Running / Triathlon Thread
There isn't a 2020 running thread but it doesn't seem high enough volume to create one. We should just rename this one and knock off the 2019 part. Who can renamed a thread? OP, or just the Mods?

2020 Dems: Iowa (how it works and what to look for)
This reeks like BS. Show me some tweets from people manning the hotline complaining about this with timestamps that evening. If there aren't any, I'll go ahead and call this a fabricated story.

Fitbit device advice
I don't think any of them do Blood Pressure, so strike that. I believe all the major brands require you to create an account on their phone app which is also an account on their web site. Garmin has desktop software for a computer, but the watch still sends the data to the phone app which sends it to the Garmin website. The desktop app pulls the data down from the website. The other major brands are very likely the same way....and for legit reasons. Even if you create a new email address to use to create the login to the app, you can't be sure the app isn't looking for the local gmail address and/or phone number and linking with that. If you _really_ wanted to be sure you stay anonymous, you'd need to get a different smartphone with it's own gmail address (and maybe not even a phone number). Even then, if you did a GPS activity that started and ended at your house, their website could probably Dox you. I think most people probably look at it, decide they want the benefits of a fitness watch and just accept that someone could be mining the data. FWIW - I've have a Garmin Vivoactive 3M for running and give it a huge thumbs up.

The 2nd and 3rd place provinces are about where Wuhan was on Jan 23, with just under 900 cases. ( Zhejiang province : 895 ) and ( Guangdong province : 870 ). It took Wuhan 3 days to go from that level to about 4,000 cases. Wuhan went Jan 23: about 900, Jan 24: about 1900, Jan 25: about 2700, Jan 26: about 4000 That seem like a good bench mark to see if China is getting a hold of this. If on Friday afternoon those two provinces are in the 4K range it's not a good sign. On the other hand, the jump from yesterday to today was less than a 1000. A surprisingly low number.... but an encouraging sign

That film on the 1904 marathon is wild. 100F temperature, 1 water stop, wild dogs, rat poison, and the winner doing brandy short on the course.

Weather.com only has projections out until Sat Feb 15th right now. The day before the Austin Marathon they have it 69/51. If 51 is the overnight low heading into race day, it's going to be a scorcher (as far as race weather goes). Accuweather has race day 68/44 That's a few degrees better but still toasty. Doing the Half again this year... I think my days of full marathons are past.

There is so much to like about this and yet the basic plot has such a lazy and stupid premise that it just doesn't work for me...

I'm gonna go ahead and disagree with your take on social media. I think social media is working perfectly. I think it's the US Main Stream Media that is under amplifying it. The reality is there are 56 Million people who are in a forced lock down do to a virus that continues to spread. That's amazing. That's almost 2x the number of people in Texas under lock down. Social Media is now starting to report more and more on food shortages and hunger in the locked down areas ... I don't think this is some 4chan creeps planting fake stories.

I have it on good authority from an essential oils friend that the Turmeric in the Indian diet is going to prevent the spread. They're good.

That map looks nice, but they don't update the data very often. This table and map that someone posted earlier seem to update much more often (Currently showing 500+ more confirmed cases) https://bnonews.com/index.php/2020/01/the-latest-coronavirus-cases/

Interesting, but a 5.0 earthquake 75 miles away not only isn't going to damage a bioweapons facility, it's probably isn't even going to be noticed.

SARS only killed under 800 people...Killing 1-2% of the population is a tad more than that. But yes, it's basically just a nasty flu. Nothing exotic like your brain dissolving or some sci-fi stuff like that. Just a flu that can spread faster than we can treat it.

This is one of those stories where my spidey-sense is telling me there is more to this story. Drug Deal? Blackmail? Robbery? Something else is happening here.

The fear is real and justified, but is based on two critical pieces of information WE DON'T YET KNOW for sure. The virus has an incubation period of upto 14 days. So for upto 14 days you can be infected and not know it yourself. The first key piece that is not yet known (or is not yet being publicly released) is how long you are contagious for those 14 days. The second unknown is how contagious it really is. i.e. how easy is it to transmit. First World medicine can easily this in small numbers. The danger is IF you are contagious for most of the incubation period, and IF it is somewhat easy to transmit, we will can't treat everyone who is going to get it. There aren't enough doctors or hospital beds. How many total hospital beds are there in an area? What's the population of that area? The big tell will be the next few days in the free-press world.

The doc in the Brazos county press conference yesterday said that they would know in about 24 hours if it was confirmed or not...And he said they would release a statement either way. Nothing from the county, A&M, or the CDC. Damn it, I can only hit F5 for so long. Furk. Welp, looks like Baylor's next. maybe OU can get in on this.

Seeing that in multiple places on the web as well in just the last 5 minutes. https://wgntv.com/2020/01/24/1st-case-of-chinese-coronavirus-confirmed-in-chicago/ The Big Question is how many people did she give it to in the airport.

"fancy-schmancy screening" at airports is not going to do JACK SHIT. This thing has a 1.5 to 2 week incubation period. People who have it are going to unknowingly walking right through airports without any symptoms. They might go a week before showing the initial flu symptoms... How many people will they infect in that week? How many people will those people infect before they have symptoms? First-World medical systems are amazing, if they can treat you. The problem is there ISN'T ENOUGH MEDICAL RESOURCES (doctors, beds, respirators, etc) if a mass number of people get sick at the same time. That's what seems to be happening in Wuhan right now. To many sick and not enough hospital capacity.
