  1. Ha! They just love a snow day. They even loved Snowmageddon 2021 and Icepocalypse 2023. Because they got to miss school.
  2. I have no idea what someone might be protesting on dirty 6th, but anyone doing so probably deserves getting run over.
  3. Last week my kids were pissed we don't live in Dallas. Looks like next week they're gonna be pissed we don't live in Houston.
  4. I can remember going through the couch cushions to find change to buy a breakfast coke at the convenience store across from my apartment, I can remember getting free saltines and ketchup at restaurants and mixing with hot water to make "tomato soup," and I can remember feeling elated when ramen went on sale for 7 for $1 instead of the normal 5 for $1. And yet somehow, I also never seemed to miss out on beer and burgers at The Posse or the Crown and Anchor, and regularly consumed my weight in margaritas and smoked chicken enchiladas at Trudy's Texas Star. I guess you gotta have priorities.
  5. Yeah that one was my favorite, too. Showing up, lifting weights, running on the treadmill-- Culture Change!
  6. So, same as they've always done, then.
  7. Well, shaggybevo did warn us that fake cancer is a real problem.
  8. Putting limitations like that on 3rd party NIL wouldn't be any more legal than completely restricting as they did before.
  9. Yeah it was always open to traffic in the 80s/90s/early 2000s. Closing it down to vehicle traffic is a relatively new thing. It started with Halloween, then extended to a few other big party nights, and then ultimately they started doing it every weekend. And back when, it wasn't a real issue. It wasn't until the lurker/loiterer/troublemaker crowd with zero intention of entering the bars, started occupying the street itself, that it became a problem. I think there will be a transition period where that crows still tries to linger, perhaps on side streets, but ultimately without the ability to mass congregate in the most interesting areas of the street, they'll find some other place where they can congregate. Highland Mall is no longer available but Lakeline is half-empty these days...
  10. Aggies, is there anything they don't know about excellent QB play??
  11. Yeah my kids knew at least one food runner that was cut from the Lakeline location. And it sounds like the plan is to cut most/all food runners and put that burden onto the (remaining) wait staff. Guess we'll see how that goes.

    Pizza

They are always do damn high. It's amazing, really, that they ever manage to produce a pizza at all. But I still love it so GD much.
  13. I love U2 The Joshua Tree but absolutely loathe "Bullet The Blue Sky." It's an instant FF/skip for me. Back when I first got it and dubbed my album to cassette tape, I just omitted that song, and then pretty much just listened to my tape all the time. So as much as I love the rest of it, that album doesn't make the "albums with no bad songs" list for me.

    Pizza

ha! true again. I don't think I'll try again. Final conclusion-- get the large. It is irrelevant whether or not it's cheaper. It is bigger, and that is what's important.
  15. Sandy Cheeks is pretty hot. I like her accent.

Dangit, squared the wrong variable in my formula. Try this" But let's do some math. Conan's website says the small is 10" and the large is 14". So total area of the small is 314in^2, and the total area of the large is 615 in^2. So half the small is 157 in^2. Back in my high school and college days I could just about eat a large by myself. But these days I'm older and wiser and I'm also not a great big fat person, so usually 2 out of 8 slices on a large, is enough for me. That's 154 in^2 which is slightly less than half of the small, so the small would be sufficient for 2 people. If you wanted to do 3 slices, you'd get 231 in^2 out of a large, which is more than the 157 in^2 that represents half of a small. Same conclusion though-- get the large and have extra.

    Pizza

Yeah, I've never in my life ordered anything other than a large. You gotta get deep dish, and the whole wheat crust is delicious, it's actually better than the standard white. So it's a thick, substantial pizza pie. But let's do some math. Conan's website says the small is 10" and the large is 14". So total area of the small is 98.5 in^2, and the total area of the large is 138 in^2. So half the small is 49 in^2. Back in my high school and college days I could just about eat a large by myself. But these days I'm older and wiser and I'm also not a great big fat person, so usually 2 out of 8 slices on a large, is enough for me. That's 34.5 in^2 which is less than half of the small, so the small would be sufficient for 2 people. If you wanted to do 3 slices, you'd get 51.8 in^2 out of a large, which is slightly more than the 49 in^2 that represents half of a small. In conclusion, the small is probably okay for two, as long as you are not great big fat people. But seriously, why? Just order the large and make sure you have enough for some leftovers. It's great the next day.
  18. The problem isn't that they talk about Texas all the time. This is what rivals do. We have this thread and a much longer one on the football board that are all about the ags. The problem is that they weirdly post a new thread for every thought that comes into their heads, and then argue with one another over whether all of those threads are necessary. And, of course, they aren't. You'd think one of them would be smart enough to make a "t.u. Departures Thread LOL!" or a "Things going wrong with arrogant t.u. Megathread" and they could all post their relevant insanity to the one thread, and thus avoid at least half of their arguments which consist of nothing more than being angry with one another for starting so many threads about Texas. But they're not smart enough to do that. They just can't help themselves, each of those self-important self-righteous dipshits believes his own thoughts are so profound and unique, it warrants a separate thread, although it's the exact same topic as three dozen other threads. As always, their stupidity and ignorance makes for great entertainment, so I hope they never change. And we all know they won't.
  19. Yeah you could get green chile on the CFS. But that's not it. Their smoked chicken dishes were really good, their tinga relleno was really good, their chorizo-stuffed chicken was really good, their migas were really good, and their chipotle sauce is my all-time favorite and it's saddening that I'll never get to taste it again.
  20. I imagine they'd want to continue the Japanese look/feel of the Shogun story. That's what really brought in a lot of folks. Taipan might be a chronological "sequel" but it's not really a sequel. It's an unconnected story and I don't think the general public would really follow it if they called it "Shogun 2: Now in Hong Kong! (and 250 years later)" That said, I'd love for someone make a Taipan series with the same level of thought, effort, and production as Shogun. And a new Noble House miniseries would kill it, too.
  21. And here I was thinking I couldn't possibly hate you any more. Just kidding, you've been an excellent guest. Hope you stick around.

    Mexican

Tinga chile relleno with chipotle sauce was fantastic. Smoked chicken enchiladas and chorizo stuffed chicken were great too. Their standard Tex-Mex cheese enchiladas, not so much. Anyway, it was an Austin icon for decades despite its late-season slide in quality and it'll be missed.
