  1. We hit Shadowbrook in Capitola for dinner one night. Fun place. You can take a funicular to get from the parking lot to the restaurant. Food was a B+ and the unique layout of the place makes it worth visiting at least once, IMO.
  2. Are you asking why it is legal to own a vehicle capable of reaching speeds of 180 miles per hour?
  3. Shouldn't take long to spread westward from Georgia to Texas. https://www.yahoo.com/news/invasive-yellow-legged-hornet-spotted-010456694.html
  4. Or to a cross of Kentucky Bluegrass, Featherbed Bent, and Northern California Sinsemilla.
  5. If I'm in a restaurant that has Yuengling as its darkest beer, then I am in the wrong restaurant. And I am also switching my beer order to red wine.
  6. This fucking pisses me off on multiple levels. So some fucking moron in the LVPD didn't dot the i's and cross the t's on the blood draw, which potentially weakens the legal case, which leads the DA to chicken out and agree to 3-10 such that stupid motherfucker Ruggs will be eligible for parole in 3. Or maybe the DA's office is blowing smoke to cover its own ass in some fashion. Either way, it's galling. And don't even get me started on the level of stupidity it takes to get behind the wheel while drunk and roll on city streets doing 156 mph. The lady and her dog BURNED ALIVE. And this motherfucker gets 3-10. https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/38162272/ex-raiders-wr-henry-ruggs-iii-sentenced-3-10-years-fatal-dui
  7. The last time I skied PT it was still Squaw. Outstanding place. I don't know what they've done with it in the last 5+ years, but the times I've been there the skiing was top notch. My favorite place to ski in/near Tahoe along with Kirkwood. KWood is a bit of a schlep from the lake, but worth it IMO. Heavenly is fun too -- can ski both sides of the state line. Tubing the Truckee is fun. Yes, water will be cold, but the one time I tubed with my son and one of his buddies, we got accustomed to it once we were in for a little while. Pack a lunch unless you're doing some kind of float where they provide the food. Downtown Reno has seen better days. It's kind of run down. There's a Basque restaurant down there called Louis' that is really good, though.
  8. Laz Diaz is turrrible, but that was not a blown call. It was a pretty damn good pitch. Boone going off the rez over it is about par for the course.
  9. Best thing about Oakland's stadium = the short beer lines. Giants stadium is a lot of fun. Took the ferry over from the Oakland side to the ballpark one time, which sure as shit beat trying to get over there in a car or the BART. Also, the wife (no pics) and I are heading up to the Santa Cruz Mountains area in a couple weeks for a few days Staying in Los Gatos, but will be spending our time either up in the mountains checking out wineries and redwoods or near the coast in Santa Cruz/Capitola. Have dinner reservations for two of the three nights, so looking for recs anywhere in that general area. Also, itinerary isn't totally mapped out, so if you have suggestions about stuff to do/see around there, lay 'em on me.
  10. Absolutely no reason to suspend him for those comments. WTF is the Baltimore ownership thinking?
  11. Here's his website if you want to check out some of his other songs. https://www.colegallagher.com/
  12. Full disclosure: I've known this young man, Cole Gallagher, since he was a pup and I'm friends with his mom and dad. Cole just put out an EP called The Confluence, and I've been listening to it today. I think it's pretty damn good. David Hidalgo (Los Lobos) plays accordian and sings on one of the tunes (which was actually cut a couple years ago). Jimbo Hart and some of the other guys in the 400 Unit play on it as well (Jimbo produced some of Cole's earlier songs). The song below is the first song on the EP. I would describe his music as Americana -- definitely influenced by heartland rock, roots, and a bit of country.
  13. Actually, 36-15, but who's counting? [*I am*]
  14. Fair enough. I don't agree with everything you wrote, but I definitely agree that if the ump had issued warnings after the pitch that was high and tight, Mikolas almost certainly wouldn't have hit Happ with the next pitch. Fortunately, it looks like Contreras isn't too much the worse for wear -- I see he's back in the lineup.
  15. Yes, I do. Wow. If it had been intentional, I could understand plunking him. But it was clearly unintentional. A little chin music on the next pitch? Fine. But it should have been left at that. That said, I tend to agree that the umps should have issued warnings instead of running Mikolas. But when the plunking is clearly intentional, the umps have the right to give him the heave with no prior warning, so they were within the rules to do what they did.
  16. This is a good move. It would be tough to measure the size of the hole the Cubs were dealing with at 3B.
  17. Bountygate, mostly. I'm a Vikings fan, so I'm not favorably inclined toward the Saints in general. Or anyone who was associated with their '09 team.
