas.

Just can't find a decent barber to save his life. Sucks to be him.
  12. Oh I hate all of it. I still remember when it was a big deal that Spurrier became the highest paid coach in college at $2M/year. I think I'm just numb to it at this point.
  13. Depends on who you are comparing too. But yeah, it does add up. McElwain was I think $7.5 M and Mullen was $12. On the flipside, we made out on the basketball deal. Mike White bailed for Georgia before we fired him, so instead of paying him $3.5M, he had to pay us $1.25M

Do you think they will strike out with Lashlee?

That's one of the other asshole things he does. He's spent plenty of time trashing Florida while still cashing those checks knowing that no one at Florida is going to respond.

The bad season wasn't the reason he was fired. It's what led up to and caused the bad season. The program was incredibly toxic with Mullen. People within the organization didn't like him. He was simply an asshole. No one wanted to work for him so it was a constant battle to get good assistants. Florida would make a good hire but they would leave as soon as something better came along. The ones who stuck around were the ones who were also assholes or just couldn't get jobs other places because they weren't very good like Todd Grantham. Mullen wanted out. In 2020, he basically put in for every NFL job and stopped caring at Florida. He completely gave up on recruiting because he simply didn't like recruiting and figured it was the next guy's problem. After the implosion at the end of 2020 as well as getting no job offers, he just started waiting for his buyout. I recall speaking to Miss St fans after we hired him and they predicted it would go down this way.

    Do tell.
  18. Same with Mullen and McElwain. Thankfully none were prohibitively large.
  19. It looks like with Texas, students have the Big Ticket that they pay for to get into athletic events, vs. Florida where everything is covered by the activity fee except football. Thankfully, either/or is a minimal expense for students. I hope they continue to encourage a big student section.
  20. Does Texas not have an athletic fee? AFAIK, the fee is still fairly minimal (a couple bucks per credit hour) and covers free admission to everything but football, offers discounted football tickets, and pays for stuff like intramural sports and gyms.
  21. They will arise like Uruk-hai in the mud.
  22. Glad it's comparatively small because half is due in 30 days. The rest paid out in yearly installments the next 4 years.
  23. Florida had an insanely tough 4 game stretch and only one of those was at home, so it makes sense that that was the focus. Napier has three or four top 10 wins at home, but no top 25 wins on the road.
