  4. Here in the US, the general public won't touch the stuff after October 31st. So brewers have started releasing it earlier and earlier to expand the sales window. I used to feel the same way as you, but now I'm just delighted we can get more great beer, earlier in the summer, than before.
  5. Well there are salads, and then there are salads.
  6. Salad is what food eats.
  7. Wish that asshole had been caught in the middle of the ensuing dogfights, and mangled.
  8. Ha, just noticed Bee Cave. I mean, of course!
  9. Nothing at my house. Zero inches since the second week of July. A few lucky souls but in general, the Austin FF is doing work now. Past 2 weeks:
  10. No thanks, I insist on buying all my yachts new, and I'd certainly never settle for anything under 150m.

  12. Let's play a game-- which is College Station, and which is Soviet Czechoslovakia?
  13. Man I think you're underestimating what demand has driven prices to, even for the shittiest of old Broncos. Here's the closest shitty one I could find, that's anywhere near your price range. $7,900 from a private seller in Houston. He says it "runs good" but does not mention A/C. The odometer is broken. https://houston.craigslist.org/ctd/d/houston-1995-ford-bronco/7872314004.html
  14. Yeah well I mean, I expect high heat in Central Texas in the summer. The only times I ever get pissed off are when it's record-heat, like, 2011 levels of heat. That summer we had 90 days of 100 or more. That's rageworthy. Normal summer in Austin is, well, normal summer in Austin.
  15. Eh, they clearly aren't willing to pay ENOUGH or it would already be done. The playoff slots vs. 9 game conference schedule is a chicken and egg thing. But enough money from ESPN would end that problem. If I were the SEC, I'd be asking for ESPN to make the SEC contract match the sum total of all of the B1G's contracts on a per school basis, and I'd also require escalators to keep the SEC even or ahead of the B1G.
  16. ESPN is going to have to be willing to pay for it. What this tells me is that right now, ESPN isn't willing to pay, or more to the point, isn't willing to pay enough, to make it seem worthwhile to the SEC.
  17. Still no 100s at my house so far this year, though it was probably 99.499999999 a few days ago. The 10 day currently stays clear of it as well, and at that point, we're getting to where it becomes a lot less likely to happen with each passing day. Got nothing to complain about as far as summer temps this year.
  18. Sounds pretty much exactly like the old Burnet Road Dive Crawl we used to do from Buddy's Place to Ginny's Lil Longhorn, Poodle Dog, and Lala's. Finally we realized we could just take the #3 bus and skip all the grand theft auto and murdering.
  19. ERRONEOUS!! And I mean it's not logic, it's opinion. As much as i like Empire, I still prefer Star Wars. It's my favorite movie of all time. So 1977 is still my year. Feel free to choose 1980 if you so desire.
  20. Oh yeah smells awesome. A few secrets to keeping them whole and nice throughout the process. Usually, when they're falling apart, it means they're overcooked. Which is fine if you're chopping it to go into a sauce or on top of a hamburger or something like that. But if you want to make whole chile relleno, then they mustn't be overcooked. So to start, they can't be over-roasted in the first place. We went down to Central Market and were waiting as one of the dudes was roasting them, and when they were charred just enough, that's when we asked him to stop roasting them, and dumped them into our box. We've learned our lesson in the past, when they were over-roasted, and fell apart at home. Second secret, once you get home, get them into a cold water bath so they don't keep cooking. We rinsed them in cold water and filled up the bag they were in, and even changed out the water once after the chiles had warmed it up significantly. Sitting in the water also helps the skin come off pretty easily. This batch had almost zero stubborn patches. Leaving a little char is fine, too, you just don't want too much of that chewy plasticky skin remaining. And finally, when you slit them, you need to make the smallest incision you can at the top, and then slide the knife inside and cut that "seed pod" bit, or whatever it's called, at the top. That allows you to get the pithy chunk, plus most of the seeds, out without mangling the chile pepper. When you do it right, you're able to just pop that top bit out, with the slit being just barely more than the width of the blade. And then after you pop that bit out, you can rinse out the rest of the seeds (or leave some in if you like). At that point you might need to enlarge the slit further in order to stuff it, which is much better than having a huge gash down the side and needing to stitch it back together with a bunch of toothpicks.
  21. Gotta have OG Star Wars so for better or worse, 1977 is my year. The most memorable of that year: Star Wars Close Encounters A Bridge Too Far Saturday Night Fever Eraserhead Smokey and the Bandit Annie Hall The Spy Who Loved Me Slap Shot Airport '77 The Kentucky Fried Movie
  22. Oh, wah, my life was so hard, flying for free all over the world, including Hawaii...
  23. Predictable snub? Seems like the preseason polls have been pretty fucking overly friendly to the ags in recent years.
