  1. I can't say his comment is wrong, but fuck Sean Payton anyway.
  2. Damn you. Came here to post this.
  3. I initially read the final sentence of that tweet as sarcasm, but, holy shit, maybe that was wishful thinking on my part. Can't believe anyone would try to condone putting other people at risk just for a sick dog. Sounds to me like he was trying to come up with an excuse -- any excuse -- to give to the LEO to rationalize driving like a complete fucking idiot.
  4. +1. Cracked a bottle last night. Pretty hot on the first couple sips. One small ice cube leveled it off nicely. Definite cherry bomb. Kudos to Bert
  5. The Revenant is more directly based on the grizzly mauling of Hugh Glass, his miraculous survival, and his efforts to track down the two men who left him alone to die. But Jedediah Smith was indeed a certified badass.
  6. RIP. Lived a long and full life. Great voice.
  7. Someday I will make it to the Cosmic Campground in western New Mexico during a no moon/new moon phase to check out one of the darkest night skies in the lower 48. Oh, yes I will. https://www.darksky.org/our-work/conservation/idsp/sanctuaries/cosmiccampground/ https://www.fs.usda.gov/recarea/gila/recarea/?recid=82479
  8. I agree -- the museum is good. And I forgot about the bar. Has a speakeasy feel to it. Convenient way to grab a drink and relax after going through the museum.
  9. Besides the usual options of air-conditioned casinos and pools/cabanas, here a couple ideas. If you're into gangsters, the Godfather, Goodfellas, etc., the Mob Museum downtown is interesting . . . and air-conditioned. Another option is to drive up to the Mt. Charleston area and do some hiking. The drive doesn't take that long -- maybe 45 minutes or so from the Strip depending on traffic. It will still be warm even at that elevation (7500+ feet), but it will be at least 20 degrees cooler up there than down in the valley. (P.S.: I see bigup2dahorns beat me to the Mt. Charleston rec. Listen to that man.) The recs others have given you re: Lotus are spot-on.
  10. Color me jealous. Would love to take a chunk of time and just drive around the country seeing shit. If/when you make it out to California, check out the Eastern Sierra/Highway 395/Owens River Valley part of the state. Most people head for LA, SF, Napa, Highway 1, San Diego, Santa Barbara, Disneyland, Yosemite, and all the other touristy areas of CA. But the Eastern Sierra is one of my favorite places in the state. The scenery is great, and there are several off-the-beaten-path places to explore. Check out Bodie, which is a mining ghost town that has been preserved and is now a state park. It's a cool place to walk around and explore. There's Mono Lake, with its weird-looking tufas. The area around June Lake and Mammoth Lakes is gorgeous. Take your RV on the 203 through Mammoth Lakes and go see Devil's Postpile. Lots of hiking in that area. South of Mammoth Lakes there is more great hiking, fishing, rock climbing, etc. Stop in Bishop for a sandwich at Erick Schat's Bakery or Mahogany Smoked Meats. Or at least some jerky at Mahagony. South of Bishop is Big Pine. East of that town, up in the White Mountains, is the Ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest. Do the Methuselah Loop hiking trail and by the end of it you'll be able to say that you've laid eyes on the oldest known and confirmed living non-clonal organism in the world -- one of the trees on that loop is the old guy (the park and rangers won't identify the particular tree for fear that knuckleheads will vandalize it). The road getting up to the forest is narrow and even unpaved at the end, but I seem to recall seeing RVs on it. Check with the rangers first to make sure I wasn't imagining things. South of Big Pine is Independence. Tiny little town with a big Neoclassical courthouse -- where Charlie Manson had his first prelim after getting arrested in Death Valley for possession of stolen property and vandalism after the Tate/LaBianca murders. Across the street is a cool old hotel (the Winnedumah). South of Independence is Manzanar NHS, where Japanese-Americans were interned during WWII. Well worth spending a few hours there. South of that is Lone Pine and the Alabama Hills, where hundreds of movies have been filmed over the years. It's easy to drive around the Hills and admire the scenery, which includes Mt. Whitney. There's a fun little film museum in town, which of course focuses on the films that have been made in the area. Alabama Hills Cafe is good for lunch. Southeast of Lone Pine -- if you head toward Death Valley NP on highways 126 and 190 -- you can see The Joshua Tree shrine just off Highway 190. Even if you're not a fan of U2, it's kind of fun to park just off the highway, traipse about a quarter of a mile (or less) to the south and find the shrine. U2 fans have left all kinds of stuff at the site of the joshua tree that was pictured on the 1987 album. (The tree itself is down.) Kind of a fun thing to do; a bit of a challenge to find, but not too hard. I wouldn't try to do it now, though, with temps around 120-125 degrees in the afternoon in that area. Wait until late October or November, or the spring.
  11. You never been to this place?
  12. 14-foot female Burmese python sitting on 100+ eggs. And they aren't gonna kill her. Gonna insert a GPS tracking device into her so that she'll lead hunters to more snek. https://www.yahoo.com/lifestyle/watch-florida-snake-hunter-capture-160000715.html
  13. Yep. Add the likes of Sam Houston State, Lamar, Northwestern State, Nicholls State, and Western Carolina to that murderers' row. Yes, folks, these are all teams aggy has played in the last 10 seasons. Any decent, reasonable fan would be embarrassed if their school scheduled such a succession of cupcakes, but aggy is neither decent nor reasonable.
  14. I've never had the 120 -- only the 60 and 90. And while I thought they were fine, let's just say I was somewhat underwhelmed.
  15. I agree with the first sentence. I'll drink a cold pilsner when it's hot outside, but aside from that I don't drink many pilsners. Or other lagers, for that matter.
  16. And you know damn well that just 12 months ago, 100% of those inbred idiots were saying that Haynes King, who made a scarecrow look chiseled, was SEC ready.
  17. Time to use the back door [*thatswhatshesaidgif*]
  18. Record 19 foot long Burmese python in FL. https://www.yahoo.com/news/florida-duo-captures-states-longest-135400551.html
  19. Damn, forgot about that. Pisses me off even more that Texas let them off the hook last season.
