  1. My mom grew up on a farm south of St. Cloud so this hits close to (her) home. Homercles: likely but overpasses and bridges can flash freeze as it gets below 28 or so.
  2. I’m genuinely concerned about PhD. Anyone know him IRL or otherwise have contact with him? Hagbard Celine? I remember you mentioned him in our conversations.
  3. Agreed, Sushi. Lots of mutual respect. Also, after the game, Sanders and Hubbard waited patiently for Sam to finish his post-game interview in order to congratulate him. I was very impressed by that.
  4. Just saw this. I’m in shock. I’d suspect I’m one of many who saw Jevan as being the heir apparent to Vince. Colt had other ideas. Jevan took it gracefully and played well when given the opportunity. It just wasn’t meant to be for him at Texas. Tragic. And horrifying. *If* it’s suicide just all the more upsetting. My son had a good friend take his own life earlier this summer. All-American boy. Smart, attractive, talented, athletic and kind to everyone he met. He appeared to have had a good grasp of what he wanted in life and was on track to accomplish it. The kid every parent would love to claim. Something told him life would be easier on the other side. We’re still getting over it. We never will completely. Rest well, young Jevan. I pray you are in a good place and at peace. Hook ‘em.
  5. That State Final against SA MacArthur was transcendent. Have a friend who was a coordinator for Mac. Said they only had two days to prepare due to the other finalist being disqualified and no practice time but it didn’t matter. Ced brutalized them. Just tragic. Waaaay too young. Sincere prayers for the Benson family, his daughter, the family of his passenger and all who knew them. Rest well, 32. Thanks for the good times and memories. Hook ‘em.
  6. C’mon, guys. It’s obviously Leo Kottke. Great shot, DougO. Love the power and action of that angle.

Also, please be upstanding for the Mayor of Simpleton. Just a brilliant song from hook to structure to lyrics to harmonies and that outrageous bass line. All that and I’m still in love with that model/actress. So Audrey Hepburn-esque...

As a Matthew Sweet fanboi “100% Fun” and “Girlfriend” are easily album numbers 1 & 2 but this is the song that gets my juices flowing. Just a raw visceral jam.
  9. Favorite thread of all time. That’s saying a lot. I’m not sure I’ve posted in it since TOS but Sledge is visiting and wanted to say hello:
  10. Girl at Whataburger commented on my Taylor t-shirt. Said her dad was a guitarist. I actually said that I had too many guitars. WTF? I must be getting senile. You’ll see in a few days that I don’t really believe that. Not really NGD. More like OGD. But in a most excellent fashion. Soon...
  11. If it belonged to Steve Scruggs, Earl’s youngest son, you can burn it all with hell fire. He killed his wife, a high school friend and crush of mine, in the infamous murder-suicide. Liz Kissling was an adorable sweetheart. She deserved way better than that. Every time I hear anything from or about Flatt and Scruggs I can see Liz in her UT sweatshirt in chemistry class. Heartbreaking.
  12. This brought a snort. So fucking spot on.
  13. That first one is really soothing. Another for my Dreamville mix. Gracias.

    The Cars

I’d never seen this before. Live in Germany in ‘79. What a performance. Ocasek’s frenetic rhythm juxtaposed against Orr’s smooth delivery is amazing. And what I’d give for an iso of Easton doing Easton things here.

    The Cars

Still the benchmark for me all these years later. Easton’s technical precision is exceeded only by his innate ability to craft a catchy hook. Or the other way around. I still haven’t decided.
  16. Damn, CHIEF, sounds like your dad was the kind of man the world needs more of, not less of. My prayers to you, your family, and all those affected by his passing.
  17. Haha, yeah. But I thought it was a nice gesture on the part of the Chiefs.
