  1. The cast of this show knew that octopodes was always the Latin (nominative) plural of octopus.
  2. If this was not already in the Surly lexicon, usable either as a compliment or mockery, it should be henceforth IMO.
  3. The affective side of CFB, from recruiting, through development and gameplay, and even into post-career association, strikes me as a major difference wrt the NFL. Teenagers and their parents respond to coaches in ways that 22-YOs frequently do not. The GM over HC model appears to overlook the importance of the distinction much to their detriment. Football Dad is demoted to boss.
  4. It feels like we are one surprise break-out WR away from being a true juggernaut.
  5. I believe aggy's quality loss to ND will be a fantastic springboard for them. As long as it is a margin that can be explained by one play, say 31 points or closer, it will show what championship material has coalesced in the station.
  6. College, namely a 4-year degree from an accredited institution, is required for some career paths and helpful for others. For some, it is an unnecessary and irrecoverable waste of 4 years of one's life and the cause of a serious financial burden. If one does not know what he wants to do in life but is pretty sure he wants it to be at a desk in someone else's employ, a solid degree is a wise starting point. If he does not know at all what he wants, he should just work for a few years and get an idea before spending 6 figures worth of his or someone else's money on something that may be useless. Our society has grown to treat college as de rigeur 13th grade.
  7. Aggy, apart, and greatness: words aptly used together
  8. If/when their season doesn't go as hoped, their org chart is going to make for an entertaining and above-average game of it's-his-fault-not-mine.
  9. No worries: we just kill another conference and move on to the B1G.
  10. I hope they stink up the league and that Nagy 'helps' them hire a low-budget coach that is even worse.
  11. Straight-D chess: leaves room open for game breakers to transfer in later
  12. His $76M payout, if my bev-nap math is not too bad, weighs most of a ton in 100-dollar bills edit 0s were way off -- $100M literally weighs a metric ton
  13. Aggy will always have their June recruiting (second runner-up) championship to remember. Sleeping. Giant.
  14. They hated that he didn't suck up and used his drinking and related habits as their behind-closed-doors way of telling themselves that they "had no choice." That is literally the language they used with one another.
  15. You are right that it was not 84. It might have been 85 though. I think that was right after their MNC. Though of course we did not pull the trigger on Akers until 86.
  16. Mumme started as a Texas HS coach and claimed to have been influenced by LaVell Edwards, who supposedly was offered the UT job in '84, and who retired 4 years after one of his last great quarterbacks graduated, that QB heading to the CFL. Before making UT the theventh different program of his coaching career, he was Saskatchewan Steve. The more you know.
  17. Sad to get a demotion from directional state.
  18. "UT Austin received over 90,000 applications for an estimated admissions offer of 16,000. That means UT’s admissions rate is around 17-18% nowadays." (source utadmissions.com) UT actually 2d behind Vandy at sub 20% now
  19. I doubt Cody Campbell thinks like the haters that fired Leach. CC played four years for the pirate. And the speculation that Ojo won't end up signing seems odd. My understanding is that he has already signed so as to obviate any House Settlement consequences of his deal. I agree with those who believe he is a super-high risk to be locker-room poison, a 5* millionaire either riding the pine or getting humbled playing before ready. The cash is going to run right through Lubbock.
  20. After July 1, it is likely that the pattern of commitments will change. We are, as I understand it, already on the course of stable roster building and NIL$ allocation. Other schools may be making promises and deals which are one-off because of the impending house settlement effect and/or deleterious to stability/morale because of disparities on the team relating to nothing more than timing of signing.
  21. Here's one Mack encouraged recruits to decommit
  22. It was the best of times. It was the worst of times.
  23. Or instead of a 3 point scale from 3 to 5, have something else analogous like a 6 point scale from 6 to 10, or a 23 point scale from 14 to 36.
