  1. Going to first TX/OU game in close to 20 years on Saturday. I generally dislike crowds and planned to get to Fair Park no later than 9am. I see the grounds open at 7am, but the website makes it sounds like most rides and food aren't available until 10am. Is that true? I assumed for TX/OU the vendors know people get there early and have things ready to go earlier than that. I really don't remember what time I arrived back in the 90's.
  2. His only problem at school is he's a shit-tastic speller. He's really quite smart. He's goes to math class with the grade above him, and he's reading a grade level ahead. He doesn't have any anger or self-esteem issues at school, at least none that he shows and he wears his emotions on his sleeve. In fact, the teacher talks about what a good leader he is because he helps other kids who are struggling at things and is inclusive of all the kids in the class. We have probed the whole "is he getting bullied" angle, but we're confident that's not happening. And he's a mid-level TaeKwonDo belt and I've explained that he has the green light to use his skills if he, his brothers, or his friends are getting picked on. The real problem is he takes any failure, and i mean any (from not playing well in sports to the slightest reprimand at home) as a personal insult that he is no good. He told me yesterday he thinks he's a bad kid because he gets in trouble so much. He doesn't get in trouble much, but when he does it hurts him so deeply and profoundly. And sometimes he'll flip the fuck out at the slightest bit of punishment, like yesterday. Not like "Chill out and stop being a brat". More like "holy shit who is this kid he's not making any sense". We've talked to him countless times about how great he is, we show him every day, we spend time with him, etc, etc. He has a good home life and lots of friends. My wife and I have talked for a while about how worried we are about his mental trajectory, and the incident yesterday made it clear we need professional help. Sorry for the novel. I appreciate the suggestions
  3. Putting this here rather than the Help board because I think it'll get more eyes. I'm looking for child therapist recs in Austin to help my 8 year old son. He has some anger and self-esteem issues we believe he needs professional help for.
  4. People actually pay for this shit. A successful year is just being able to say "wait until next year!" He's also doubling down on the the whole "players can't have headsets on". At the halfway point of the season, what constitutes a successful year? I think that's very tough to answer, and, I believe, even if you lose, how this team improves and plays against Georgia and LSU has a lot to do with it. I think the bare minimum that you're hoping to see at this point is a 4-4 SEC finish (that means beating Ole Miss on the road and Miss State and South Carolina at home) and winning a bowl game. All things considered, to drop one game off of last year's record against this schedule wouldn't be the end of the world. Not saying that's a 'successful year' because it's not IMO. But I am saying that, when you're set to return as many as 21 of 22 starters (and definitely something close to that) and will soon be starting four true freshmen, it's not going to be the end of the world or derail progress under Jimbo or on the recruiting front.
  5. My sources tell me we're up 2 with 4 to play. That's better than up 1 with 5 to play which is where we were before. But if certain things happen this week that I can't tell you about, we'll only be up 1 with 3 to play. That's still better than up 1 with 5 to play, so things are trending in the right direction.
  6. To this day my friend and I say "Thanks Dan" whenever someone makes a completely obvious observation. Dierdorf was beyond bad.
  7. Was wondering when this was going to happen. London made a lot of sense for BA/OneWorld. Frankfurt made a lot of sense for Lufthansa/Star Alliance. The one that makes the most sense for SkyTeam is KLM to Amsterdam, especially with Delta making an investment in Austin. Been thinking for a year this was going to happen. Exciting to see.
  8. I love how she throws in "if they could take care of the kids that would be great". Uh, lady, you're looking for a Polish nanny that will also clean your house. I don't think you just leave the kids with the housekeeper. Well, maybe Polish ones you do. But who has ever heard of a Polish housekeeper?
  9. This guy is going to end up on the wrong end of a Houston Chronicle obituary soon. I just hope he has enough sense to not harm anyone else on his way out. Oh, and also that he is stupid enough to shine a light on Aggy violations. The other thing I can't help but notice, and this is a little CL, is the comment of disbelief that someone can be a Christian and a liberal. Not worth more comments here, but Jesus this guy is a perfect parody of Aggy.
  10. Hopefully less than the XOM stock I bought a couple of weeks ago at close to 10 year lows
  11. Agreed, but the thing about that trip is that the trains depart and arrive in town, and there really good public transit to get you to your final destination. CDG and Heathrow are complete pain in the asses to get to, and in the middle of nowhere, so putting up with airport-level security is tolerable because ultimately it saves time. It'll be interesting to see how this works, if it ever becomes reality. It basically becomes a slightly more convenient option than flying, depending on where you are coming and going. But with population growth where it is, this seems like a good plan for the future.
  12. John Wick Chapter 4: The Days Inn Chronicles
  13. I'm glad I'm not the only one who feels zero guilt about cranking Eddie Money from time to time. RIP
  14. My list would change based on my mood. Sometimes I just want to laugh for 90 minutes. Sometimes I want to sit and watch a heavy movie for 150 min and eat popcorn and drink beer. I could categorize into 3 main genres, with no particular order for the movies in them, Comedy: Naked Gun, 3 Amigos, Animal House, Coming to America, Tommy Boy Drama: Godfather 1 and 2, Shawshank, Scent of a Woman, Field of Dreams, Usual Suspects Action: Raiders, Episodes 4 and 5, Red October, Beverly Hills Cop, Shooter (I have no idea why I love this movie so much but I can't stop watching when it comes on)
  15. i kept waiting for the dog to mount the goat. I am disappoint
  16. Yep. This is the song I've told my wife to play after I die. I don't want a funeral. Cremate me, then play this song once and swear to remember it every day.
  17. Which boat company did you use for the private tour around Capri? I think there's as many tour companies as there are hotels.
  18. The top was cut off to get the driver out. It wasn't decapitated in the wreck
  19. 1. I don't get it. What am I missing? That's Mike in the visor, right? What's funny about a picture of him looking at a guy to his right? 2. Are analysts really allowed on the field during the game? That seems like coaching.
  20. Now you know how the fish feels motherfucker
  21. I'll never understand why more restaurants don't have biscuits as the bread for benedicts, especially in the south. I make the sub everytime I order, and I get looked at like I'm crazy. "Umm, I'll have to ask the chef if he'll do that."
  22. I had the same thought this morning when I saw the score. I thought to myself he won't make it to game 6. But does firing him mid-season do anything for your program? Who off his bumble-fuck of a staff do you appoint as the interim coach? I think they ride it out.
