  1. Looks as slippery as when Al Davis would water down the Oakland-Alameda Mausoleum.
  2. So this is the chick that yells, "Slime!" on the Nickelodeon Super Bowl broadcast?
  3. Gotta be honest, that's a pretty good for a license plate.
  4. BTW, here's that 'beat writer' in the flesh. You can hear the cheeseburger wrappers rustling on the floorboard:
  5. SEC would be acquiring the FSU brand (and probably monopolizing the 3rd biggest state). For the B1G, FSU academically is a very, very tough sell, similar to an OU. But if they do take FSU, there is zero need for Miami. Too many better choices for a valuable slot. What exactly is an example of 'Outside the box' (especially if that box is cardboard?)
  6. Scattershooting: Miami may be vastly overrated by the expansion crowd. Add nothing to the SEC, FSU and Florida are enough for the state. Potentially useful to the B1G for getting into Florida, and while not AAU, their academics standing might be acceptable for a B1G exception (like ND). But a relatively small private vs the typical large public flagships of the B1G. Doubt it would be a lure for ND. Probably the best they can end up with is in a leftover conference from the ACC/B12/Pac remains. Stanford poses a lot but in the end I doubt they'll turn down a lifeline to remain in a power conference. Though it would be delicious to see them left behind after they initially snubbed our Pac candidacy in SWC days. I don't think it is out of the realm of possibility for the SEC to make a westward move of OR, WA, ASU, and 1 more. Not expecting it, but on the table before this all ends. Still would be shocked if UCLeAve and USCUlater intend to be a lonely western island for the B1G and all the related travel issues. That said, it's a lot less of a travel issue for a Pac time zone team to fly home from the east than a central team to fly home from the west coach. So maybe not as big a burden as it would have been for us to join the Pac. Relegation is not a serious consideration by any conference, and will never be. What you'll see at the B1G welcoming party for USC:
  7. Beat writer for whom? Pretty sure he's just another internet wanker, he's had enough big misses before to earn the nickname "The Dude of Minnesota."
  8. Besides the city connect abominations, another reason Manfred belongs in jail is that terrible Beth Mowins is calling the Cubs-Red Sox game on MLBNet. Jessica Mendoza is good, Beth Mowins is excruciating.
  9. How many schools does it take to dissolve the ACC? Because that's how you get out of the GOR, yes? If it is true that ND is the next focus of the B1G, ND saves a boatload of money if they join after the ACC dissolves. So I would think that ND is going to lobby the B1G to take 4 ACC schools (probably UVA, UNC, Duke, and GT, long time targets of Jim Delaney. Perhaps a Miami or maybe Syracuse to get into the 3rd or 4th most populous states, but not sure how much state markets matter compared to several years ago and the BTN/cable channel model.) Those 5 likely lobby their brothers of VT, NC St, along with Clemson and FSU to approach the SEC (if for some reason they haven't put out feelers already.) SEC will respond if the B1G raids the southeast, because this is the end game and the door to separating from the G5 and demoted P5's. That's 9 votes out of 15. Majority dissolves? A lot harder to make the numbers work if higher are required, even with the further TV dollar boost if they reform into a P2 (or P3) and break away from the NCAA into a semi-pro league. ND's Jack Swarbrick said a couple of months ago that he foresaw further schools moving soon (wouldn't name them) and ultimately a few power conferences breaking away from the NCAA. He said the later would probably be in the 2030's, but that date could also have been some political butt covering since that's when the ACC GOR ends. Just like OU and us are always saying we intend to remain in the B12 until our GOR runs out. We'll see. Anyway, if the ACC dissolves and the SEC reaches 20 and the B1G 21, I'd expect Wash, Oregon, and Stanford to complete them at 24. NorCal is the nation's 5th largest urban agglomeration (after NYC, LA, DC/Balt, and Chicago-passed in the last year by DC/Balt), but you don't need 2 schools to serve it. Hard to see the SEC going to 24 unless ESPN makes it worth it. You could argue there's value in expanding the footprint nationwide, so maybe 4 of ASU, Cal, Utah, Colo, or even Syracuse (don't think a 3rd team in Florida adds much to ESPN as compared to new states.) But my guess is that the SEC stops at 20. OCD folks may not like it, but a B1G-SEC league doesn't have to have equal numbers like an AFC-NFC does. And it probably wouldn't matter because I expect Congressional pressure will prevent a breakaway from leaving behind a P5 leftovers super conference that lobbies to be included in the breakaway. The Poor But Proud conference probably makes it in, but with separate and inferior TV contracts. Gives the B1G and SEC non-conf cannon fodder (in theory) if the breakaway has such major governing changes that playing G5 is no longer a real option. Best for a complete separation from the G5. 3 P5's of 70-ish schools could have an interesting playoff setup. B1G conf championship in the Rose, SEC in the Sugar, and Poor But Proud in the Orange, all on New Years. Winners get byes while the losers play the winners of 3 wildcard qualifying bowls on campuses, and 4 more wildcard q bowl winners square off. Gives you 10 bowls that matter for the holiday season. Every playoff team ends up playing during the conf champ/bowls round, then you have a 13-team playoff (but really 20.) Lots of games, but lots of money making. Or if just the B1G and SEC manage to pull away, you get a similar 2 conf champs bowls and 6 wildcard qualifying bowls and a 10-team playoff (but really 16.) Or simplify to just the 2 conf champ bowls, 4 wildcard qualifying bowls and a 6-team playoff (but really 12.) Or a million other ways to do it. I'm getting way ahead of things, the ACC still may survive without defections into the 2030's. But I wouldn't bet on that.
  10. Long, quiet ride back to Harlingen.
  11. Statement from the Back2Pac10.4.now:
  12. Yep, for Astros fans. But let's not talk about Oilers fans in the final years....
  13. I'd be very, very surprised if USC and UCLA joined to be a conference island and the scheduling hell for all the other sports that would be. B1G is likely to add some more out west. Pretty sure the B1G's blueprint is to add 4 more Pac AAU schools, ND, UVA, UNC, and GT. SEC will make a hard counter push for UNC and UVA. Yeah, forget about the last college football playoff proposal. It's dead now, the new one may look quite different. There's a chance the B12, P12, and ACC leftovers can merge into a 'Poor But Proud' 3rd super conference and stay included in the playoffs. No guarantees that B1G and SEC don't completely separate soon, however.
  14. But they still have Schindler's lifts. (And probably make out in them.)
  15. How many baby birds died in the faceplant?
  16. Probably not going to happen, the company's leadership has bailed. They were counting on mostly investment from the Japanese govt and its related rail industries, but they are no longer gung ho about it.
  17. So you're claiming they were baited?
  18. "Bullpens coming in now!" LOL at them running in side by side and mixed, such poseurs, not a single one with a quick tripping move or even a shoulder along the way. That said, Helob is an idiot, overall we got our money's worth there.
  19. Best I can tell, since McTaggart's mic doesn't work past 3 inches, Dusty would rather pitch to this guy: than this guy: because the bases would be loaded after the Judge walk (didn't want to walk in the winner.)
