  1. Paul Finebaum?
  2. That's the impression I got. I'd try to muddle through something in French and they'd start speaking English. After a day or so, I'd just speak English and everyone seemed fine with that.
  3. This looks significantly better than the last one:
  4. I took two years, too, but that was a long time ago and I haven't used it much since. I can still kind of piece it together if I'm reading it but that's about it. I was surprised at the extent of English while there, though. The French didn't seem bothered by it at all and from what I understand, they used to be. Is that accurate?
  5. Agreed. I didn't realize how big the Louvre was. A single wing is basically an entire museum by itself. Question for you. You've been to France a lot. How much French do you know?
  6. Yeah, my wife (no pics) was telling me that. (She's a full nerd about this. MARCH in historic preservation from UT.) "700 years of smoke from candles leaves its mark." I never saw it before but she did and she said that was the main difference. I just googled this:
  7. DFW is also twice the size of all of Oklahoma but yes, Dallas is one of the moneyed cities in America. When I say Dallas, I mean real Dallas not fucking McKinney or Denton or some shit.
  8. Arkansas is a smallish and poor fan base but the net worth of five families tied to them rivals the GDP of some small countries. (Waltons, Jerry, Tyson, Hunt, and Stephens.) None of them have ever cared about football except Jerry and I learned yesterday that he can't be involved in NIL because he's an NFL owner. That being said, there are a lot of Waltons to your point. They're into G3 at this point with them being in their 30's and 40's. If the new AD and coach went dialing for dollars, all it would take is one. However, not one of them have any ties to Arky, believe it or not. They support the school but could give two fucks about the sports teams. However, to someone else's point, Larry Ellison started bankrolling Michigan because his new wife that no one knew he had.
  9. Completely agree on Notre Dame. Liked it more than the Vatican, actually. I knew the back story because the wife (no pics) has a background in historic architecture and can go full nerd on Notre Dame. To see it, though, was much breathtaking. It predates America by like 500 years and is still a functioning church to this day, despite the fire. While we were there, they were having mass, which made it even better. I took 200 years to build but with the intention that literally a thousand years later, it would still be a church and a monument to god and it very well may last that long:
  10. This and he was almost broke before he made it. He's worth over $400M and almost all of that came from Passion of the Christ.
  11. The WMT supplier money moved in long ago. The wealthy retirees and 2nd home crowd has been since covid. WMT suppliers aren't buying $3M houses in Bentonville.
  12. What's weird is there was always old money here but new money never moved in. Now, though, it's become a 2nd/3rd home spot or a landing spot for wealthy retirees. Central Bentonville's entry point is $1M, which I find bizarre. Even just 10 years ago, you could live there, make decent money, and live fairly cheap. Now with Central Bentonville at $600/SF, that ship long sailed. Tear downs are like $800K. None of these people give two shits about Arky athletics, though. They're all from somewhere else.
  13. Yeah, I meant to say basketball. John Tyson never gave any money until Cal, who he's friends with or something. Maybe the AD and the new coach will get the whales to whale but they've never done that in the past.
  14. Did not know that. I always wondered why he wasn't involved. If they finish the season anywhere close to respectable, they'll hire Petrino because it'll be cheap and the fans love him because he won 10 games there literally 15 years ago.
  15. Business school is on par with any of the other Big States in the region except that it's a feeder to WMT, Tyson, Hunt, and all of the various suppliers. As a result, you can get really good internships that lead directly to what you're doing. Half of Arky is from out of state and half of those are from Texas. Ton of Texas move ins as well. You are also correct about no out of state tuition if you hit some easy to hit metrics. The economy of Fayetteville depends on getting as many kids as humanly possible. With the waiver, they're generally cheaper than the other comparable schools in the region. Dog on the state of Arkansas all you want. It hits all of the stereotypes. The two counties in the Northwest part of the state are awesome, though. Ton of money there now to the point it's as expensive or more than a lot of big cities.
  16. Yeah, college sports. Their name is on the business school but not since Bud Walton has any of them cared about college sports or Arky in particular.
  17. If Hugh Freeze can get hired after using the school phone to line up whores, anyone can get hired. Hell, Sark's background isn't great. Petrino can't get hired as a HC because he sucks at being a head coach.
  18. Yeah, I meant to type basketball but went brain dead. John Tyson and Cal are tight. Tysons don't care about football for whatever reason.
  19. The Waltons are completely disinterested in sports and the Tysons care about track and (now) football. Jerry has always chipped in for coach buyouts but seems disengaged from the NIL game. Not sure why.
  20. Marine veterans should have guns. Obviously, right?
  21. That's basically it and Arkansas isn't serious about football in regards to NIL. Their money goes to basketball and baseball and for some reason, their fans still see themselves as a "football school." Unless they step up their NIL game, that's a complete dead end job. Brutal schedules, no instate talent, hit or miss fan base, etc.
  22. When the shot tracer started, I was like "WTF" until I realized what he was doing then was like "holy shit."
