  1. They can sell all of their classic cars for billions.
  2. Why yes, yes I would.
  3. Is losing $50B in market value good? I guess selling cheap and counterfeit shit is not a long term growth business model. https://fortune.com/2024/08/26/temu-pdd-stock-plunges-government-scrutiny-amazon-rivals/ China fast-fashion retailer Temu soared like a rocket for two years—in just a few hours, its parent company lost more than $50 billion in market value The stock of PDD Holdings, parent company of the fast-growing Temu shopping app, sank more than 30% on Monday, losing more than $50 billion in market value, after the e-commerce giant posted disappointing revenue results and executives warned of rapid competition and nonbusiness challenges that may dampen growth and profits going forward. The Nasdaq-listed company, which is technically headquartered in Ireland but employs most of its workers in China, runs the Chinese online shopping giant Pinduoduo as well as Temu, the discount shopping app that has taken the U.S. and other Western markets by storm since it launched in 2022. But Temu has also faced intense scrutiny by governments, including that of the U.S., over issues ranging from its use of import trade loopholes, to the quality and origins of the products its sellers hawk through its online stores. And those pressures seem to be affecting the company’s outlook. PDD is still scaling incredibly quickly both in China and in other markets, with revenue growing 86% in the second quarter to more than $13.6 billion, but analysts had been expecting more than $14 billion in sales. On top of that revenue miss, PDD executives spooked investors by painting a cloudy picture of future quarters. “Looking ahead, revenue growth will inevitably face pressure due to intensified competition and external challenges,” Jun Liu, PDD’s financial chief, said in a press release. “Profitability will also likely … be impacted as we continue to invest resolutely.” Amazon officials in China recently told merchants there that the U.S. e-commerce giant would soon launch its own low-price storefront. Temu also competes with other e-commerce giants with deep China ties, including fast-fashion titan Shein and TikTok’s rapidly growing Shop marketplace. Though PDD Holdings does not break out Temu’s financial results, executives warned on a call with analysts of “significantly greater uncertainty” in the company’s global business unit, which houses Temu. “Our operations [have] also become increasingly affected by nonbusiness factors,” said co-CEO Lei Chen. “And meanwhile, the competition we face is growing stronger. Competition is here to stay and is expected to intensify in our industry. “These factors combined will inevitably cause fluctuations to our business,” Chen added. “As shown in this quarter’s results, high revenue growth is not sustainable, and a downward trend in profitability inevitable.”
  4. This is why I laugh when Apple and other companies market how secure their customer's data is. It's the apps, stupid. Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, etc all collect location and other data from customers' phones. Websites use cookies to track visitors' usage long after they leave the sites. Those apps and cookies are always running in the background collecting data. Those apps and websites sell that data to anyone who wants it because revenue. Texas, being the bastion of freedom, seems to be a interested buyer of the data, obviously to "identify and disrupt potential domestic terrorism and other mass casualty threats." LOL.
  5. Doesn't get more Dirty 6th than this. No charges for man in wheelchair after woman dies in botched robbery on Sixth Street https://www.kvue.com/article/news/local/homicide-east-sixth-street-downtown-austin-texas-police-department-information/269-ccf09e97-f1ed-4125-9633-e780742bf975 In an update, Austin police said Shannon Smith was found bleeding in an alley on East Sixth and Neches streets just after 1:30 a.m. She was taken to the hospital where she later died from her injuries. During their investigation, police learned Smith was armed with a knife and tried to rob a man in a wheelchair of his money and drugs. The man then hit Smith once with a metal rod he was holding, according to police. Austin police said the man was interviewed and released and that the case is still under investigation by the Travis County District Attorney's office. KVUE spoke with people who are in the area daily about their thoughts on the incident. "I tend to avoid this area when it's dark outside. I like to come around when it's light," said Lucas Paravano, who runs in the area. "I know that Sixth Street is here and some sketchy things can happen, so I just tend to avoid it. Sad to hear, but not surprising." "It's kind of crazy, considering I live about four blocks over," a woman named Madison said. "I hear about a lot of stuff going on in Austin, but to hear how close it was to me is really kind of a little scary."
  6. He sure does talk a lot of shit for a midget.
  7. I bet your wagon was cooler than their ugly wagon.
  8. The sooner we move away from oil, the sooner we can stop giving a shit about that whole region. Their tribal and religious lunacy will keep that region backwards for another 3 hundred years.
  9. So....did you get your putter back without getting raped?
  10. Great for her and the family. Wonderful that she was found safe and unharmed. So...does this mean we can resume making fun of him?
  11. I'm surprised that it took this long to find the vehicle. That thing is unique in its fugliness.
  12. $750 for an inflatable kayak? I think I'll keep my rotomold kayak.
  13. That may be the ugliest station wagon that I've ever seen.
  14. During our last week in Coal Creek Canyons mountains, there were 4 different wildfires happening. One to the south of us west of Golden, and one to the north of us just a couple of mountains over just outside of Boulder. We actually packed up a few days early in case we needed to quickly evacuate the mountain cabin. I did not sleep well the night that the Boulder fire was burning uncontained. That's a long way of say I don't want to live in the mountains where this is a worry every summer. Idaho Springs falls into that concern.
  15. License plate readers are every where. I'm sure LEOs have access to real time nationwide toll cameras and state crossings. If the license plate is read by any of these cameras, LEOs will pretty much immediately know.
  16. What's funny is that she did not say who the "weirdos" are. He answered the fucking call, though. What an insecure little bitch.
  17. I see that some of you like to celebrate premature ejaculation.
  18. Key comments from the reddit thread. https://www.reddit.com/r/europe/comments/1f1fel9/spain_is_offering_nomads_24000_to_relocate_to/ araujoms I've just spent my summer vacations in Extremadura. It's a lovely region. Geography makes the it naturally isolated, and is the root cause of its emptiness. I hope they finish soon the high-speed train line to Madrid, it's taking ages. In the meanwhile attracting a couple of digital nomads would be nice, but clearly it won't solve anything. mrjerichoholic99 who the hell wants to live in extremadura lmao? Echochamberking It has a dry climate, the infrastructure is lousy, the area is poor but in exchange you would live in a quiet area with more or less good internet connectivity and probably the best ham in the world.
  19. Spain is sending out the bat signal. https://www.forbes.com.au/life/lifestyle/heres-how-you-can-get-paid-24000-to-move-to-spain/ Extremadura, Spain is paying people to move there. Here, the local government has allocated €2 million (about AUD$3.44 million) to attract up to 200 digital nomads with grants of up to €15,000 (about AUD$24,789) to move to Extremadura and work. Women and men under the age of 30 can receive €10,000 (about AUD$15,858), while men over 30 years can make €8,000 (about AUD$12,686). After two years, women and men under the age of 30 will get another €5,000 (about AUD$7,929) if they stay in the region for another year. Men over 30 will get an additional €4,000 (about AUD$6,343) after two years and also must stay another year. I did the google maps for you.
  20. Being from Texas, I loved buffalo because it was shit I could not normally purchase. If was on a menu, I would always order it. I spent a month in Colorado and ordered everything buffalo from burgers to steaks. I'm now over buffalo. You know what buffalo tastes like? Cow. I had 3 buffalo steaks (not to mention the 3 other times I got buffalo burgers) from 3 different restaurants. They all tasted exactly like beef, which I guess is the point. But then...why does it cost more? For that reason, I'm sticking with beef because it's basically buffalo and costs less.
  21. For the month of July, I was up the mountains in Coal Creek Canyons just 15 mins west of Arvada. All months, we drove and experienced the front range from Ft Collins down to Golden. Wife and I decided that when we retire, we're moving to Arvada. I want to be close to the mountains but also be close to a major airport, city centers for doctors, and every day conveniences. In Arvada, you are 15 mins from the mountains, 5 mins to Golden, 15 mins to Boulder, 10-20 mins to Denver (depending on where you're going) and 45-50 mins to DIA. Yes I-70 sucks but when we are retired, I won't do I-70 during the weekends. I'll be going up to the mountains during the week and leave the weekends to the Denver people. People bitching about DIA are missing the bigger picture. I fly in and out of small ass airports all the time. From small airports, I can get to the airport 30 mins before my flight and easily get on my plane. But I'm having to make a connection anywhere I go. From DIA, you are flying direct to most US cities that you would want to visit. Fuck connections. I'd rather spend an extra hour through security in DIA than spend 1-3 hours in a connecting airport where I may miss my flight and get stuck there. And then I would still need to fly to the destination. My thoughts on the front range cities. - Golden, the city itself is pretty small. Expensive. - Boulder, great city but it's the most expensive front range city. We would love to retire here but did I mention that it's expensive. - Anything north of Boulder and you are getting further from the mountains. By the time you get to Ft Collins, you are 30-60 mins from the mountains, depending on where you want to go. Also the cities are basically suburbs of Denver/Ft Collins. Not much character. - Ft Collins, we really liked the city. Nice walkable dtown area. We just didn't like how far it was from the mountains. Plus when you go, it'll probably be to Estes and RMNP. That area is a fucking zoo and filled with the Yellowstone tourists type of crowd. I want to do gorgeous hikes with fewer people on the trail. RMNP and that whole area are filled with car hike people, people who won't hike more than a mile from their cars. And there are a fuckton of them. - Arvada is the Goldie Locks of the front range, imo.
  22. They are grasping at straws, throwing all kinds of shit, anything that they stick to the criticize Harris-Walz. Other than dipshit magats, none of this is going to resonate with anyone.
