  1. You couldn’t be more wrong. It was not for Rockefeller and others like him and at that time there weren’t many with anything resembling a nest egg, it was the fucking Great Depression. Know your history. And know that realistic plans I and many advocate to reduce SS benefits would maybe apply to 3-4 surly posters, unless more of you have a retirement income based on over 8-10m in invested assets. The fact that high wage earners and families with some modest wealth think the cuts needed now would go against them is what’s funny. The only way that happens (we all lose or have steep cuts to our benefits) is if we keep arguing against reasonable cuts for those that truly don’t need it (i.e. it’s a rounding error) and increase tax revenue.

    Getting old sucks

There are a number of supplements too that can help. Deep dive into it - legit research - vit D (like 90% of us have a deficiency and it has remarkable neuroprotective qualities), and others. None will cure but along with all the other stuff they could slow it down. I take half a dozen if you count omega-3, D and B. There are some obscure ones too I found recovering from some neurological injuries from Covid - TUDCA and alpha lipoic acid that have significant anti-inflammatory, oxidative relief properties and other neuroprotective qualities with respect to degenerative neurological conditions. Give them a look. Anyway, Godspeed to you my friend. I wish you longer health span than you could ever expect under these circumstances.
  3. it was never primarily intended to provide retirement income to those who don’t need it.
  4. Highly doubt the cuts I would propose would impact you. Eliminate the cap on SS tax would impact many though.
  5. I hear what you’re saying but I can’t wish this shit on anyone.
  6. It’s one of the primary early stage objectives of authoritarianism so be careful what you wish for there.
  7. I will add all of the lawyer focused and marketed solutions that I’ve seen so far suck though. Redline functions are absolute hot garbage right now - two reasons - redlining even basic documents requires understanding of intense factual scenarios, leverage and more important perceived leverage and lastly the ability to make sound judgment in light of those intense factual and subjective inquiries. Most think redlining is like coding, it’s not, redlining documents, is more like arguing with your husband or wife than it is creating software code or rummaging through medical symptoms in aid of a differential diagnosis. i don’t know how much time is needed for AI to develop that skill or if it ever will but from an output/results perspective it’s no where close.
  8. I used my own instance of chatGPT to help with an internal investigation in a workplace sexual harassment claim a few weeks back. I de-identified all parties, fed the witness statements and management reports into AI, asked for interview questions for the accused, recommendations that then formed the basis of an AI generated firm memo, a client memo, notice of termination, and email updates to the victim and witnesses. now the most important part is I knew what the outcome should be but with that expertise AI saved me 4 or so hours and the client 4 or so hours and I did not do that crap work I hate (preparing interview questions, memos etc.). All drafts were reworked with AI 4-5 times and then human revisions at least twice. Factual inaccuracies had to be removed and reworked but in the end we had an 8-10 hour project reduced to 4-6 hours and I didn’t have to do any of the shit work. in that case it was pretty damn good.
  9. Re kids…. There’s nothing we can really do about the macro events but we can teach them to make AI a tool and not be collateral damage to the AI revolution For me I think the answer is (1) economics and (2) quality of life. economics - don’t be a worker, be an owner. Own assets, income producing assets. I think this is self explanatory. quality of life - go analog where you can. Read paper books, do things in nature, talk to humans face to face. there is a third factor which is do not short cut knowledge and skill acquisition. AI helps once you are an expert, AI can help you become an expert but do not let AI be the expert. to be honest, I’m one for three on this and I’ve got another one that may understand the economics part but no way the analog part. but once you master these two then AI can remain a tool to help you accomplish both instead of it becoming your disease. I think those of us in our late 40s and 50s have a golden opportunity if we can use AI as a tool. The kids have a different challenge - acquiring native knowledge and skills while using AI as a tool instead of relying on AI as the expert itself. Both are opportunities.
  10. Congrats you saved something like .00000000000001% of the deficit. But the performative part is 💯 for those who can’t do math.
  11. Entitlements and defense. Don’t be dense, there is NO way out of this without increasing revenue and cutting defense. None whatsoever.
  12. Ok, let’s phase out SS benefits entirely for the wealthy. There … cut entitlements, cut defense smartly (war is changing we can spend less and more strategically and still remain the strongman), raise taxes on the wealthy, remove the SS cap, etc etc. all of the above. any attempt to cut expenses as the way out of this simply won’t work. It especially won’t work if defense isn’t on the chopping block. raise revenue, cut the largest two budget categories, and do so in a way that doesn’t leave the poorest who need entitlements the most hungry and destitute. math isn’t red or blue, it’s just facts.
  13. doesn't sound like a red team blue team issue. i hear you, but the right answer is raise taxes significantly, cut defense spending. better get all your money into equities, it will be the only inflation protection available. value of cash will erode while you watch.
  14. Raise taxes (LTCG, ordinary income, dividends, etc), eliminate the SS cap and stop looting programs for the wealthy. Get defense spending in line, strategic but not bloated. Problem solved.
  15. So I skipped the risqué photos and went to chatGPT 4.0 and asked it to build me a stock watch list, with relevant news, performance fundamentals and technical analysis with buy hold sell advice based on my investment thesis. I spent much of the weekend deep diving into my investment thesis, locating stocks, understanding the various companies business and performance and on and on. I discovered several mistakes, not shocking, but the funny part was I asked it to prepare reports, organize the information, and even automate a weekly update and summary for a Monday morning 15 min read. It said it was working on it, and when I would ask for an update the response was I’m working on it, it’s taking time to build this complex tool and that I’m awesome, super smart and building something spectacular that some companies hire teams to do. It would tell me things like it’s almost done just checking for consistency blah blah blah. Then it would say it needs 6 more hours, 24 more hours, 48 hours. The bitch ghosted me. so now I know it can be sloppy with facts, it can flat out lie and use flattery to cover it up, it will refuse to do something without telling me it is refusing to do it, what else…? Kinda human like now that you think about it. for now I use it to gather information give easy recommendations that I then use as a base case and go vet on my own with additional study. Basically it can do what a first year grad employee might be able to do in bite sized chunks. The rest of the research and judgment is up to me. the good news though is that I am still using my analytical skills, maybe even more now in this corner of my world than before.
  16. Who is Gad?
  17. that's what some prior admins would have done. maybe not all.
  18. to be clear I wasn't talking about this message board, I was talking about our elected and appointed officials.
  19. how can anyone think this is how this shit should go, for reals. debate the decision, okay. debate the efficacy of the mission, ok. did it work or not? that's just facts. no we can't have normal discourse, we have a fucking lunch room food fight. can we has real intel people talking at podiums who are just telling the shit that went down and what's next or not next or what can or can't be talked about please. pretty please, with whipped cream on top? for the love of christ, moses and muhammad, this nana nana boo boo shit is fucking dumb.
  20. I hope it's complete and total too even though I wish the agreement with Iran wasn't torn up 8 or 9 years ago. the wish casting is fucked up, makes it really hard to know wtf is going on and breeds the lack of transparency that really doesn't help anyone here.
  21. oh yeah, your dad isn't.
  22. there's at least one advantage to getting a later in life start... btw if I was rolling up the stairs to AF1 talking about her titties would be the least inappropriate thing I would be doing.
  23. yeah what he said, fuck the binary.
