  1. Think it's a reservation-only thing now that is held on certain dates. https://hilo.hawaii.edu/maunakea/kuene/stargazing.php The wife and I went up to Mauna Kea this past May during daylight hours, and we both agreed it was definitely worth it. Doing a nightime stargazing trip would be an awesome experience. Definitely try to acclimate at the visitors center before attempting to drive up to the summit. I've hiked and backpacked at high elevation on numerous occasions in the past with no effects, but going up to Mauna Kea summit sure gave me the dizzies, and that was after spending 1-2 hours down at the visitors center.
  2. Seeing Billy Squier mentioned on the "albums with no bad songs" thread (!) reminded me that he would be on my list of worst concerts I've ever seen. There was a distinct lack of energy and enthusiasm even during his hits. A past-its-prime Nazereth opened. It was pretty bad. Joe Jackson is on the list as well. He seemed to be perturbed that the audience was there. Billy Boy Arnold at Antone's -- apparently he decided that particular date was "act like a jackass day." Who you got?
  3. Well, so could anyone.
  4. Merry Christmas, you assholes
  5. Yeah, "favorite" isn't necessarily the same as "greatest." "Surrender" by Cheap Trick is one of my all-time faves, but I don't think I'd put it in a list of "top 10 rock and roll songs of all time." Then again, maybe I would . . .
  6. He has definitely come on big toward the end of the season, which is great to see. At the start of the season, he was merely okay -- he didn't flash much at all and Lole was definitely ahead of him in the rotation. But Norton has gotten better and better as the season progressed to the point now that he's a force in the middle of the line, particularly against the run. Credit to him, Kenny Baker, and the rest of the defensive staff for his development throughout the season.
  7. It was definitely aggy intelligence. No such thing.
  8. Out of curiosity, what's the secondary on RHF?
  9. That was Slim Whitman.
  10. Slim toughed it out a long time after his stroke. RIP
  11. Doing prime rib on the Weber bullet for Xmas this year, so I need to read this thread. Fingers crossed it turns out okay. Will definitely use JimmyJazz's pilfered horseradish cream sauce recipe.
  12. You're not too far off. I cheated and looked it up via Google Image. I only recognized Ruth, Mack and Wagner before doing so.
  13. I take that seriously because if anyone knows boring, it's Canadians. That said, I'm not bored. Then again, I'm a Vikings fan.
  14. Believe me, I could spend WEEKS seeing stuff in and around DC -- all the monuments/memorials, the museums, Civil War battlefields, Ford's Theater, Shenandoah Valley, Annapolis, all the stuff to see in Baltimore, etc., etc., but we'll probably only have a couple days of extra time on this trip because of my wife's work obligations, so unfortunately we won't have time to venture outside of the immediate area. Someday . . .
  15. I suspect that our time that isn't earmarked for the graduation ceremony will probably be spent in that same area, i.e., in and around the Mall -- seeing what we can of the monuments, the Smithsonian, the Capitol, etc., because the wife has never been to DC before and hasn't done all those touristy things.
  16. I need to take some time and review this thread, but in the meantime I could use some advice/recommendations. The wife is finishing up her master's degree at GWU and wants to walk in the graduation ceremony next May, partly because it's held on the National Mall and partly because it makes for a good excuse to take a short trip to DC in mid-May next year. We typically try to rent on Airbnb or VRBO instead of doing hotels, so that's the plan at present, but let me know if you think a hotel somewhere near the Mall would be a better idea. Her daughter will likely come down from NYC to join us that weekend, so doing the Airbnb thing makes sense from that standpoint, too. Assuming we stick with the Airbnb plan, what area(s) in or around DC would you recommend? Which areas should we stay the hell away from? If we decide to go with a hotel, what would you recommend? I'll review the thread for recs on restaurants and bars, but feel free to throw those in as well if you feel inclined. TIA
  17. I think you're right -- just meant that Bellinger was probably the only other player on the roster even potentially in that conversation.
  18. As a Cubs fan, I've got mixed feelings about this trade. On one hand, it's great to get a player who immediately becomes the best player on the team (assuming the Cubs move Bellinger as rumored). And Chicago needed lefty power if they do, in fact, trade Bellinger. OTOH, unless they can extend Tucker, it's probably a one-year rental. I also think Cam Smith is going to be a good player at some point. But to get someone like Tucker, it was going to take a prospect like Smith. Don't be shocked if Paredes, a dead pull hitter, goes for 30+ dingers with that short leftfield distance in Minute Maid. I'd say this one is TBD
  19. You might be thinking of the 2015 Okie State game, where he botched the deep snap late in the game. But we had problems other than Dickson in that game -- the refs being at the top of that list.
