  1. Fast forward to the 1:15 mark to avoid the pre-song chatter and interpreter. I've always kind of liked Roddy Frame's take on VH's hit.
  2. Next time, think it threw before you post.
  3. When Cheap Trick put this album out in 1997, the band hadn't released a really good, cohesive album since the early 80's, IMO, and arguably not since Dream Police in 1979. Between 1982 and 1997, they had the occasional hit and some good songs here and there, but their albums were inconsistent or (in some instances, such as The Doctor) downright bad. But this one was a roaring return to form. Too bad their label went under right after it was released, which totally screwed any promotion an otherwise stellar album should have received. I dug pretty much everything R.E.M. did up through Automatic for the People, but after that my interest started dropping off. I like some of their post-AFTP stuff, but much of it is meh. However, I thought their last album, Collapse Into Now, was really good. Maybe knowing they were going to be calling it quits motivated them. I think the Johnny Cash example noted above is a good one, too. Also, after slogging through much of the 70's with spotty results, the Kinks put out Low Budget, which rocked. Their next two albums were pretty good, too.
  4. When I was 30 and in reasonably good shape, I did the south rim to the bottom and back in one day. This was in April and the weather wasn't too warm, but I nevertheless bonked as I got close to the rim on the trek back up. That last mile or so SUCKED. Unfortunately, my time in GCNP was so long ago that I don't really have recommendations . . . other than don't do a down-and-back in warm weather and don't do it unless you're in good shape. The elevation loss/gain is no joke.
  5. Clearly a walk, but it's a cold day in hell when they call traveling in the NBA anymore.
  6. Thought it was interesting that although he singled out Poona Ford, Byron Murphy, and Taquon Graham as the ones who kicked his ass the most in practice and were the toughest to deal with (the "OK, Tope" story involving Ford was funny), he said Cort Jaquess hit him the hardest.
  7. Kinda makes me wish that you had allowed Darwin's theory of natural selection to play out. One less moron in the world to procreate, and the bitchy wife would have had a "nice picture" to remember him by. https://www.instagram.com/touronsofyellowstone
  8. I have friends who live in Crown Point. They've been there 30+ years and love that area. Whenever I visit, it's easy to see why.
  9. My attitude at this point is ABC (Anyone But Celtics).
  10. Ellis was running only one craps table on a Saturday night the last time I was there, which was early December last year. Still like going there for off-Strip gambling. Always seem to walk away even or better.
  11. I think Redwood Empire puts out quality juice for the price based on my own tastings and reviews I've read. I like Lost Monarch quite a bit, esp. for around $33. It's one of my favorite "under $40" bottles. The cask strength Pipe Dream took some getting used to, but it grew on me. Let us know what you think of the rye. Don't think I've seen Rocket Top out in the wild, but I tend to lean toward bourbon instead of rye, so I may have simply overlooked it on the shelf.
  12. If you amend this to refer to small batch select, then I would agree -- at least as to a couple of the 4R single barrel recipes I've tried.
  13. A lot depends on how much you want to spend, of course. As someone just getting started, I think you can get a lot of enjoyment in the $40-80 per bottle range without breaking the bank. It allows you to get a handle on what you like in terms of taste profiles (e.g., sweet vs. spicy, etc.) After that, you can always move up and start spending more per bottle on pricier stuff if you feel like it. Stuff in that range that I happen to like would include: Old Forester 1910 4 Roses Small Batch Select 4 Roses Single Barrel MIchter's American Whiskey Russell's Reserve Single Barrel Pikesville Rye Knob Creek 12 Woodinville Redwood Empire Lost Monarch FWIW, Larceny Barrel Proof (A 124 batch) just got awarded best in class in a big spirits competition, and you can still find that bottle in this range. Store picks are often a good choice in my experience. Not always, but often. There are also decent bottles below $40 if you are selective, but in general I think the $40-80 range is kind of the "sweet spot" for getting good value while still drinking something worthwhile. Other people on this board who know far more about bourbon than me can chime in with additional suggestions.
  14. I think YOU are the winner in that scenario, sir.
  15. All I know is that the recordings he did of Cheap Trick re-doing their second album ("In Color") in 1997 put the original songs to shame.
  16. I disagreed with some of his musical opinions, and the music of the bands he was in didn't really resonate with me. But he had firm principles and was steadfastly true to them, which I respected. I also respected his willingness to record artists in various genres for a flat rate, with his sole aim to capture the artist's sound as purely as possible.
  17. About the time he takes a throw right in his earhole is when he'll stop that nonsense. He's young and he'll learn.
